1012 BC: A Solar Eclipse occurs at Ugarit from 6:09 to 6:39 PM.


1753: King Louis XV of France disbands the parliament. Some maintain that he caused the French Revolution, which broke out 15 years after his death.


1836: Charles Darwin begins what would become a five year voyage aboard the HMS Beagle.


1899: The first lawn mower is patented!


1945: A victory celebration takes place at Red Square. WWII is over!


A notable birth:


1873: Howard Carter, the archaeologist and Egyptologist responsible for finding King Tutankhamen’s tomb.


A notable death:


1986: Tenzing Norgay, a Tibetan climber; reached the summit of Mount Everest in 1953.
