Punchy Proverbs…Differently Today

It is a truth universally acknowledged that any Punchy in possession of a sum large enough to merit consideration, owes considerable dues to Punchy Murdoch and his son, Kirk.

~ a saying of Kirk’s

I believe an explanation is due here. I recently wrote a post about the Punchies that you may want to visit if you missed it. It explains the Punchies in some detail.

The Punchies.

Kirk is the leader of the Punchies. Now, interestingly enough, the Punchies tend to be quite rebellious in nature—which proves vexing for Kirk. It makes his job as leader more challenging.

Punchy Murdoch is allegedly Kirk’s father, high commander of the Punchies, and the end of all knowledge and wisdom—at least that’s what the Punchies believe. The rebellious Punchies listen to Punchy Murdoch whose #1 command is for them to obey his son, Kirk. Hence, Punchy Murdoch affords Kirk his authority.

Punchy Murdoch has only appeared a very few times, and when he does, Kirk is not present. Punchy Murdoch is said to resemble Kirk strongly except for a long white beard that reaches nearly to his knees. Now you just may draw some specific conclusions from the fact that Punchy Murdoch and Kirk have never been seen together, and that they look similar, but please don’t jump to conclusions!

So, the above saying is Kirk’s way of informing the Punchies that they owe everything to his father, Punchy Murdoch, and to him. Some describe the Punchies as dull. A good description, I think.

I will share one proverb today, for otherwise this professor would feel cheap.

Okay, here it is:

Dealing with illogical people is like trying to swim across the ocean. Eventually you give up and die from exasperation.

I apologize for the irregularity of today’s post. If you have any questions regarding the Punchies, please ask!

you mean they’re logical and ill (mentally) at the same time. Ill + logical = Illogical. See there is such a thing!

I loved the topsy-turvy nature of this post.
    More please!

    • 8 Professor VJ Duke July 2, 2013 at 15:34

There will be! Since I’m topsy-turvy in nature! I’ll talk more about the Punchy Lands tomorrow!

What does it say about humanity that most of us are willing to at least try to deal with illogical people, but not try swimming across the ocean? I guess it’s that we’re not Vulcans or fish…

    • 10 Professor VJ Duke July 2, 2013 at 15:33

Good point, Brian. I didn’t think about that… Maybe I should go for a swim?

  6. 11 Angeline M July 2, 2013 at 05:10

And the ocean is wide and deep.

    • 12 Professor VJ Duke July 2, 2013 at 14:36

      Too wide and deep!

  7. 13 FictionFan July 1, 2013 at 15:39

I’m multilingual. English, Scottish, American, Australian…even the odd word of Canadian, eh?

    • 14 Professor VJ Duke July 2, 2013 at 14:35

      I’m impressed.

  8. 15 FictionFan July 1, 2013 at 15:15

How pleased I am to discover that the leader of the Punchies has been so influenced by dear Ms Austen! Unless…hmm…could it be the other way round??

    • 16 Professor VJ Duke July 1, 2013 at 15:16

:) It could be the other way around… I do think the Punchies are older than the mountains but younger than the stars…something like that anyway.

Did you notice the tags? I told you vettes were better than jags.

      • 17 FictionFan July 1, 2013 at 15:21

 But Americans drive on the wrong side of the road anyway so I guess they’re kinda glad the Corvette is built the wrong way round. I’ll need to google the Cadillac…

      • 18 Professor VJ Duke July 1, 2013 at 15:23

Wrong way around? I though we were the right way around! Did you know that most of my tags are suggested? It’s odd. Very odd.

      • 19 FictionFan July 1, 2013 at 15:25

Gosh, that’d be a good one for a serial killer novel – you could get several bodies in that boot*.

        *(American Transl. – trunk)

      • 20 Professor VJ Duke July 1, 2013 at 15:26

        Boot? That’s amazing.

      • 21 Professor VJ Duke July 1, 2013 at 15:27

Besides, serial killers use acid to destroy the remains of their victims, right?

      • 22 FictionFan July 1, 2013 at 15:29

Only some of them! Otherwise what would all the forensic examiners do?

Who suggests all your tags then? Kirk?

      • 23 Professor VJ Duke July 1, 2013 at 15:34

Good point. I guess some throw them in the boot.

How do you know American and I fail to know English? I had no idea what an ice lolly or boot was a little little ago. (Schwarz talk).

I’m not sure who suggests the tags…I should probably find out…Though most of them are mind!

  9. 24 ladycheetah7 July 1, 2013 at 15:12

I might need to hang that up in my cubicle.

    • 25 Professor VJ Duke July 1, 2013 at 15:13

Definitely do it. It helps. Turns the frustrating humorous!

  10. 26 L. Marie July 1, 2013 at 14:58

How very true!! Exasperation and exhaustion!

    • 27 Professor VJ Duke July 1, 2013 at 15:05

Absolutely. Makes me wonder why I try! :)
