The PL Times, E5

The PL Times
The Official Punchy Lands’ Newspaper
Monday, October 7, 2013
Edition 5

————————————————————————————————————

Section A. Punchy Proverbs:

(1) If one is capable of having a battle of wits with a fool, then he is just like his adversary.

(2) A hero is somebody who does what no one else was willing to do.

(3) Belittling one’s ambitions is employed quite frequently by those who want to see you fail.

““““““““““““

Section B. Something you should know about the professor:

He lost his mind years ago, and hasn’t found it since.

““““““““““““

Section C. What the PL’ers have to say:

(1) I like playin’ tiger…heheha. ~ Daddy Salami

(2) What they don’t realize is that the Punchy Lands is defined by Punchy Murdoch, my illustrious father. ~ Kirk Kirkpatrick

(3) I didn’t mean to hurt him, Magini. I was just done playin’ with the boys. ~ Manly-Man explaining his actions to Mr. Magi

““““““““““““

Section D. Breaking News:

Jazzy Couldren (aka. Manly-Man) has contracted a construction company to build him the tallest tower in the world. Jazzy says it’s for his business.

Critics are questioning the ability of Fat Man Island to remain suspended in the air above England for much longer.

Attila the Hun is raiding Barkoush’s city. This makes filming Les Miz tricky, since Barkoush plays the Bishop.

Section E. Featured Story: A Lawsuit
by J. Freedwoppen

“I done think that it’s really making me doubt the fairness of the court systems. I might have to get crazy,” Jazzy Couldren (aka. Manly-Man) threatened early last morning about the lawsuit.

After Jazzy Couldren’s financial situation improved (he recently became a billionaire), his wife and daughter, Peaches and Billy-Sue, decided to sue him for what he did to them long ago.

“He tied me up and threw me in the bathtub for no reason!” Peaches said.

“And me too!” Billy-Sue agreed.

“I mean,” Peaches continued, “now that he’s come into money…well, it’s only right he pays up a bit.”

But Jazzy isn’t about to budge.

“I’s done worked for my money, and if anybody thinks I’s givin’ it up, they’s wrong.”

I think it’s safe to say that Peaches and Billy-Sue might get something, but it will only be because Jazzy agreed.

Manly-Man is well-loved celebrity in the Punchy Lands; the people are on his side.

Oh, #1 is it for me. However, #3 is quite true is it not? #1 remains my favorite, for many reasons.

I read about the professor’s “mind loss” with great interest. No worries. At least I don’t feel alone! ;-)

Manly has a problem it appears. I’m not quite sure what it is yet though. Perhaps a bit testy in thinking that admitting what he’s done might make it alright? Or? Then again, he IS “manly”, which I suppose could be a problem when “just playing”.

Then there’s the lawsuit. Oy, people wait so long don’t they, before filing?!

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke October 9, 2013 at 02:01

It is definitely true! The professor must admit, #1 is pretty good too.

Absolutely! It’s an interesting problem, I think!

Well, MM is a nice guy, you know. But he can get cranky. (I’d say there’s something mentally wrong with every PL’er. The professor, now, is quite normal, you know.)

Yes! What’s with that do you think?

      • 3 The Dancing Rider October 9, 2013 at 13:19

        Being punchy, of course! ;-)

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke October 9, 2013 at 14:35

        Of course!

  2. 5 L. Marie October 8, 2013 at 13:59

I’m glad we didn’t have to choose between proverbs.
Also, I’m pretty sure Manly Man owes me some money, seeing as how he is a billionaire.

    • 6 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 17:40

Well you could, if you want…

You can ask him if you want. He might be nice about it.

  3. 7 Jennifer October 8, 2013 at 08:28

I’m stuck between the three proverbs, each as good as the other…. I know plenty of people in the third category though.

    • 8 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 13:12

Ah, really? That’s interesting. There does seem to be quite a lot of people like that, sadly.

  4. 9 krugthethinker October 8, 2013 at 04:04

I am always happy to catch up on the PL News, especially when I have been so out of the loop! I am most intrigued by this tower, but my favorite line in this issue is Daddy Salami’s ;)

    • 10 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 13:08

Haha, yes. DS is always saying something…crazy.

  5. 11 Jackie October 8, 2013 at 00:33

Another excellent edition! It is impossible for me to pick a favorite proverb because they are all good. 8-)

    • 12 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 01:55

Thanks so much, Jackie! Very Punchyish this edition too, I think.

      • 13 Jackie October 8, 2013 at 03:00

        Absolutely! Excellent = Punchyish!

      • 14 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 13:07

:D Thank you! What a great professorish thing to say.

  6. 15 Lesley October 7, 2013 at 22:33

I love today’s proverbs. They say, ff you get into a shouting match with a mad man, people can’t tell which one is the mad one.
I must say, Peaches and her daughter do like easy money.

    • 16 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 01:51

Thank you, Lesley! That’s true. Very true.

Yes, don’t they? Part of the professor would have done what MM did!

      • 17 Lesley October 8, 2013 at 02:07

Yes. I would be a little annoyed at those ladies too!

      • 18 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 02:17

We shouldn’t call them ladies, you know. I think they’re too mean.

      • 19 Lesley October 8, 2013 at 02:21

Haha I was trying not to appear mean myself :)

      • 20 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 13:07

Hahe! Well, they deserve it anyway!

      • 21 Lesley October 8, 2013 at 14:10

        Hahahe!

      • 22 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 17:40

  7. 23 sonya solomonovich October 7, 2013 at 18:36

What does Daddy Salami mean by “playin’ tiger?”

    • 24 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 18:51

“Playin’ tiger” is something Salami says right before he attacks someone. It’s kind of brutal and bloody. That’s why I really haven’t talked about it before–or given an example.

      • 25 sonya solomonovich October 7, 2013 at 22:49

        Sounds scary!

      • 26 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 01:52

        It is!

  8. 27 Anja October 7, 2013 at 17:38

The professor cannot lose his mind because I’m in charge of keeping it organized.

    • 28 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 18:49

That’s true! I’d done forgot. Well…where is it, then?

      • 29 Jazzy Couldren October 7, 2013 at 20:04

Hey, is you talkin’ like me?

      • 30 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:41

Just a bit, yes. I’m sorry.

      • 31 Anja October 7, 2013 at 20:34

        In your head silly

      • 32 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:42

My head’s not silly. Now where is it?

      • 33 Anja October 7, 2013 at 21:00

Your mind is quite silly. :) It’s there somewhere. I promise.

      • 34 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 22:01

Ah, thank you. The professor would go insane without you, I fear.

      • 35 Anja October 7, 2013 at 22:03

I am not sure how you got along without me before I helped.

      • 36 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 22:04

Me neither. I probably was close to insanity, though.

      • 37 Anja October 7, 2013 at 22:05

        That explains a lot

      • 38 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 22:06

        I think you’re right.

      • 39 Anja October 7, 2013 at 22:07

Some things are better left in the past, locked away, buried under cement…….

      • 40 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 22:10

        But the professor’s head isn’t cement…

      • 41 Anja October 7, 2013 at 22:12

        -__- awkward…..

      • 42 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 01:50

There is never an awkward moment with the professor.

      • 43 Anja October 8, 2013 at 01:52

        ha you make me laugh

      • 44 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 01:56

But it’s quite true, you know.

  9. 45 technophile9 October 7, 2013 at 15:26

As for the quotes, definitely #2! As for Manly Man… How could he have ‘recently’ become a billionaire? If he wasn’t rich before, how could he have got all that money is such a short space? Perhaps he won the PL lottery. ;)

Also, the tower building thing reminds me of the story of Babylon from the Bible. Just a thought.

    • 46 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 18:49

Aha! No, Jazzy was quite wealthy before. You see, a while back, he changed his name to Manly-Man and entered professional wrestling. When he was finished with that, he opened airports up all over the land. Or something like that. Hope it makes some sense!

It does! You’re right. Goodness. Should I warn him?

      • 47 Jazzy Couldren October 7, 2013 at 19:25

Hey, it’s okay. I’s gonna put a lightening rod on it.

      • 48 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:41

 I hope that will work. What do you think technophile?

      • 49 technophile9 October 8, 2013 at 16:03

I don’t know if it would be a wise idea to tell Manly Man he may be getting a bit arrogant.

      • 50 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 17:43

Ooo, very true. It shouldn’t be done.

  10. 51 ladycheetah7 October 7, 2013 at 14:48

Very hard to choose between #1 & #3.
Excellent proverbs. And for Manly Man, that’s right. I am definitely on his side. I love the fact that he didn’t deny what he did. That is hilarious and at the same tine his wife and daughter had plenty of time to sue and win, albeit he might have had his wages garnished (if that is permitted in the PL. LOL!
    O:-)

    • 52 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 18:46

Definitely #1. You must pick one.

Oh yes, MM wouldn’t deny it, that’s for sure. And I’m glad you’re on his side! Personally, I’m for him too. Jazzy’s a nice guy; I’ve met him.

 I think it might be permitted! And I think you like MM!

      • 53 ladycheetah7 October 7, 2013 at 19:01

MM reminds me of a guy I used to work with. A real guy’s guy you know. As for like, naw. He is just coolio. Oh, I perused the blog and saw the currency is gold, well MM’s wife and kiddo can forget about ever getting paid. :-P

      • 54 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:39

Yes, exactly! Do you mean MM won’t part with his gold?

      • 55 ladycheetah7 October 7, 2013 at 21:44

If gold is worth what the dollar is today they might as well kiss a lawsuit goodbye….baaaahhhhaaaahhhaaaa

      • 56 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 22:04

 Oh no, gold is worth gold–Punchy gold. Quite expensive, I hear.

  11. 57 Hazy October 7, 2013 at 14:43

Section A: (2) Nice! Rings true, in a way. It does sound kinda heroic.

Section B: Perhaps your mind saw my mind along the way? What do you think?

Section C: Does Punch Murdoch want to rule PL too, like Mr. Butterfield, maybe?

Section D: Maybe Attila would agree to a truce? Until the Bishop finishes filming Les MIz, perhaps. Or maybe Attila is mad because he hasn’t a part in Les Miz…

Section E: Well, I do hope he agrees. Being thrown tied up in a bathtub does not sound pleasant at all! I think I’m a little scared of Jazzy…

    • 58 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 18:42

It does! But I do have my doubts about it.

 Definitely! A hazy mind is very close to a professorish mind, don’t you think? (I’m sure Weatherly agrees.)

It’s possible. (Most believe that Murdoch is, in fact, Kirk. They say that Kirk plays the part just to control the Punchies.)

He’s mad. But not about that. Attila is always mad for no reason, I fear. Perhaps we should send Weatherly?

But I think his family deserved it. I’ve met Jazzy on a few occasions. He’s a real nice guy.

      • 59 Hazy October 8, 2013 at 14:49

 Yes, very close! The alikeness is there, Weatherly concurs.

Oh, interesting… Like a double agent! (but not exactly)

Is Atilla mad like bonkers mad? Or perhaps both bonkers mad and plain mad? Perhaps, we should! Weatherly is very good at recon.

Oh, noes. What did his family do?

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 17:42

        Awesome!

        Yes, that sounds about right.

Both definitely! (Or as an assassin.)

Well, they always torture him, I think. At least, that’s what he told me.

      • 61 Hazy October 9, 2013 at 14:16

Weatherly says he’s game for anything.

Oh, poor Jazzy! He does seem like a nice guy, but somehow I’m still a wee bit scared of him…

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke October 9, 2013 at 14:38

        I know what you mean!

  12. 63 Susan P October 7, 2013 at 13:25

“He lost his mind years ago, and hasn’t found it since.” This is news? ;) Frankly, I lost mine years ago and haven’t even noticed a difference. What does this mean?

    • 64 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 14:33

 Haha! I thought it would come as a surprise. For the professor seems quite sane, I think.

Not even noticed a difference? Oh dear! I’m not sure what this means! What does it mean?

      • 65 Susan P October 7, 2013 at 18:45

Is the Professor related to the Doctor?

      • 66 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 18:51

        Doctor who?

      • 67 Susan P October 7, 2013 at 18:52

Exactly. (If we keep this up we might be right up there with Abbot and Costello).

      • 68 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:37

        I’m quite lost, you know.

      • 69 Susan P October 7, 2013 at 19:09

But, you didn’t answer the question.

      • 70 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:40

I’m quite shocked by it, actually.

      • 71 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 19:00

      • 72 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:38

        I’m quite lost, I fear.

      • 73 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 20:46

You’re probably too ageless to remember Abbott & Costello. (Actually so’s Susan and so am I!) But youtube Abbott and Costello Who’s on First…

      • 74 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 22:00

Sadly, the professor is quite aware of them. I’m lost on the doctor thing. Watching Lugosi (and Karloff?) in one of their movies left the professor quite miserable. (I actually saw the premier.) Brendan Fraiser’s much better than their mummy one, anyway.

Don’t make me youtube it! It will ruin my life!!!!

      • 75 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 23:56

Now I’m as confused as you are.

        OK – but you’re missing a comedy classic…

      • 76 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 01:54

Sorry. The professorish mind tends to do that.

I’ve seen it in the past, and it is not! Hear? Is not! I’ll tell you what it is: It’s a dadblame headache for the professor! That’s what it is.

      • 77 Susan P October 7, 2013 at 20:05

I am sorry to hear about Manly-man’s legal woes. Life can be so unfair.

      • 78 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:42

Very true. Especially, when you have a Peaches and Billy-Sue.

      • 79 Susan P October 8, 2013 at 12:08

My husband and I did the Who’s on First for a skit one time at a party. Husband brought down the house. But there you have it, Professor. Who is on first.

      • 80 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 13:13

The professor would have loved to see it! I’m sure you two were better than A&C!

So, do you think the professor is like Dr. Who?

      • 81 Susan P October 8, 2013 at 18:43

Well, you are both mysterious, and have no first name. You time travel.
You meet some kind of aliens that are Not Us. (or are they?)

      • 82 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 19:53

I don’t travel in time, and the professor does have a first name. V stands for something, you know.

      • 83 Susan P October 8, 2013 at 20:46

Now then how can V stand for Something?

      • 84 Professor VJ Duke October 9, 2013 at 01:52

 That was wicked! V doesn’t stand for Something, dadblameit!!!

      • 85 Susan P October 9, 2013 at 11:19

Of course it doesn’t ! That was the whole point.

      • 86 Professor VJ Duke October 9, 2013 at 12:50

Surely, you don’t want to know, do you?

      • 87 Susan P October 9, 2013 at 13:55

I don’t have to know everything. Mystery adds some picante to life.

      • 88 Professor VJ Duke October 9, 2013 at 14:37

The professor wouldn’t tell you–in all probability! :)

      • 89 Susan P October 9, 2013 at 15:26

But of course not. What fun would that be? This way I can make it whatever I wish. Like Veebemeister.

      • 90 Professor VJ Duke October 9, 2013 at 16:39

        You guessed it!

      • 91 Susan P October 9, 2013 at 16:44

        laughing…

      • 92 Professor VJ Duke October 9, 2013 at 16:46

  13. 93 MissTiffany October 7, 2013 at 13:23

On proverb number 2: Does this make me a hero if I offer to clean the bathrooms?

    • 94 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 14:32

Yes! That’s how the professor considers himself a hero. Though, wouldn’t you be a heroine?

      • 95 MissTiffany October 7, 2013 at 14:47

Haha, yes. Technically I would be a heroine. But I just wanted to check, since cleaning the bathrooms is definitely something no one else is willing to do.

      • 96 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 18:43

 Well, you see, if cleaning the bathrooms did not exist, the professor couldn’t call himself a hero–which would hurt his pride. I can’t think of one heroic act that I’ve done… Hunted giant worms?

      • 97 MissTiffany October 7, 2013 at 19:23

The Professor hunted giant worms? Just how giant?

Miss Tiffany thinks listening to a speech by Prince Beef might be considered a heroic act.

      • 98 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:41

Oh yes, I did. Well, I think they were big. They weren’t snakes, you know. Bob and I hunted together, right FEF?

        Should I post one?

      • 99 Susan P October 7, 2013 at 20:06

Hmmm…isn’t the term heroine considered sexist nowadays?

      • 100 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:42

It is? Well, too bad!!!

      • 101 Susan P October 8, 2013 at 12:09

        laughing….

      • 102 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 13:14

        :D

    • 103 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 23:46

Don’t be so modest, C-W-W! It wasn’t just one Giant Worm – no, our dear Professor has quite a history of hunting down these dangerous beasts, Miss T. He’s like the John McClane of Giant Worm Hunters – legendary! (Of course, Bob does a lot of the dangerous stuff…)

      • 104 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 01:52

:D The professor isn’t all that brave, but giant worms are scary…

      • 105 MissTiffany October 8, 2013 at 12:37

Really! Well, then I’m impressed, Professor. those Giant Worms sound rather dreadful.

      • 106 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 13:14

They are! Definitely need a professorish sword for the hunting.

  14. 107 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 12:44

Ooh, old Shnoddy’s on form today – all three of these make sense!! Has he been drinking Sotsiz Tea? No. 2’s the best – makes me think of Darby…

    Sanity is overrated…

I find Manly Man really quite worrying…

I find Manly Man really quite worrying again…

Manly Man’s a billionaire?? Have I mentioned that I find him really quite lovely…?

    • 108 Susan P October 7, 2013 at 13:23

I wonder about the currency exchange, though.

      • 109 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 13:24

Excellent point! Hmm…perhaps I’ll reserve my final opinion of MM1 till I know more…

      • 110 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 14:32

Well, ladies, the PL only deals in gold, silver, and precious gems. None of that paper stuff.

      • 111 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 14:53

A billion in gold and gemstones? Well it’s not quite as attractive as a billion in chocolate would be, but I’m willing to compromise…

      • 112 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 18:47

Wouldn’t a billion in chocolate have significant affects on one’s body? Maybe even death! (I think MM is mad with you, anyway. Weren’t you the one that preferred MM2?)

      • 113 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 18:57

Oh, I’d build a castle with some of it and share the rest with a few close friends…

Oh, you’re so innocent, sweet C-W-W! The Mighty Muscled One is clearly madly in love with me and wildly jealous but trying to hide it because he thinks it would make him look less manly. That’s why he’s so dadblamed rude to me all the time. It’s adorable…

        And I did temporarily prefer MM2, it’s true…but that was before I discovered how rich…er…I mean..wonderful MM1 is.

      • 114 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:38

        The professor?

You wouldn’t be the first…uhh…lady that wanted to marry MM, you know…

      • 115 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 21:07

The Professor would be welcome, but he doesn’t like chocolate. :(

What precisely do you mean by ‘uhh…lady’, dear C-W-W??

      • 116 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 22:03

The “other” side might like chocolate, you know.

Well, you might just be a plain woman for all I know.

      • 117 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 23:59

        The “other” side? Spooky!

 A plain woman?? Did you just call me ‘a plain woman’???? How could you???

      • 118 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 01:55

        Oh yes.

Not at all. FEF is very special. (I’ve found an Austen-ripper partner. :) )

      • 119 Jazzy Couldren October 7, 2013 at 19:24

Hey, Manly don’t love nobody, but his muscles.

      • 120 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:41

        That’s quite true.

    • 121 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 14:31

Now that’s great. I’m sure V. will be somewhat happy about that when I tell him. Darby? Hmm…does he clean bathrooms?

The professor is glad you think so. I always think the PL and the professor are such opposites. The PL is insane; the professor is sane.

 That was quite an interesting evolution there! Now you see why Peaches and Billy-Sue like him again too.

      • 122 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 14:52

He would if he lived with me!

Oh, is that what you think, dear C-W-W? Ah, well… ;)

I do think he owes them a little something after his brutal bathtub treatment – perhaps…a million each?

      • 123 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 18:46

I thought you made Tuppence do it.

Yes. Seriously, I do. Don’t you?

Na. They deserved it. The professor would have done worse.

      • 124 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 19:04

Nobody makes Tuppence do anything she doesn’t want to…

Of course I do, dear Prof – of course I do!

I don’t believe you – you could never behave so ungentlemanly. I think you’re spending too much time with MM1 and the sausage – they’re a bad influence on you…

      • 125 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 20:40

        I would. :)

Hmm…I sense someone laughing the professor to scorn.

        That’s true. The professor is a gentleman–who doesn’t dance!

      • 126 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 21:05

Death wish? There are less painful ways… ;)

Do you? Dadblamed cheek! Who?? You just tell me and I’ll set Tuppence on them…

The Professor will keep his gentlemanly promise to dance the cotillion with FF…or else…

      • 127 Professor VJ Duke October 7, 2013 at 22:03

        The movie?

        I suspect it’s the new-age Lizio…

        I don’t remember that.

      • 128 FictionFan October 7, 2013 at 23:55

        Tuppence has made a movie?

Don’t worry about your poor memory, Prof – I’ll keep reminding you…

(I see MM1 is still in denial – or do you think ‘muscles’ is another of his little terms of endearment for me…like kitty?)

      • 129 Professor VJ Duke October 8, 2013 at 01:53

        Death Wish the movie?

Thank you, FEF. Very kind of you.

(You might be making him crazy; and when he gets crazy…you know.)
