Blatherings: Beasts in the professor’s House

Today, I have two disturbing photos to share with you–nay, three.

The first is some sort of tiger that sits atop the professor’s globe. (Notice that he sits above the U.S.S.R. Interesting, isn’t it?)

DSC00218

Look at those evil eyes!

DSC00216

The funny dadblamery here, is that Mr. Tiger looks like Bob, wouldn’t you say?

DSC00221

And then, lastly, is Bartimaeus.

DSC00217

A convenient place to hang one’s hat. (The sunglasses are his–as is the flower.) It’s said that Bartimaeus holds professorish treasure within.

Anyway, these two beasts help the professor stay sorted.

It’s a hard job; one that I wouldn’t want.

Dadblamery is an excellent word! Bob looks like he knows more than he lets on.

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 14:06

Ah, thank you! It’s great to use and very professorish.

You know, I think you’re right. Sometimes he scares this professor.

  2. 3 The Dancing Rider November 7, 2013 at 22:23

Bob I love! Mr. Tiger has disquieting eyes, Professor! And of course there is treasure in Bartimaeus. That he can hold a hat is one of them! :)

    • 4 Professor VJ Duke November 8, 2013 at 00:05

Bob will be quite happy. Mr. Tiger is either sad or very mean.

      Very true!

  3. 5 Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 7, 2013 at 20:15

I like Mr. Tiger’s eyes, but he does seem sad, possibly hopeful that someone will soon take him from his position as guard over the U.S.S.R.

Bob is adorable. I really like his chesty white patch, it makes him look so official. I wonder how he keeps it looking so prestine?

Is Bart. holding your hat, professor? I like his color choice in flowers. Everyone should have a bit of color on them. His sunglasses would have set his coloring off just right had they been Feisty Red. In the end he looks like a rather cool dude, I’d say.

    • 6 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 20:18

Maybe so! The professor would be sad if he had to guard the U.S.S.R too!

I’m not sure. Maybe he preens it?

Yes, he is! Can’t you picture the professor in a beanie? The professor needs to get Feisty Red Sunglasses–now that’d be cool!

Bart is a cool guy–very Punchyish, you know.

      • 7 Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 7, 2013 at 20:33

As would I. What a duty for him. I do however approve of your globe color choice. :)

        Of course he does!

Well, I’ll try to picture it, professor. I suppose I’m left to picture you how every I’d like, how convenient! :D YES!! Get some they would suit you, then you and Bart could hang around in style together!

He comes off as Punchy, I mean not many would wear a beanie with a flower and blue glasses. I fear, by wearing these three at the same time, that they make him appear a bit shorter than he would like. Don’t tell him that I said that, I wouldn’t want him to worry.

      • 8 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 21:43

        Isn’t it kind of pale?

That would be really nice. How do you picture the professor, btw?

  I think you’ve figured Bart out! He’s a bit Punchy too.

      • 9 Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 8, 2013 at 04:49

I suppose the oceans look a bit pale…

        Ahhh, that’s a tough one to admit to, P.VJ ;) I guess I’ve been picturing you…see, now it’s…hmmmm. Oh boy…

I’m so glad when I get it right! I’m a fan of Bart!

      • 10 Professor VJ Duke November 8, 2013 at 13:05

Like a pirate ocean would look…

 Yes, I suppose you think I’m a ghost.

Awesome! Bart will be so happy.

      • 11 Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 8, 2013 at 13:21

Pirate ocean…now that’s scary! (And extremely cool. Now they have cool accents!)

A ghost? No. Is it possible to have three versions of you? I have a creative mind and it tends to run a bit. :D

      • 12 Professor VJ Duke November 8, 2013 at 13:28

They do! The professor would like to sail with Blackbeard!

Of course! But I suppose I won’t get to know what they are…

      • 13 Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 8, 2013 at 16:38

You should take great care if ever you do find yourself with Mr. Blackbeard. I am happy you didn’t choose Capt. Hook.

Yes, well I’ll admit it would take great courage to go into detail. Sometimes, I see you as a man who teaches wisely and I want to learn more. Then there are moments when you seem a bit like a brother, one who is always so creative, which makes me proud to keep up with your journey here in the PL. Then there are times you are very much like the brilliant bookish and creative boy from high school who always held my attention…

      • 14 Professor VJ Duke November 8, 2013 at 19:47

        Hook’s scarier, I think.

The professor is honored! Such compliments. Thank you. :D

      • 15 Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 8, 2013 at 20:12

I agree, Hook is much scarier!

        :)

      • 16 Professor VJ Duke November 8, 2013 at 20:25

        Absolutely!

  4. 17 Hazy November 7, 2013 at 15:49

Mr. Tiger seems to look… mesmerized… like he’s trying to hypnotize someone (or he is being hypnotized!)

Bob looks like he isn’t too happy to have his picture taken. He seems huggable! (but I’m a bit scared of kitties)

Glad to see Bartimaeus again! He looks cool, as ever. Did he go on a vacation? He and Weatherly could be good friends, don’t you think?

    • 18 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 16:52

I think Bob is angry with Mr. Tiger. Perhaps Bob put him under a spell…

He is! (Why? Weatherly’s sort of like a cat…)

I do think so! Weatherly could teach him how to defend himself! (Bartimaeus is constantly under attack by flies.) I think he was on vacation, yes. He’s relaxed now.

      • 19 Hazy November 10, 2013 at 12:44

Oh, that doesn’t sound improbable… Did Mr. Tiger do something wrong to make Bob put him under a spell?

(But Weatherly is a ninja cat, and he understands hazy minds… mostly. I’m afraid of nearly all animals though! Although I have a dog, but she can be scary too)

Awesome! Weatherly is happy to have a new friend. (Why do flies like to attack Barty?)

      • 20 Professor VJ Duke November 10, 2013 at 19:38

I think Bob would like to sit atop the globe…

(That means he’d probably understand professorish ones too. :) Animals are scary, so the professor understands completely!)

Barty–I love it! Well, I think it’s because he’s sweet.

      • 21 Hazy November 11, 2013 at 15:17

Has he tried sitting up there? If Bob tries to stay as still as Mr. Tiger, I think he can manage it.

 They are, aren’t they? The teeth and claws, I fear.

Maybe Barty should try not to be too sweet… or maybe use some homemade fly repellant. Though Weatherly insists on nunchucking the flies away.

      • 22 Professor VJ Duke November 11, 2013 at 18:30

No, he hasn’t. (Secretly, I don’t think Bob would like it.)

        Yes, that’s it!

 The professor would love to try nunchucking hiself…

      • 23 Hazy November 14, 2013 at 16:34

 Why do you think he wouldn’t like it?

I think you’d be quite good at it! Weatherly is flawless at it now. He doesn’t trust me with it because I always end up hitting myself  Nunchucks and I don’t mix, I’m afraid.

      • 24 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 19:06

Because Bob isn’t the sort of beast to stay put for long.

Oh, I don’t know… The professor would probably be just like Hazy. I’m sure Weatherly is a master, though!

      • 25 Hazy November 17, 2013 at 09:44

        Does Bob get bored easily?

Yes, he is. And Weatherly thinks you have much better coordination than me, so you’ll learn it pretty quickly.

      • 26 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2013 at 15:07

I think he does, yes. He also has an insatiable appetite.

:D Oh, I’m sure Hazy would do just as well as the professor!

      • 27 Hazy December 7, 2013 at 10:39

He probably eats a lot! What’s Bob’s favorite food?

        :D Haha, maybe. Thanks!

      • 28 Professor VJ Duke December 7, 2013 at 20:29

        Bob likes tuna, I think…

  5. 29 Lesley November 7, 2013 at 10:39

Professor, youcallthem beasts, but they hardly look like beasts. I will even go as far as claiming that they are cute :)

    • 30 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 13:02

You’ve got a point, Lesley! But whom would you say is the cutest?

      • 31 Lesley November 12, 2013 at 10:59

        Mr Tiger is the cutest!!

      • 32 Professor VJ Duke November 12, 2013 at 13:19

        He is! (Now Bob’s angry.)

      • 33 Lesley November 12, 2013 at 13:57

Oh I didn’t mean to hurt his feelings :(

      • 34 Professor VJ Duke November 12, 2013 at 14:52

Oh, he’s fine. Bob’s a beast, you know.

      • 35 Lesley November 13, 2013 at 00:17

        I’m glad :)

      • 36 Professor VJ Duke November 13, 2013 at 12:57

  6. 37 ladycheetah7 November 6, 2013 at 23:41

I had a squirrel that would faithfully knock my plant down in the patio. One day as I was climbing the stairs (I live on the second floor) there were two squirrels at the top of the stairs as if I had to give them a secret password. I think I said something to the affect, “are you going to let me pass?” One climbed up the wall and the other scooted on my patio and stretched himself as if he were going to make himself at home.
    :-P

    • 38 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 02:20

 They seem like characters! I hope you caught them. The professor thinks they’d make rather entertaining pets.

  7. 39 Anja November 6, 2013 at 22:53

Awwww I like da kitty. No pictures of your tassies?

    • 40 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 23:05

Oh no, they’re secrets. Only thievers get to see them. :) (I was having a talk the other post or two with Miss Tiffany. And she agreed that the professor was unromantic! :D :D )

      • 41 Anja November 6, 2013 at 23:07

They can’t be too secret if we know about them. (Well you have obviously duped her so she is not seeing correctly)

      • 42 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 23:09

But you don’t know. You think it’s a joke. (Oh no.)

      • 43 Anja November 6, 2013 at 23:13

        I know it’s a joke (oh yes)

      • 44 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 02:19

See? There’s power in that, you know. (Oh, no, no, no.)

      • 45 Anja November 7, 2013 at 02:39

Yes but the power doesn’t mean it’s true.

      • 46 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 13:00

        I’m going to huff!

      • 47 Anja November 7, 2013 at 18:14

        And puff?

      • 48 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 18:44

        But the professor isn’t a wolf…

      • 49 Anja November 7, 2013 at 18:45

        Hmmmm you sure?

      • 50 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 18:45

        Yes…I”m not, am I?

      • 51 Anja November 7, 2013 at 18:48

I don’t know….you were doing all the huffing

      • 52 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 18:50

But no puffing. And remember, wolves don’t own devils and eat dolphins.

      • 53 Anja November 7, 2013 at 18:52

Did you know I am part of the wolf clan?!?!

      • 54 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 18:55

        You are????

      • 55 Anja November 7, 2013 at 18:57

Yes sir!! My Cherokee tribe is the wolf clan.

      • 56 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 19:43

        Now that’s really cool!

      • 57 Anja November 7, 2013 at 22:53

Duh….I know that. I am just that awesome.

      • 58 Professor VJ Duke November 8, 2013 at 00:05

And here the professor is. Sad, unromantic, and vicious.

      • 59 Anja November 8, 2013 at 01:25

Well that is what you pretend to be :)

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke November 8, 2013 at 13:03

Oh dear. Maybe the professor is sweet after all.

      • 61 Anja November 8, 2013 at 17:59

        Very :)

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke November 8, 2013 at 19:50

        :D

  8. 63 sonya solomonovich November 6, 2013 at 21:13

You are so lucky to have so many beasts close at hand. I would love to have a scary looking dog but alas my living arrangements are too small to contain such a beast… but I do have a couple of dolphins! :)

    • 64 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 23:02

Dolphins? Really neat! You must post pics. Are they vicious dolphins?

      • 65 sonya solomonovich November 7, 2013 at 01:41

I think I shall post pics of them! They are very cute, but who knows, maybe their vicious nature lurks beneath the surface…

      • 66 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 02:23

        Or their Swashbuckling one…

      • 67 sonya solomonovich November 7, 2013 at 07:57

        Indeed! :)

      • 68 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 13:02

  9. 69 L. Marie November 6, 2013 at 19:30

Bob is giving the Professor a look (if the Professor is the one who took the photo) that I find more disturbing than any of these photos. It could be because of the tiger sitting on the globe–on top of the world so to speak. That’s Bob’s place. The tiger usurped that place.

    • 70 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 19:37

I did take the photo, yes. Bod does look a bit evil, but–dadblameit–he’d refuse to sit atop the globe!

      • 71 L. Marie November 7, 2013 at 13:47

Perhaps that’s why he’s giving you the look. If he can’t sit there, no one else should!

      • 72 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 14:37

Oh dear! But to move Mr. Tiger could mean death…

  10. 73 Jackie November 6, 2013 at 18:48

Bob is much better looking than Mr. Tiger. Mr. Tiger looks permanently freaked out and not very punchyish. I think you should call him Fraidy Cat. >^..^<

    • 74 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 19:36

Ooo, I suppose you could be right. I suppose the eyes look more sad than mad, don’t they? (Bob is a great guy–besides the short tail, of course.) I love the cat smiley!

      • 75 Jackie November 6, 2013 at 22:32

The eyes remind me of deer caught in the headlight but more fake. It’s freakish but in the most punchalicious way! I think the short tail suits Bob. He looks like a great guy. I’m glad you like my cat smiley. >^..^<

      • 76 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 23:04

Very true, very true. Punchalicious–I love that word! Bob is a great guy. (He looks like a miniature Bobcat at times.) I like it so much, I may steal it!

      • 77 Jackie November 6, 2013 at 23:20

It’s not necessary to steal it – feel free to use it anytime! 8-)

      • 78 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 02:20

        Thanks so much!

  11. 79 Painting Pundit November 6, 2013 at 17:05

Bob looks much sweeter than the freaked out tiger.

    • 80 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 17:16

Bob is a sweet guy. Do you suppose he’s jealous of the tiger?

      • 81 Painting Pundit November 6, 2013 at 17:20

No. I think the tiger is jealous of Bob!

      • 82 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 17:21

        *gulp* What should I do?

      • 83 Painting Pundit November 6, 2013 at 17:24

Nothing. I think Bob can handle it.

      • 84 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 19:32

Haha! You’re right. It might get gruesome.

  12. 85 krugthethinker November 6, 2013 at 17:01

What a ferocious tiger! Perhaps he is Siberian.

    • 86 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 17:15

Maybe so! But shouldn’t he be a bit more white in completion, that is?

  13. 87 weggieboy November 6, 2013 at 15:40

I generally have Andy the Persian cat plopped down by my feet or on top of my computer. His brother Dougy fills in the rest of the time by taking up too much space on my computer desk, generally right where I need to put my arm, hand to use my mouse!

    • 88 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 17:15

Haha! What happens if you try to shoo Dougy away?

  14. 89 Angeline M November 6, 2013 at 15:17

I would watch out for Bob if I were you. Bob and that tiger…they are one.

    • 90 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 17:15

Goodness! Do you think so? Are they coming for the professor?

  15. 91 Susan P November 6, 2013 at 14:20

The tiger looks more bewildered than ferocious. Perhaps the serious and sensitive nature of his position in caring for the Professor has that effect upon him. Is Bartimaeus related to Miss Piggy? I think I see a resemblance. But, I’ve been wrong before.

    Disturbing indeed!

    • 92 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 17:13

That’s horrid! You see, the professor wants–needs–him to look fericoius! What can we do about it? Perhaps the professor is ruining him.

He could be. But you know, the bloke doesn’t answer any of the professor’s many questions. He just sits there.

      And professorish.

      • 93 Susan P November 6, 2013 at 17:47

George said he’s a beautiful cat.

      • 94 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 19:35

That’s very nice of George. The professor truly respects his opinion, since he’s a nice looking cat!

      • 95 Susan P November 6, 2013 at 20:27

George is unhappy with me today. I put Advantage on him for the fleas that he has not got. Every time I see him he is looking at me reproachfully. *sigh*

      • 96 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 22:57

 My cats hate it too. One type I put on them had disastrous consequences. Left the professor wondering if it was worth it.

      • 97 Susan P November 7, 2013 at 00:28

Some of those things are not good for man nor beast. I am very careful. The Advantage does not work at all for the two dogs, so I have a flea repellent that I spray on them and I use the flea comb on them every night to keep them down. I have a light, too, that catches fleas.

      • 98 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 02:21

I think the professor should get light for the flees. Does it work well?

      • 99 Susan P November 7, 2013 at 02:46

It does work. But slower than I like. Basically, the surest way is to cover all of the bases. So I get out the flea comb and some warm water with a drop of dish soap in, and comb them out every night. We try to vacuum at least every other day. We use the light and hope no one tells them to stay away from it. But every time the dogs go out, they bring in more. It’s arduous at best. :D

      • 100 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 13:01

Sounds busy! You see, the professor doesn’t seem to have fleas up here. It must be an epidemic.

      • 101 Susan P November 7, 2013 at 13:20

Florida. Is. Full.Of. Critters. Arthropods, bipeds, Quadrupeds. Arachnids. Birds. Snakes. Mosquitoes. Love Bugs. Ticks. I do not know how the early settlers managed with all of that AND the heat.

      • 102 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 13:27

 It sounds like a vicious wilderness…but you do have Disney World and Universal.

      • 103 Susan P November 7, 2013 at 13:30

Is that supposed to make it better? ;)

      • 104 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2013 at 14:36

        Doesn’t it?

      • 105 Susan P November 8, 2013 at 00:26

Not so much I notice it, why? :D

      • 106 Professor VJ Duke November 8, 2013 at 13:03

 The professor was just thinking–which can get dangerous.

      • 107 Susan P November 8, 2013 at 13:12

If you can keep people from thinking, you can control them. At least for awhile. As in 1984, George Orwell. Thinking can be dangerous.

      • 108 Professor VJ Duke November 8, 2013 at 13:26

Very good point, Susan! Now the professor feels good for thinking!

  16. 109 deanthefish November 6, 2013 at 13:54

Do yourself a great big favor and throw out the worn-to-rags tiger, taxidermy Bob and then you have a much more stunning heirloom to pass down through the generations.

    • 110 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 17:07

 Do that to Bobby? Never! And the tiger is still nice looking, don’t you think so?

      • 111 deanthefish November 6, 2013 at 17:09

        No.

      • 112 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 17:20

        Mr. Fish, you are disagreeable!

Stuffed fish look nice though, don’t you think?

      • 114 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 23:01

I do! (Thanks FEF for helping the professor out. Some fishes!)

        They taste even better… why?

      • 116 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 23:02

You, young man, need a beating. Now I sound like Mr. Magi.

I have a squirrel that sits on top of my computer, but sometimes he gets in my way. He can be quite a distraction.

    • 118 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 17:06

A real one? The professor, you know, has always wanted a real squirrel. (I bet Bob wouldn’t like it, though.)

      • 119 sknicholls November 6, 2013 at 17:10

No. My husband picked it up at a pet store as a doggie toy and thought I might like it, as I am always getting distracted with the words….”Looky, there goes a squirrel!”, while I am trying to write.

      • 120 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 17:21

 The professor understands. Does he (or she) have a name? I’ve yet to name the tiger.

      • 121 sknicholls November 6, 2013 at 17:22

        No. Just the squirrel :)

      • 122 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2013 at 19:31

And you know, I like that. The professor’s is, I suppose, just tiger!
