The Punchy Lands…What is it?

Sometime last week (this professor loses track of time constantly; it’s a professorish trait), dear PLFM xoxosanas90210 asked for some more detail on the PL…

…and the professor shall attempt to give it!

Let’s begin.

Imagine earth.

Now imagine an altered earth. Altered, that is, by the Punchies. (For more info on the Punchies, visit here.)

The Punchies, you see, are responsible for everything strange and “Punchy” that occurs in the PL. They are responsible for the land’s mismatched epochs; they are responsible for the crazy ideas which float about; they are even responsible for Daddy Salami.

But they’re not responsible for PeZ. The Zez is somehow independent.

So, the terrain of the PL is very close to the terrain of earth. There are differences. But, mainly, it’s the same.

Below these waters is Mr. Magi’s cave:

dreamstime_14842047.jpg

I’ve seen Daddy Salami run across this…plain, I suppose, numerous times:

The professor has seen Schwarz attack and try to eat polar bears:

Here’s the professor:

I’ve seen the land of the Punchy Cave (where the Punchies dwell):

dreamstime_12976730

The professor’s camel:

And the professor has even traveled in the Punchy sub:

Now, if the professor has raised any questions, please ask! I fear I usually create more questions than I answer.

(All pics were taken in the PL.)

You’ve ridden in a Punchy sub? How I envy you, Professor.

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke November 19, 2013 at 14:40

It was great fun, if a little unnerving. Next time, I’ll bring you along–if you’d like!

      • 3 bardictale November 19, 2013 at 16:40

Oh, yes, I would! Thank you^^

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke November 19, 2013 at 18:22

No problem! Be nice to have you along.

  2. 5 portergirl November 15, 2013 at 12:27

I do like your camel. I am also very fond of shrubs, I have numerous types in my garden and converse with them regularly. I am most fond of Manly Man. He is an example to us all.

    • 6 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 16:46

Ah, thank you! Bo is his name. :) (But he was very bad.) So, does that mean you’ll talk with the professor, then?

Isn’t he great? MM, you know, stars in MicP Studio productions.

      • 7 Jazzy Couldren November 15, 2013 at 16:49

        Hey, it’s great that you likes Manly. :}

      • 8 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 16:52

Of course the professor likes you.

      • 9 portergirl November 16, 2013 at 14:29

Of course I shall talk with you, Professor. I am very talkative at times. Not when I am hungry, obviously. MM is multi-talented. His performances could bring a tear to a glass eye!

      • 10 Professor VJ Duke November 16, 2013 at 19:57

:D That’s great! He usually makes the professor laugh!

  3. 11 Jackie November 15, 2013 at 09:58

Punchy Lands sounds like a parallel universe! In the book “String Theory For Dummies” chapter 15 mentions 4 levels of parallel universes – Punchy Lands sounds like Level 4:

“Somewhere over the rainbow, there’s a magical land. A Level 4 parallel universe is the strangest place of all, because it would follow fundamentally different mathematical laws of nature than our universe. In short, any universe that physicists can get to work on paper would exist, based on the mathematical democracy principle: Any universe that is mathematically possible has equal possibility of actually existing.”

    • 12 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 16:45

Aha! Thanks for sharing. And I think you’re absolutely right. How neat. The PL is very real. (Isn’t the String Theory vexingly confusing?)

      • 13 Jackie November 15, 2013 at 18:40

My pleasure! Yes, the String Theory is vexingly confusing! But in the most punchilicious way!

      • 14 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 20:48

        Very true!

      • 15 Jackie November 15, 2013 at 20:58

        8-)

      • 16 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 20:58

How do you do that big green face?

      • 17 Jackie November 16, 2013 at 00:40

Like this : mrgreen : but with no spaces. Doing that should make the green smiley

      • 18 Professor VJ Duke November 16, 2013 at 00:40

Many thanks! I always forget, you know. :D

      • 19 Jackie November 16, 2013 at 00:46

It’s ok sometimes I forget too!

      • 20 Professor VJ Duke November 16, 2013 at 00:54

You make the scattered professor feel good!

      • 21 Jackie November 16, 2013 at 01:48

      • 22 Professor VJ Duke November 16, 2013 at 02:46

 Have a great weekend, Jackie!

      • 23 Jackie November 16, 2013 at 02:47

And you do the same! 8-)

      • 24 Professor VJ Duke November 16, 2013 at 02:53

      • 25 Professor VJ Duke November 16, 2013 at 00:40

What do you think it means?

      • 26 Jackie November 16, 2013 at 00:44

I dunno maybe it means the smiley is Eco-friendly? Did you know that when you make a mrgreen smiley on an iPhone it shows up as a frog face! Very strange!

      • 27 Professor VJ Duke November 16, 2013 at 00:53

Haha, maybe. I did not! Well, it means a frog to this professor from now on!

  4. 28 Anja November 14, 2013 at 23:01

    Is the Professor an aquarius?

    • 29 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 23:16

      What is that?

      • 30 Anja November 14, 2013 at 23:18

Well judging by your photo you are a chunk of amethyst (possibly) so it made me think of an aquarius since the birthstone..
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquarius_(astrology)

      • 31 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 23:25

No. I’m most definitely just a professor.

      • 32 Anja November 14, 2013 at 23:27

Everyone has an astrological sign :)

      • 33 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 23:30

        Not the professor.

      • 34 Anja November 14, 2013 at 23:35

Even the professor. I’m an Aquarius

      • 35 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 01:31

        Oh no.

      • 36 Anja November 15, 2013 at 01:41

        Oh yes

      • 37 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 02:00

        Oh no no.

      • 38 Anja November 15, 2013 at 02:02

You just like to disagree with me

      • 39 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 02:03

        Not at all.

      • 40 Anja November 15, 2013 at 02:03

        You proved my point :)

        Nooooo it wasn’t

Two barks and a moo, and then a Huff-Hum.

      • 46 Anja November 15, 2013 at 02:10

Did I ever tell you I was a vet technician? I can fix your barking and moo’ing

      • 47 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 02:13

 But you can’t fix the Huff-Humming.

      • 48 Anja November 15, 2013 at 02:14

Will just turn my ears off to that noise

      • 49 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 02:16

The PL was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I was thinking more along the lines of 17th century England. Btw, nice camel.

    • 61 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 23:08

It’s definitely shocking. (In the city it might look rather bad, though–if you’re in England.)

      Bo wasn’t nice at all.

      • 62 ladycheetah7 November 14, 2013 at 23:18

Oh so the PL is really a ghetto?

      • 63 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 23:26

Depends where you go. Arthur’s capitol looks like a place in the dark ages.

      • 64 ladycheetah7 November 14, 2013 at 23:36

I see. Well then England must be pulled out of the dark ages and evolve into a Punchy Metropolis.

      • 65 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 01:31

But Arthur is so pigheaded about things.

  6. 66 sonya solomonovich November 14, 2013 at 19:57

Does Daddy Salami run majestically like Conan the Barbarian?

    • 67 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 23:08

The professor didn’t know that Conan ran majestically… DS is very fast, but he doesn’t corner well.

      • 68 sonya solomonovich November 15, 2013 at 01:09

Well, Conan does everything majestically, except when he’s drunk… and that landscape seems to lend itself well to majestic running :) Good, I know what to do now in case I’m ever chased by DS :D

      • 69 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 01:38

The professor can’t picture Conan running, but it must be his professorish mind at work!

        Yes, lots of corners!

  7. 70 Painting Pundit November 14, 2013 at 19:42

How big is the Punchy sub? Who is driving it? How many Punchies can ride on it? Is D.S. allowed in the sub? That could be very bad!

    • 71 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 23:07

Well, the Punchy sub is fairly large. Like a mini-van? Kirk is always driving it, and there are 5 seats–one for each Punchy.

DS sometimes tries to command the Punchies and ride the sub, and it is very bad! Kirk and DS warring!

  8. 72 krugthethinker November 14, 2013 at 17:38

The Punchy Lands are very beautiful, even if a bit dangerous! I also want to live in a cave under the sea, but I cannot condone the eating of polar bears!

    • 73 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 19:13

Nor can I! Luckily, Mr. Magi stopped him. (Though, it probably would have ended in Schwarz’s death.)

  9. 74 FictionFan November 14, 2013 at 17:01

I don’t believe my Schwarzy would ever try to eat a cuddly polar bear! Slander! Libel! Calumny!! Jealousy!?!

For some reason the idea of a running sausage is quite appealing though…

    • 75 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 19:12

Oh, the professor isn’t jealous of the fare. If Schwarz wants to eat a bear, the professor won’t steal any of the meat. (Could you come up with one more synonym, please?)

      Appealing?

      • 76 FictionFan November 14, 2013 at 20:19

Treachery! Vexing untruths! Defamation! Slurs! Smears! (is that enough?)

Schwarzy was probably just trying to steal the polar bear’s ice-lolly…

        Don’t you think so? Cute…and amusing…

      • 77 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 23:10

More than the professor could want. I really should have FEF around, then I wouldn’t need a thesaurus.

        Of course, that was it!

        DS cute? Well!

      • 78 FictionFan November 14, 2013 at 23:45

 I think the Professor is laughing FF to scorn again…

        Cute for a sausage, yes…

      • 79 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 01:33

Again? The professor never does such things. Serious he was.

Sausages are cute and people are yummy–what a bad outlook.

      • 80 FictionFan November 15, 2013 at 02:37

Tell that Fishy thing that I am mortally, deeply, totally, profoundly and extremely vexed at being described as a dinosaur. At least, I think I am, but dinosaurs have very small brains so I’m not sure…

      • 81 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 16:42

        The professor’s wishes he was a dinosaur…

      • 82 deanthefish November 14, 2013 at 23:38

In this application “thesaurus” sounds like some species of dinosaur

      • 83 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 01:33

        Maybe it is!

      • 84 deanthefish November 15, 2013 at 17:02

[whisper] then just what did you mean by agreeing with me before? “Maybe it is!” you said.

      • 85 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 20:41

The professor is an agreeable sort of chap.

    • 86 deanthefish November 15, 2013 at 13:05

No , no, no, if in this case Thesaurus is some rare species of dinosaur, you are actually not a dinosaur but something that might replace a dinosaur. The berth is much wider and your options are open. Maybe an intellectual titan?

I thought I was doing you a good turn. Professor tried to compare you to a dusty old book. I restored your animation.

      • 87 FictionFan November 15, 2013 at 15:18

Hmm…intellectual titan, eh? Yes…yes…I rather like that. Very smooth recovery, Mr Fish – I’ll recall my school of attack piranhas…

      • 88 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 16:49

The professor would actually like to be a Spinosaurus.

      • 89 FictionFan November 15, 2013 at 17:04

But then your top hat might not fit…

      • 90 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 20:43

 But I’d be more powerful than T-rex!

      • 91 FictionFan November 15, 2013 at 21:28

        I loved Marc Bolan…

      • 92 Professor VJ Duke November 16, 2013 at 00:22

        Ritchie Blackmore was (is) better.

      • 93 FictionFan November 16, 2013 at 02:00

‘Was’ is arguable, but I have to agree ‘is’ is indisputable, given Bolan’s current status as deceased…

Your taste in music totally kerflummoxes me, o timeless one…

      • 94 Professor VJ Duke November 16, 2013 at 02:47

Blackmore’s solos are difficult, for sure.

Kerflummoxes? Goodness what a word. The professor likes a bunch of things.

    • 95 deanthefish November 15, 2013 at 16:13

      :D Hey, thanks.

      • 96 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 16:50

Well, you may have fooled poor FEF, Mr. Fish, but you’ll never fool this wise professor!

  10. 97 Debbie November 14, 2013 at 15:37

You’ve got a camel?? Oh, count me in as a visitor — I’ve long wanted to ride a camel. Yes, I’ve heard they spit and can be temperamental, but I don’t care. Think of the vantage point one would have, seated high atop a camel. Oh, yeah, that would be great. But, Professor — you’re a bit more green and disjointed than I would have expected.

    • 98 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 19:04

Not this camel. Bo was very fierce and lazy. He was a dadblame beast, for sure!

Oh, I fear the professorish mind makes the professor disjointed at times… But what meaneth thee by green?

  11. 99 Hazy November 14, 2013 at 15:33

The PL looks beautiful! And the professor’s camel looks very relaxed out there. I must include traveling in the Punchy sub in my itinerary should I get the chance to visit the PL.

Around which area is the professor’s new abode in the PL? I bet it has a lovely view.

    • 100 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 19:03

Yes, I fear the brute was too relaxed! The professor must take you and Weatherly someday.

Oh, it’s in the city. Not out and abroad.

      • 101 Hazy November 17, 2013 at 09:39

 Maybe he’s relaxing after a hard day’s work? That would be lovely, professor! Weatherly and I would like that.

The view outside your house’s window is cars and buildings then? Is it a house or some kind of unit in a condominium or apartment?

      • 102 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2013 at 15:06

        Haha, maybe! Great!

Yes, that’s it. I do think it’s an apartment.

  12. 103 xoxosanaz90210 November 14, 2013 at 15:15

Impressive!! I want to visit the PL. Hold on, Schwarz eats polar bears?! No wonder they are endangered on Earth. And I think that underwater plant is the Professor’s camouflage.

    • 104 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 19:01

He tried to eat them. Magi stopped him, though. You mean you don’t think it’s the professor hiself?

      • 105 xoxosanaz90210 November 15, 2013 at 01:17

I think it is the professor in his camouflage, to hide from the deadly sharks.

      • 106 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 01:38

Yes, that’s it exactly! What do you suppose the professor looks like?

      • 107 xoxosanaz90210 November 16, 2013 at 02:32

I don’t know. The Professor has quite a temper, sometimes. I don’t want to offend him with my ignorance….

      • 108 Professor VJ Duke November 16, 2013 at 02:53

The professor? A temper? Never. Go right ahead. The professor won’t mind.

      • 109 xoxosanaz90210 November 16, 2013 at 05:10

Tall. A giant beard, longer than the longest building in the world. A face that changes colour in case of extreme mood changes (once in infinity). Oh and some secretive superpowers, so I have heard.

      • 110 Professor VJ Duke November 16, 2013 at 19:55

 This is it, exactly! What superpowers, though?

      • 111 xoxosanaz90210 November 16, 2013 at 22:46

Well, they are a secret…and the Professor made me take an oath too. Oh well, don’t tell anyone. He can camouflage, as you know. He knows all the tricks to annoy Price Beef…..list goes on.

      • 112 Professor VJ Duke November 17, 2013 at 01:06

 It’s all true. But the professor is sweet, you know.

  13. 113 Angeline M November 14, 2013 at 15:12

I truly like Mr. Magi’s place, and the fields of Daddy Salami. You, my dear professor, are a little more green than I had thought.

    • 114 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 19:00

What do you mean by green? The professor is very curious…

      • 115 Angeline M November 15, 2013 at 01:36

Oh..in reading my comment again I see it can be interpreted a couple of ways
…I just meant the color green. Not as in inexperienced. Heaven, the professor strikes me as very knowledgeable and professorish.

      • 116 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 01:39

 Of course I’m professorish! It was my silly head that messed it up. You were referring to the shrub. (I look better in a suit.)

  14. 117 Susan P November 14, 2013 at 14:22

they are even responsible for Daddy Salami. It’s good that someone is responsible for the endearing rascal – he certainly cannot be depended upon to be responsible for himself. Look at how he got rid of the daycare. And I’m still not settled about his wife.

I wasn’t quite prepared for a gallery of so many disturbing photos. You are a brave man, Professor, sir, to risk life and limb on excursions to the PL.

    • 118 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 15:06

Very true. But Kirk, leader of the Punchies, isn’t much better than DS, is he? But MM told you all about his wife… Don’t you trust Manly?

:D Well, if I may say so the professor tends to be brave from time to time–even if I am a shrub of sorts.

      • 119 Susan P November 14, 2013 at 20:20

It was a telling without any useful information. :)

      • 120 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 23:11

        But what did it tell?

      • 121 Susan P November 15, 2013 at 01:49

Not much, dear Professor, not much.

      • 122 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 02:02

        Isn’t that just perfect? :D

      • 123 Susan P November 15, 2013 at 13:38

Mr. Magi has a beautiful front door. (You lost me at Mr. Magi, I shall dwell on him the rest of the day.)

I can’t imagine seeing DS anywhere else.

Seriously? That is you? I’m going back to the descrpition of Mr. Magi.

Nice camel, I’d like to see your plant of a self have a seat on that camel.

    • 126 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 15:04

That’s interesting, Aud, that you like Mr. Magi.

Maybe by his tree house? You know, he does have one.

Yes, sometimes the professor feels like a shrub.

  That would be remarkable, wouldn’t it? Probably could make a lot of money from such a shot.

      • 127 Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 14, 2013 at 16:45

It shouldn’t be of much interstate, as I’ve mentioned it before, Mr. Scattered.

Well yes, I suppose I had hoped that his tree house was also along this area as well. To you have a picture of it? It must be in shambles.

Like a shrub, I’m not sure how to feel about that. I feel sad for you. You are not yard art, professor.

 (Laughter from you, priceless.) It would be a sight to see, you know!

      • 128 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 19:11

        Did you? Oh dear.

Horrible shambles, and he’s highly protective of it. Won’t let anyone near it.

        No, I’m just a professor.

        It would be scary!

      • 129 Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 14, 2013 at 20:36

        Typical protective red-headed move…

        Just…? Not just.

      • 130 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 23:13

 Red-headed persons are great, I think.

        Only, I think.

      • 131 Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 14, 2013 at 23:37

        ;) Yes, we are.

        Only? Still not quite right.

      • 132 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 01:32

I’m just a dadblame professor, then.

      • 133 Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 15, 2013 at 03:39

As you wish…(tisk tisk tisk), that mouth.

      • 134 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 16:44

        Well, confound it, then!

    Where’s Manly-Man? Where is Ruber’s Catering?

    • 136 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 14:09

You want a pic of MM? I’m sure he’d refuse. Mortimer–ever since he started helping at RC–will not allow any pics of the place. I could only take ‘natural’ ones.

        Hey, I’s got my picture. It’s my avatar. :}

      • 138 Professor VJ Duke November 14, 2013 at 19:13

        Very cute.

      • 139 L. Marie November 15, 2013 at 15:08

        Awww.

      • 140 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2013 at 16:48
