A short conversation:

SALAMI: Hey, Ruber, go get me boots.

RUBER: Go get your own boots, eh? Porpoise.

All the proverbs makes sense! Though I’m partial to (1) and maybe (2)

Why does the professor sometimes wish he could turn to a tree (or rock)? Sounds interesting though. I wonder what it’s like to be a tree.

Mr. Butterfield and Schwarz working together! What kind of factory was he made senior manager of? Ice cream?

    A forum sounds nice. :)

Blue is a neat color! How blue is it? Dark or light?

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke December 7, 2013 at 20:37

It’d be the perfect way to disguise, wouldn’t it?

Yes, an all around sweets factory! Lucky Schwarz!!!

I’m working on it, I think.

It’s darker, but not too dark.

      • 3 Hazy December 8, 2013 at 04:23

Yes it would. Going incognito as a tree! What kind of tree would the professor like to turn into?

Lucky Schwarz indeed! Does he get free sweets? I somehow feel like he is taste-testing the sweets himself. ;D

Nice! I am looking forward to a forum, should you decide to go through with it.

It sounds like a very nice blue desk (I love blue). Is it where the professor’s Mac is placed?

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke December 9, 2013 at 15:02

        A weeping willow. :D

I bet so, too. Probably stealing them more likely as not!

Awesome! (The professor does need moderators and such…)

        It definitely is!

  2. 5 portergirl November 26, 2013 at 13:02

I do hope Manly Man is alright after his fight…

    • 6 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 14:05

I think everything turned out just fine for him.

      • 7 portergirl November 26, 2013 at 14:09

        That is comforting to know.

      • 8 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 17:52

        :D Yes!

      • 9 Jazzy Couldren November 26, 2013 at 16:30

        Hey, I’s always fine. :}

      • 10 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 17:58

        Mostly, that is.

  3. 11 Debbie November 26, 2013 at 00:43

Sorry, but I don’t like your proverbs this time! (Ooh, hope you’re not too offended — I mean no offense, you know!). It’s just that #1 is not necessarily true — plenty of times I’ve played a game in the dark, and it really wasn’t tough. And #2 also strikes me as false. It seems to me the more one sees (understands), the more one wants to understand. Of course, I’m translating “seeing” as “understanding,” which you might not be. And #3 also doesn’t ring true. I rather think hating hate is a good thing, you know; and hating the hateful, while not necessarily kind, isn’t exactly hateful. Just probably deserved. Meanwhile, I love the idea of a blue desk!

    • 12 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 14:02

The professor isn’t offended; just shocked! ;) You know, I don’t write the proverbs, V. Shnodgrate does. Well, then, you must pick the best of the evils.

      Blue is definitely professorish!

  4. 13 Jackie November 26, 2013 at 00:12

#2 proverb for sure! My oh my – is Ruber getting more cheeky?

    • 14 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 14:01

Oh, he does that from time to time, for sure. Keeps DS on his toes.

      • 15 Jackie November 26, 2013 at 14:09

I’ll bet it leads to huge fights.

      • 16 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 17:52

        It sure does!

  5. 17 The Dancing Rider November 25, 2013 at 22:49

It’s proverb #2 today. And it is true some of the time. ;-)

So the Professor wishes he could turn into a tree, or rock? How about an “occasional” chair?! Then you could be something else whenever you weren’t being the chair. :)

Uh-oh. I fear a bit for Ruber (especially since I’m part Ruber as a PL character), being so flip with DS.

Interesting strife in the PL’s. Mortimer’s hiring Schwarz I find intriguing.

I had trouble choosing between blue and purple as my fave color. I love the idea of a blue desk.

    • 18 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 23:24

      You’re right, DR.

 That sounds good. But it would have to be a fireside chair, right?

Ruber has taken him on the occasion, you know.

      Or rather dumb, huh?

It is rather professorish, isn’t it?

      • 19 The Dancing Rider November 25, 2013 at 23:54

Good for Ruber….I don’t feel so bad being associated with him if he can fend for himself from time to time.

A fireside chair would be perfect!

Yes, the blue does seem professorish. :)

      • 20 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 13:59

        He definitely can. (You’re much better overall… ;) )

        Yes, yes.

        :D

  6. 21 Sonya Solomonovich November 25, 2013 at 20:42

The professor has a blue desk? I approve! It’s a very unique color for a desk.

I wonder who won the fight between MM and FH?

And also, I favor proverb 3. Hate is such a hateful emotion. It’s most unhealthy!

    • 22 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 23:18

It is, isn’t it? Very professorish. I like it, too.

Surprisingly, Henry had the last say. I believe MM retreated.

      It is!

  7. 23 MissTiffany November 25, 2013 at 19:56

I’m not sure I agree with proverb number 1. Sometimes it is fun playing in the dark. Number 2, well it’s true – if you’re a cynic. As for number 3…true. Hate is hate, and hating hate makes you no better.

And what would the Professor do if he were a tree?

Manly-Man should be happy he didn’t get any fish. I myself avoid any kind of fish at all costs.

I think a PL Forum or chatroom would be fun. Provided I had time to log on or check in, of course.

Blue is my favorite color. I approve of it as a desk color. I advise accessorizing with red, my second favorite color.

    Have a good week, Professor!

    • 24 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 20:33

Accept hate for Darby, that is. (FEF agrees with me too.)

      Pretend to be a professor?

      Not a fish fan?

It’d be great to have you there, for sure. The professor is banging his head thinking, I fear.

:D Great! But red is better than blue, you know.

      You too, Miss T!

      • 25 FictionFan November 25, 2013 at 22:08

I agree with Shnoddy – hate for Darby is hateful! (Never thought I’d see the day I was agreeing with the old fool rather than the Professor!)

      • 26 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 23:20

Dear me! The professor shouldn’t do that, then. Huff-Hum and a roar. I’m not sure what to do.

      • 27 FictionFan November 26, 2013 at 00:50

Just embrace the Darby-ness within you! You’ll feel better for it…really, you will!

      • 28 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 14:02

        But I don’t think I have any.

      • 29 MissTiffany November 27, 2013 at 18:00

No, no, hate for Darby is certainly not acceptable, unless you have just made a horrible first impression of him and will eventually learn to lose your hate like Lizzio does.

Haha! I’m sure you would make a fine professorish tree or rock.

Nope! I am definitely not a fan of fish. Or anything else that comes out of the water…

I would love to join. Good luck puzzling this one out, Professor. Ah, I would argue that red is only better than blue sometimes.

        Thank you!

      • 30 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 20:31

I think Lizio still secretly hates him.

        Thank you!

The professor isn’t either too much.

        Great, and thanks!

      • 31 MissTiffany November 28, 2013 at 13:31

Only when he leaves his dirty clothes on the bedroom floor, or a whole list of other things husbands do to annoy their wives.

        You’re welcome!

      • 32 Professor VJ Duke November 28, 2013 at 14:20

Wives are too picky, it seems!

  8. 33 bardictale November 25, 2013 at 19:04

So that’s why there was no fish…
Why does the professor want to turn into a tree and not, say, a shrubbery?

    • 34 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 20:31

      Really?

Do you think shrubbery is better?

      • 35 bardictale November 26, 2013 at 04:26

Yup- it goes places. Though grass is best in that regard, I don’t think you want to be steeped on :-)

      • 36 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 14:05

True. Maybe I should just stay the professor!

      • 37 bardictale November 26, 2013 at 19:43

Ah! That would be truly wondrous:-)

      • 38 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 21:00

 I do think I was tricked.

      • 39 bardictale November 26, 2013 at 21:06

Perhaps. Perhaps not. We still have the professor, so all’s well:-)

      • 40 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 21:33

:) Don’t you think the professor is quite normal?

      • 41 bardictale November 26, 2013 at 21:50

I wouldn’t know. I’m not the authority on normal:-)

      • 42 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 01:57

        Well, the professor isn’t either…

      • 43 bardictale November 27, 2013 at 04:52

        So why ask?

      • 44 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 14:02

Well, isn’t the professor wicked at times?

      • 45 bardictale November 27, 2013 at 16:43

Perhaps. I’d say that he’s nutty in a good way.

      • 46 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 20:22

        I like that lots!

  9. 47 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 25, 2013 at 18:43

I suppose #1 is my favorite. (Deep thoughts)

Choose a tree, please. Stones are hard and often cold. Trees breath and have a beauty some miss out on, yet others love to see thrive.

Fight, fight, fight. It seems that the Thanksgiving holiday is bringing out the best in these two this week. ;)

Oh boy! :D :D Tell us all about Nappy and Arty!!

This must be one of your new adventures, seems promising, since you have a lot of chatting going on here already.

Let us spruce it up a bit. Blue seems to be going around.

    • 48 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 20:30

      Too deep, don’t you think?

I think the professor will choose a stone just for that dadblamery!

But they don’t celebrate, since they’re in England.

Well, that’s all that can be said. What do you make of it?

The professor is destroying his brain, thinking about such things…Ah!

      How about red?

      • 49 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 25, 2013 at 22:09

Yeah, for a Monday. He still makes valid points.

I knew you would. It was worth a shot.

        Well then, why the arguing?

        I don’t know. I think I just enjoyed seeing Napoleon’s name.

You know how I feel about red. Nice choice.

      • 50 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 23:21

        I suppose you’re right, Aud!

Not it wasn’t, dadblameit, dadblameit, dadblameit!

I’m not sure. Maybe they did get a turkey! (Wouldn’t you rather a goose to a turkey?)

You must meet him one day.

        The professor loves red too.

      • 51 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 25, 2013 at 23:54

I wonder where his mind has gone?

It sounded good to me. You do that just to spin me don’t you? Looking for a smirk? ( Here’s a small one. )

        I keep hoping I might.

        Yes, I remember. :)

      • 52 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 14:00

        Who, the professor’s?

        I wanted a big smirk.

      • 53 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 26, 2013 at 14:35

Writer of the proverbs, the S man.

        You should try harder.

      • 54 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 17:54

Oh yes, he was a beast this week.

        Growl!

      • 55 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 26, 2013 at 23:23

        Are you growling at me?

      • 56 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 02:00

        *nods emphatically*

      • 57 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 27, 2013 at 03:20

        Well stop.

      • 58 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 13:59

        I shan’t neither!

      • 59 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 27, 2013 at 14:05

        Good ;)

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 14:05

      • 61 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 25, 2013 at 23:56

Oh, and yes to the goose. Sounds perfect.

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 14:01

        Great.

  10. 63 MRS N, the Author November 25, 2013 at 18:34

Loved this and I only have one question…

What kind of tree would the professor like to be?

I’ve always fancied a willow tree as they bend but do not break no matter how strong the elements! ;-)

    • 64 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 18:38

Well, the professor was thinking a pine tree. Should I change it, do you think?

  11. 65 Anja November 25, 2013 at 18:29

Where does one get a blue desk? Did you paint it? And does the color calm you?
Why am I asking so many questions?

    • 66 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 18:37

I’m not sure where I got it, actually. And, no, the professor didn’t paint. Maybe I should paint it red. The color does nothing for me, though I’ve asked it to.

Because you’re trying to sort my mind, of course.

      • 67 Anja November 25, 2013 at 18:39

Not sure I’ve ever seen an adult blue desk. Red is my favorite color however…not sure it would be good for a desk. Colors can be a bit selfish when asked to do things. They are all like “look at me and love me”.

      • 68 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 20:29

 Not professorish colors. The funny thing is that a red desk would suit me nicely.

      • 69 Anja November 25, 2013 at 21:37

I don’t have a desk. :( Art desk but not for any other kind. Art desk is very colorful

      • 70 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 23:18

Well, an art desk counts! Is it pink?

      • 71 Anja November 25, 2013 at 23:24

Pink??? Heavens NO! It use to be white but after using it over and over…it tends to have all my paint colors on it.

      • 72 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 23:25

        Which makes it pink.

      • 73 Anja November 25, 2013 at 23:27

I very rarely use pink……so nope. Why would that make it pink?

      • 74 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 13:57

Just making sure. The professor is glad that it’s not pink.

      • 75 Anja November 26, 2013 at 17:21

        You don’t like pink?
Actually there is nothing pink in my room….not even sure about the house.

      • 76 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 17:59

That’s really good. Now make everything a professorish red. Pink and the professor aren’t friends.

      • 77 Anja November 26, 2013 at 18:00

My favorite color is red but I do not have it everywhere. My house is earthy tones and gets most color from my art and photos on the walls. :) Probably not very professorish.

      • 78 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 20:57

Your art is beautiful. But I still think you should have red walls.

      • 79 Anja November 26, 2013 at 21:53

Thank you but not painting my walls red. That is….a bit morbid feeling to me.

      • 80 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 01:58

        Not professorish?

      • 81 Anja November 27, 2013 at 02:02

Blue desk in a red room? Seems….like the start of a creepy story. :)

      • 82 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 02:09

        Or a professorish one.

      • 83 Anja November 27, 2013 at 02:10

        You’re welcome

      • 84 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 02:13

        For what?

      • 85 Anja November 27, 2013 at 02:14

Felt like the right thing to say.

      • 86 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 13:54

        Well, okay, then.

  12. 87 Susan P November 25, 2013 at 17:49

    #1 seems a bit pessimistic. But I can support # 2 enthusiastically.

Wood like to be a tree? What if someone wants to chop you up and put you into the fireplace? And…it’s not exactly original. I think Treebeard might have a talk with you.

Nice to see Ruber and DS having a little light-hearted fun.

Hear now, what did the King do to deserve that?

Susan doesn’t think she has the time to participate in a forum, (she’s a member of three already and hardly ever goes by to say hello) and she is not a fan of chat rooms. Unless she changes from the blog to the forum.

Is the professor feeling despondent, or is the desk just under the weather?

    • 88 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 18:36

      But what about #3?

Shouldn’t the professor be able to turn into the professor again? When they come to chop me down, I’ll just vanish.

 Ruber didn’t seem to have fun, though…

I think he wouldn’t join some sort of club they were putting together. Wicked of them, wasn’t it?

But a Punchyish forum might be neat… The professor must think.

 No, it’s really blue, interestingly enough.

      • 89 Susan P November 25, 2013 at 23:26

        I feel confused…………………..

      • 90 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 13:57

        Definitely my fault, I fear.

      • 91 Susan P November 26, 2013 at 14:57

Not really. I feel confused a lot.

      • 92 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 17:54

I hope the PL didn’t do this to you.

      • 93 Susan P November 26, 2013 at 20:37

I think that the PL was invented by Al Gore.

      • 94 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 21:02

Are you calling the pro– Never mind. I refuse to know who he is.

      • 95 Susan P November 26, 2013 at 21:09

;) No, I am not comparing the Professor with … him…
I suspect that the Professor has more imagination than ten of — him. It was just the first thing that came into my head. I’m random like that.

      • 96 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 21:33

The professor loves randomness. But I’m not very creative, you know.

      • 97 Susan P November 26, 2013 at 21:39

        Pppppth

      • 98 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 01:56

      • 99 Susan P November 27, 2013 at 02:20

Is that the Professor with his hair standing on end?

      • 100 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 13:57

        That’s my top hat dadblameit!

      • 101 Susan P November 27, 2013 at 14:02

*face palm* I need more coffee – my eyes are playing tricks on me.

      • 102 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 14:05

        *grumbles in a professorish way*

Laws. You sound like my father.

      • 104 Professor VJ Duke November 27, 2013 at 16:16

Oh dear! Did Shnoddy have a bad weekend? He seems particularly grumpy today. I’ll go with no. 3, if I have to choose one…

    Why?

I wonder if Ruber serves salami sandwiches in his cafe?

My Schwarzy with a job in a sweetie factory??? He just gets more irresistable every day…

Chatrooms aren’t my kind of thing, dear C-W-W, but if you do it, I’m sure it would be fun. :)

    • 108 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 18:34

 But we mustn’t tell him. The professor likes that one the best too. :)

      Wouldn’t it be rather neatio?

I don’t think so, but there’s fish sandwiches!

Haha, he’s the manager too. Perhaps you should teach him how to dance?

Thank you! A Punchyish chatroom would be quite nice–you might even like it. The professor is devilishly scheming.

      • 109 FictionFan November 25, 2013 at 22:14

But that would prevent you from running your book-hate conferences… ;)

Depends – it would mean standing outside in the wind and rain, when other people were inside drinking eggnog and mulled wine…

No thanks! (Is he secretly in charge of the government’s plan to prevent obesity?)

Much though I adore my Schwartzy (especially if he brings home free choccy samples), I’d still rather dance with the Professor…

        Devilishly, indeed! Maybe…

      • 110 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 23:23

        I suppose it’s true, O mean one.

The professor likes eggnog, I think.

 He might be. I really thought you’d like the fish, though.

        Whyeth?

The professor is devilish–you’re right. I like that lots, you know.

      • 111 FictionFan November 26, 2013 at 00:55

Me? Mean?? (Don’t tell the Scots…please…)

        FF likes mulled wine.

Fish, yes. Ruber’s fish? Not so much… (Anyway, I’m always worried when eating fish now that it might be Fish Fats or one of his relatives…)

Because Schwartzy may be my chafafah, but he’ll never be my C-W-W!

        Sweetly devilish, though…

      • 112 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 14:04

        They probably know…

I bet you do. It makes sense that you would…

 Poor Mr. Fish will never hear the end of it…

The professor likes that lots, I think. :)

        Not sweetly. Wickedly.

    • 113 deanthefish November 26, 2013 at 01:29

Very unflattering of you my dear eTinker.

      • 114 FictionFan November 26, 2013 at 02:12

Not me! I thought it was very rude of the Professor too, (but also  ), my dear Mr Fats.

(How’s the music for the spacy thingy coming along?)

    • 115 deanthefish November 26, 2013 at 02:30

It’s not. At this time the fish is drowning in other work… ;)

As for the names… don’t call me fish fat and I won’t call you eTinker :D Though I suppose you think I’ve got the disadvantage, hmmm…..

      • 116 FictionFan November 26, 2013 at 02:33

Hmm…sadly I rather like eTinker! But I’ll be nice, Mr Fish. :D

Now get on with your work… ;)

  14. 117 technophile9 November 25, 2013 at 17:13

Interesting. I like Quote 2 the best! As for Section B… it depends on how active you want to be. If you really want to laze around, pick the stone; if you want to have a peaceful, slightly mobile existence, choose the tree.

    • 118 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 18:33

The professorish tree. Sounds nice, doesn’t it?

      • 119 technophile9 November 26, 2013 at 16:37

        Very. ;)

      • 120 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2013 at 17:58

  15. 121 omtatjuan November 25, 2013 at 16:49

I love proverb 2… I see said the blind man.

    • 122 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 18:33

Very true, very true. Isn’t three a jump?

  16. 123 ladycheetah7 November 25, 2013 at 16:43

    #2 is a definite winner.
DS cannot be cured even with shock treatments.
I like the chat room idea but won’t utilize it much as I have more accessibility from my mobile during work hours.

    • 124 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 18:32

I thought you could like that one. It was Shnodgrate’s favorite too.

Exactly right. Maybe you could go and have speaks with him?

I see. What about a forum?

      • 125 ladycheetah7 November 25, 2013 at 18:35

        How would the forum work?

      • 126 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 18:39

The professor is still planning. Any suggestions?

There would have to be mods (and maybe a super mod.)

      • 127 ladycheetah7 November 25, 2013 at 18:47

Depends on how serious or frivolous the issues/topics.

      • 128 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 20:31

Oh, mostly PL topics and writing topics.

  17. 129 L. Marie November 25, 2013 at 15:56

A PF forum would be good.
As for the proverbs, I’m going to go with 2a–a combination of 1 and 2.
I would go for the tree if I were you. You should read the picture book Sylvester and the Magic Pebble by William Steig. You’ll never want to be a rock again.

    • 130 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 18:32

      With a chat room?

      Good choice, definitely.

      Ooo, what happens?

  18. 131 weggieboy November 25, 2013 at 15:30

A busy time in Punchy Land! Manly-Man must learn restraint before he gets no fish at the market!

    • 132 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 18:31

You’re right. Perhaps he needs a spanking.

  19. 133 Angeline M November 25, 2013 at 15:28

DS and Ruber need to go to family counseling, or to the movies.
If the professor has the choice between turning himself into a tree or a rock, I should think a tree is much more professorish.
And I must say I disagree with all the proverbs today. Can’t agree with a one of them.
    Hasta la vista.

    • 134 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 18:31

They do, I agree. But I’m sure DS will never go willingly, you know.

Yes, I suppose so. Very much more professorish. Especially a pine tree.

      Not one? Seriously? You must!

      What does it mean?

      • 135 Angeline M November 25, 2013 at 18:40

It means I’m leaving on vacation and have turned off my brain :)

      • 136 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 20:29

That’s great! Where you off to?

      • 137 Angeline M November 25, 2013 at 22:01

        Mexico. Hasta la vista!

      • 138 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2013 at 23:19

Have a great time, Angeline! And be professorish! ;)
