I’m a week late  I hope the professor had a happy Thanksgiving!

Love the video! The voice master did a great job narrating. Nice script. So much fun! Racial profiling of a whale, notredam/notredame/whatever, story within a story of a story  Well done you guys! Planning more of this, I hope?

I’ve actually never read any of the books, though I’m familiar with the gist of them. I attempted reading Wuthering Heights once, but I never got past the first few pages of chapter 1. I just found it too… weird (for some reason).

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke December 7, 2013 at 20:40

Yes, I did, and thanks for the wishes! (Do you celebrate? Probably not.)

Aw, thanks, Hazy! Yes, Honest Book Blurbs will hopefully be a new category! (If you can think of any classic you’d like to see ripped, just let me know!)

That’s what a lot of people say about it. That’s why the professor isn’t brave enough to read it.

      • 3 Hazy December 8, 2013 at 04:37

No, we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here. It sounds like a fun holiday! Though oddly enough, there was a Thanksgiving sale at a mall here that day.

Did you eat a lot of Thanksgiving meal? A friend of mine said they had stuffed turkey and pumpkin pie. It sounded yummy.

Oh, thanks for the offer! Will definitely let you know if I ever come across such a rippable book.

I’ve been told it was good, but I just can’t see it. I think I was ripping it in my head from the first few pages I laid eyes on it. that’s why I couldn’t get past it.

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke December 9, 2013 at 15:04

That is funny! (The professor doesn’t even like turkey.)

Yes, the professor did. :D It’s so filling!

        Awesome!

 The professor tends to do that with every book, too…

  2. 5 Susan P November 29, 2013 at 16:31

Inception *laughing and snickering* I think you nailed it – even though I do like Wuthering Heights. I

Poor Quasimodo. Is it better than Les Miserables?

I think the whale got a tough break. He needs to tell his own story.

    • 6 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 17:24

Really? I’ve heard it’s pretty bad.

Well, the professor didn’t write the script. I’ve never read Hunchback, but I have read Les Miz. How couldn’t you like Les Miz?

 He does! We should ask him.

      • 7 Susan P November 29, 2013 at 18:52

I like Les Mis in the abridged version. Nuff said?

      • 8 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 21:40

Yes, I think so. MM was a good Val-Johnny.

      • 9 Susan P November 29, 2013 at 22:24

And so he was – a bit smarmy, but nobody’s perfect.

      • 10 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 00:23

        Especially MM.

      • 11 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 04:40

Yes, but you know, when you’re good, you’re good and you might as well flaunt it.

      • 12 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 14:35

        But that’s a bit rude.

      • 13 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 14:37

“It’s only rude if it isn’t true.” – Baby Doll

      • 14 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 14:45

        Who’s baby doll?

      • 15 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 15:04

She was a birman cat, the matriarch of the family for quite a few years.

      • 16 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 21:15

 A lovely name! Sounds like a bright woman.

      • 17 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 21:29

More about her on my blog next week.

      • 18 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 21:48

Great. The professor is looking forward to this.

      • 19 Susan P December 1, 2013 at 22:10

Intended to make it last week, but thought a grateful dog would be in order given it was Thanksgiving.

      • 20 Professor VJ Duke December 2, 2013 at 18:09

Good thought. This week will be just as splendid.

      • 21 Susan P November 29, 2013 at 18:54

What is amazing about Wuthering Heights is that a minister’s daughter who lived out in the middle of nowhere had such insight into human nature. I’m surprised you haven’t seen her wandering around the PL.

      • 22 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 21:40

 I might have! What’s she look like?

      • 23 Susan P November 29, 2013 at 22:26

I think she is a wild child. Just guessing, but…

      • 24 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 00:23

Hmm, the professor would guess so too. And mean.

      • 25 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 04:41

        Mean? She is mean?

      • 26 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 14:35

        Yes, I bet so!

      • 27 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 14:38

No. Bored maybe. Lonely, probably. But mean?

      • 28 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 14:45

Well, I don’t know for sure.

      • 29 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 15:04

        How you gonna find out?

      • 30 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 21:16

Well, where’s she at in the PL?

      • 31 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 21:32

She lives out on the moors in a ramshackle house.

      • 32 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 21:49

Yes, yes, I definitely see this.

      • 33 Susan P December 1, 2013 at 22:10

        Not near the volcanoes.

      • 34 Professor VJ Duke December 2, 2013 at 18:10

        Rats! The professor likes volcanoes.

      • 35 Susan P December 2, 2013 at 19:32

        Ah, well then.

      • 36 Professor VJ Duke December 2, 2013 at 21:37

And I’m not sorry about it.

      • 37 Susan P December 2, 2013 at 22:08

Always stand up for your convictions even if they change every day.

      • 38 Professor VJ Duke December 3, 2013 at 03:37

 The professor’s convictions do not!

      • 39 Susan P December 3, 2013 at 12:59

        What?

      • 40 Professor VJ Duke December 3, 2013 at 19:23

        Well…well…dadblameit!

      • 41 Susan P December 3, 2013 at 20:12

        Aha~!

      • 42 Professor VJ Duke December 3, 2013 at 22:42

        ==:)

      • 43 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 21:33

Wow. You don’t like turkey? What about it don’t you like?

      • 44 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 21:49

It tastes all wrong. Do you know?

      • 45 Susan P December 1, 2013 at 22:11

No, do not know. It’s my Harry’s favorite food. I don’t get it being a favorite, but cooked nicely I won’t turn it down.

      • 46 Professor VJ Duke December 2, 2013 at 18:10

It’s not bad on a smoker.

      • 47 Susan P December 2, 2013 at 19:33

Smoked turkey? Oh yeah. Hereabouts they deep fry them.

      • 48 Professor VJ Duke December 2, 2013 at 21:37

        That sounds very tasty.

      • 49 Susan P December 2, 2013 at 22:09

I guess so…<- is not convinced. That much oil – laws, what do they do with it afterward?

      • 50 Professor VJ Duke December 3, 2013 at 03:38

        Pour it in the ground?

      • 51 Susan P December 3, 2013 at 13:00

I hope not. It might kill the fish in Ruber’s lake.

      • 52 Professor VJ Duke December 3, 2013 at 19:24

Which might be a good thing.

      • 53 Susan P December 3, 2013 at 20:12

        Good point.

      • 54 Professor VJ Duke December 3, 2013 at 22:42

        Yes.

      • 55 Susan P December 4, 2013 at 01:04

        :D

I hope you had a very happy Thanksgiving, Professor

    • 58 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 17:17

I did! How was yours, my dear?

      • 59 eadavisblog November 29, 2013 at 19:45

It was alright. Tiring but pretty good :-) Glad your went well

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 21:46

Did you eat a duck or turkey?

      • 61 eadavisblog November 30, 2013 at 00:02

Turkey as per usual, and yes it was pretty good. What about you?

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 00:25

Oh yes, the professor had a turkey, but I don’t like turkey, you know.

      • 63 eadavisblog November 30, 2013 at 04:50

Lol you are the second person ive heard of that doesn’t like turkey. I personally love turkey. Just too much trouble to make it more than once a year. Haha

      • 64 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 14:35

Am I the first professorish person?

      • 65 eadavisblog November 30, 2013 at 14:57

        Absolutely : -)

      • 66 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 21:14

        :D

  4. 67 Sonya Solomonovich November 28, 2013 at 19:02

Great rippings! I wish you’d ripped Wuthering Heights even more. It truly makes no sense and is one of the most boring books I’ve ever read.

    • 68 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 00:31

      Not for a swashbuckler, then?

  5. 69 Painting Pundit November 28, 2013 at 18:07

Wuthering Heights is summed up perfectly!

    • 70 Professor VJ Duke November 28, 2013 at 18:29

I’ve heard that it’s a bit frustrating, is that right?

      • 71 Sonya Solomonovich November 28, 2013 at 20:40

It’s about this spoiled girl named Catherine who is in love with her adopted brother Heathcliff, which is kind of weird in itself. But then for no apparent reason she marries another guy and of course later she regrets marrying the other guy… but I won’t spoil the ending. Let’s just say it’s very boring and vexing. There are no duels or adventures at all!

      • 72 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 00:33

Yes, kind of gross, I’d say. It sounds like the ending couldn’t possibly be spoiled! It’s already spoiled!

      • 73 Painting Pundit November 29, 2013 at 00:36

        And confusing!

      • 74 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 00:39

Sounds so! And this professor is already confused…

      • 75 Painting Pundit November 29, 2013 at 00:44

Better stay away from it then! Not only was it confusing but also depressing! Good if you want to be depressed! I thought Jane Eyre was too. I don’t get all the hype about the two. But what do I know. I’m just a humble painter!

      • 76 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 00:48

With a great opinion! The professor definitely respects what you have to say. I do think I’ll steer clear. Any recommendations?

      • 77 Painting Pundit November 29, 2013 at 01:07

My local bookshop owner has recommended Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. I bought it but haven’t started it yet. It seems to be rather peculiar. Probably a good one to be acted out by the Salamis.

      • 78 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 17:15

Rather peculiar sounds neat, and you must let me know about if it sounds right for the Salamis!

  6. 79 avinitsky99 November 28, 2013 at 16:57

Couldn’t help commenting. Quite funny! Have a happy Thanksgiving!

    • 80 Professor VJ Duke November 28, 2013 at 18:28

Thank you! Now I’m sure you want to read each book… ;) Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

  7. 81 FictionFan November 28, 2013 at 16:37

 The sales technique may need a little work…

Happy Thanksgiving, Prof and team! You’re one of the things I’m thankful for! :D

    • 82 Professor VJ Duke November 28, 2013 at 18:28

 Wasn’t the best, was it? (Maybe this is the new style of ripios.)

FEF that was such a nice thing to say! The team thanks you wholeheartedly. You’re one of things we’re thankful for!

      • 83 FictionFan November 28, 2013 at 22:05

Ripioing books I don’t care about is a good way to go! ;)

Awww! See? You can’t deny your inner sweetness now, my dear meringue!

      • 84 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 00:35

You must give me a list, then! (Wouldn’t you love to see what VM had to say about P&P?)

I thought you said the professor wasn’t sweet?

      • 85 FictionFan November 29, 2013 at 14:25

No. No, thank you, I wouldn’t. No, thank you very much. Indeed.

Er…no…I think you’re confusing me with someone else again. (Hint: I’m the Scottish one…)

      • 86 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 17:19

Well, the professor has nothing to do with writing the script. It’s the cowriter. So I am blameless!

Huff-Hum and five roars! As if the professor would get his PL family confused!

      • 87 FictionFan November 29, 2013 at 19:20

        So the co-writer isn’t like…ahem…Mic, then?

Huff-hum back to you! Perhaps you should develop some kind of card-index system so you can differentiate us – I’ve never thought of myself as interchangeable before… ;)

For the record, I think you’re sweet (and confused) but not romantic. Hope that helps!

      • 88 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 21:43

Huff-Hum and ten roars, no! But then again, Mic is a real, real, real person.

        I…I…I…dadblame Darby!

That’s quite mean. Confused…and sweet. How would you define romantic? The professor is quite confused about this. Some think he is, some think he isn’t.

      • 89 FictionFan November 30, 2013 at 01:45

Of course he is! In a parallel universe, anyway…

        No, I’m not Darby, either!

Well…just as a hypothetical example…a romantic man is unlikely to confuse one woman with another… ;)

      • 90 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 14:32

        Going gone.

        Lizio, then, dadblameit!

 I didn’t! But I do confuse you with Tuppence from time to time…

      • 91 FictionFan November 30, 2013 at 17:14

        It’s OK, Mr Fish, I’ve forgiven you…

        (Tuppence hasn’t, though!)

      • 92 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 21:17

(Tell Tuppence she should be honored.)

  8. 93 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 28, 2013 at 16:03

Ok. The voice was awesome, but I’m not convinced that he believed want he was trying to sell us. I think he may enjoy a good story.

The guitar in the beginning was the best Thanksgiving gift ever! !! Hands down! :)

Now with that all being said. ..

WHY ARE WE FRIENDS AGAIN, PROFESSOR?

While I fully enjoyed your rather sweet attempt to entertain us, I whole heartedly disagree.

These three happen to be classic favorites of mine. WH…no, I won’t defend them.

    Happy Thanksgiving, Grinch. :D

    • 94 Professor VJ Duke November 28, 2013 at 18:27

Oh, VM (VoiceMaster) might, you know. He was just reading the script that the PL’s cowriter–Nick Warren–wrote.

You liked the guitar, really? :)

 The professor didn’t write the script! It was all the studio. You can’t blame me for it. The only thing I did was watch. The professor actually never read any of the books!

Grinch indeed! I like that lots.

      • 95 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 28, 2013 at 20:12

VM did a fine job! So my beef is with Mr. Warren?

Really, truly. I don’t expect the professorish mind to remember that the bass happens to be one of my favorite instruments. Hearing the guitar was a nice surprise.

Blaming the “studio”… Quite likely the move of a ….well forget it. :) So I guess the comments shan’t be just for the professor. It seems lots of minds are at work here. Noted.

Too bad you haven’t read MD, he describes the women of New Bedford gorgeously.

Jokes on you, the Grinch happens to be sweet.

      • 96 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 00:33

Yes! Don’t you believe me, dadblameit?

I do remember that. The professor wonders who played the guitar…

Of a what, dadblameit?! Being insulted now, is this poor, lost professor.

Why would the professor care about the women of New Bedford? Do you like the women in Nantucket?

He died just before he turned sweet.

      • 97 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 29, 2013 at 01:04

Of course I believe you. Just need to know who do direct my opinion to.

Me, too. Should look into it someday.

No, I prefer the women in New Bedford, you may have the Nantucket clan.

        Whatever

      • 98 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 17:15

        Hmm…you’re a wily one, Aud!

The professor doesn’t want any, thank you. We all know the problems that could suddenly appear.

        Huff-Hum!

  9. 99 bardictale November 28, 2013 at 15:54

Happy day to you as well professor!

    • 100 Professor VJ Duke November 28, 2013 at 18:25

Thank you! Have a great turkey (?) day!

  10. 101 The Dancing Rider November 28, 2013 at 15:43

Ha ha! :) Very funny rips! :) I shan’t be reading MD any time soon. I tried once. And that was it!

Can’t do VH either, ala’ Les Mis. Nope.

    EB?! No way! LOL!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

    • 102 Professor VJ Duke November 28, 2013 at 18:25

The professor never read any of them, you know!

Did you say you’ve never read Les Miz?

      Do you like EB?

      Happy to you too!

      • 103 The Dancing Rider November 28, 2013 at 18:43

Tried reading Les Miserables. No luck. It was so much easier to watch Hugh Jackman, lol.

I can’t really say that I do like EB, I might admit to watching movie adaptations of her books though.

      • 104 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 00:30

The professor was actually able to get through Les Miz, but I’ve never seen the musical!

        I hear her sister didn’t like P&P.

      • 105 The Dancing Rider November 29, 2013 at 20:03

Ha, ha — that would figure, wouldn’t it.

      • 106 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 21:46

It would. All very strange, you know.

  11. 107 ladycheetah7 November 28, 2013 at 15:03

Whale racial profiling??? Baaahhaaahhaaa. That so made my day! Jolly Good Rips PVJ!

    • 108 Professor VJ Duke November 28, 2013 at 18:24

 Great line, wasn’t it? The PL’s cowriter was responsible for the script. I’m sure the Lady is tempted to read every one now!

  12. 109 sknicholls November 28, 2013 at 14:41

Happy Thanksgiving and if you don’t celebrate…then have a happy day just the same.

    • 110 Professor VJ Duke November 28, 2013 at 18:23

Happy Thanksgiving to you too, my dear! Have plenty of professorish turkey.

      • 111 Susan P November 29, 2013 at 16:33

What exactly is Professorish turkey? Please tell.

      • 112 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 17:24

It tastes very badly and is quite scary to look at.

      • 113 Susan P November 29, 2013 at 18:56

All turkeys are scary to look at. They are so stupid it defies description. I read a non-fiction book about a family that decided to raise turkeys and the dadblame tom had to be taught how to, um, let’s just say he had no idea how it all worked. Funniest passage in the book was woman’s description of trying to teach him. I laughed so had that tears ran down my cheeks.

      • 114 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 21:41

 So, they’re dumb too! Who wants to eat a dumb, ugly, ill-tasting bird? Surely not the professor. (I laughed just reading your paragraph. Can only imagine the book passage!)

      • 115 Susan P November 29, 2013 at 22:27

        It’s a great book.

      • 116 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 00:24

        What’s it called?

      • 117 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 04:51

Yeah, I knew you were going to ask me that. I will have try to find it because I can’t remember the title.

Don’t burden yourself for the professorish sake!

      • 119 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 14:38

Too late. ‘Sides, I wanna know.

      • 120 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 14:46

        Great!

      • 121 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 14:53

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life
        Kingsolver, Barbara

I thought I had put it on my GoodReads but ended up having to find it on her GR page. It’s a well-written and informative story. Her younger daughter is a piece of work.

      • 122 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2013 at 21:14

Thanks! Ooo, what do you mean by piece of work? Sounds dreadful.

      • 123 Susan P November 30, 2013 at 21:28

It is. Dreadful. My granddaughter is a piece of work. In her case, it means that she finagles with the house rules and sometimes just does something because she wants to do it even though she knows there are consequences. I would say someone who is a piece of work is someone who is always testing the fences and who may from time to time just go ahead and do something because the penalty is totally worth it for them.

 It sounds like the professor!

hahahaha racial profiling of a whale??? I love it! I must agree…I would have bitten the captains leg off as well. I have read all three books and like them all. Well..Moby Dick irks me but how can you not like Wuthering heights? Never mind…I know why.

    • 130 Professor VJ Duke November 28, 2013 at 18:22

Well, you must know, the professor didn’t write the script. The team did this one. The PL’s co-writer (man, does he read–a lot!) put together the script. And the VM narrated.

The professor hasn’t read any of them, sadly. Do you recommend any?

      • 131 Anja November 28, 2013 at 21:00

I recommend them all. ;) although moby dick I would recommend just because it’s a classic.

      • 132 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 00:34

But, you know, I probably won’t read it.

      • 133 Anja November 29, 2013 at 00:37

ha You could have fun ripping it

      • 134 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 00:39

If I would make it through alive.

      • 135 Anja November 29, 2013 at 00:40

You would survive….Ahab isn’t after you.

      • 136 Professor VJ Duke November 29, 2013 at 00:47

Maybe the professor is like the white whale?
