A Professorish Note

It’s a bit dadblame busy over this professorish way. Always seems to be at the end of the year. (Did you know that the professor’s picture is plastered all over the internet? In truth, this is true. But I digress.)

So, this week’s Friday video will be a bit different. Instead of a skit or movie, two PL characters will be holding a spontaneous dialogue. No script! (Feel free to make suggestions about what two characters you’d like to see.)

One more thing.

The professor had a bowl of oatmeal this past week, and it reaffirmed to him why oatmeal and this professor aren’t great friends. Of course, it could have been Nick’s doing. Thanks, Mr. Warren!

    Hey Professor,

Maybe you should try Trader Joe’s Oat Bran instead. It’s kind of like Cream of Wheat, only better. And it’s oh so good for you. :)

    Nancy

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke December 9, 2013 at 15:11

      Lots of protein?

      • 3 Nancy Loderick December 9, 2013 at 17:44

        Dear Professor,

Yes, lots of protein and fiber too! :) All good. :)

        Nancy

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke December 9, 2013 at 20:13

        That does sound good!

  2. 5 Hazy December 8, 2013 at 05:18

December is always so dadblame busy. Work is crazy and I’m not done with Christmas shopping yet myself. I hope the professor would get some breathing room to relax soon. Does the professor do Christmas shopping?

(What picture is this you speak of? Plastered where? I doubt you’ll show it, but I’ll politely ask to see it anyway.)

I kinda like oatmeal, but with sugar. I can’t stand it without sweetness (it tastes yucketh). But oatmeal cookies are a different story, they’re fantastic, especially with cashews (or butterscotch chips).

    • 6 Professor VJ Duke December 9, 2013 at 15:08

I do! I’m almost finished…I think. How’s everything going over there–with the disaster?

(Well, if you had the professor’s other name, you could find it. It was quite wicked of me to say.)

I agree completely! Needs sugar. Oh! They would be good with cashews. Must try this, for sure.

      • 7 Hazy December 27, 2013 at 02:21

I hope you had fun Christmas shopping! Christmas is my favorite holiday. What’s yours?

Thanks for asking, Professor! Things are getting better, I think. Recovery from the disaster will take some time, but we’ll get there. Our people are spirited and resilient. :D

(Quite wicked streak indeed  I doubt the professor will tell me his other name even if I asked very nicely.)

      • 8 Professor VJ Duke December 30, 2013 at 15:06

Christmas too! It is such fun.

That’s awesome news. Hope things continue to progress!

        ( Maybe one day…)

      • 9 Hazy December 31, 2013 at 12:44

        Thanks!

(Maybe one day indeed… I’m going to hold you to that.)

      • 10 Professor VJ Duke December 31, 2013 at 20:19

        (Haha!)

  3. 11 L. Marie December 5, 2013 at 16:14

I’m sorry that you and oatmeal disagree. Have you tried reasoning with it? If you must go your separate ways, what will you eat instead?

    • 12 Professor VJ Duke December 5, 2013 at 17:59

Reasoning? I have not! But it sounds like a possibility. Tell me, is oatmeal usually reasonable? I doubt it.

      Maybe cherries?

  4. 13 portergirl December 5, 2013 at 11:21

I would love to see a picture of the Professor. But, if you will not provide further clues as to where your picture may be, I shall draw one myself and declare it to be your likeness, for my own amusement.

I would love to hear the Professor and Manly! But I rather fancy Mr Ratherquite and his Ladies would be entertaining as well.

    • 14 Professor VJ Duke December 5, 2013 at 17:57

Goodness! But what will the professor look like in your picture?

Okay, then! I think Mr. R will be involved…

      • 15 portergirl December 5, 2013 at 20:19

        Hurrah!

The Professor will look… Professorish, to say the least

      • 16 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 04:15

That is saying the least! I want details! Many of them!

      • 17 portergirl December 6, 2013 at 12:35

How demanding you are, my dear Professor. Very well, if you insist…
The Professor is a man, first and foremost, a man who is handsome if you look at him properly. He looks neither young nor old, but has the physical qualities of both an experienced life lived fulsomely and those of one who is still expectant about the world. His eyes are deep, lucid and the colour of a thousand galaxies. It is the nose I like the best; strong and noble and immaculately maintained. Hands like bear paws. Occasionally, there maybe a moustache to speak of and there is often a hat. A hat of distinction.
I have tried not to let my experience of other professors (I meet a lot of them in my line of work) colour my view, as I feel that you are not like them at all. On an unconnected note, the professors I know always seem to look inherently English, no matter where in the world they come from. Weird, huh?

      • 18 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 16:17

 I love the part about the eyes. :D

No, I agree with you. Professors look English. Of course, professorish professors–of which I’m the only one–don’t.

      • 19 portergirl December 6, 2013 at 18:07

And I am so pleased you are a professorish professor – sooo much more original!

      • 20 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 18:21

Aw, thanks! I’m the only one–like Tigger, you know.

      • 21 portergirl December 6, 2013 at 19:14

        Wonderful!

      • 22 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 20:29

        :D

  5. 23 Painting Pundit December 5, 2013 at 04:01

Sounds like some dadblamery going on!

    • 24 Professor VJ Duke December 5, 2013 at 17:55

      There sure is, P!

  6. 25 Jackie December 4, 2013 at 23:24

BOY Can I relate to being busy! What about oatmeal cookies? Do you like them? Or is it just a general disdain of oatmeal?

    • 26 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 23:27

Dadblame busy indeed! The professor loves oatmeal cookies. Do you like oatmeal?

      • 27 Jackie December 5, 2013 at 00:51

I can take take it or leave it! Cookies are another story – I love oatmeal cookies. Yum! :-D

      • 28 Professor VJ Duke December 5, 2013 at 17:55

That’s how I was until just recently! Me too! Cookies are the best. Punchalicious!

  7. 29 The Dancing Rider December 4, 2013 at 21:11

Which professor’s picture?! You did not say “my” picture, so is it of someone else?

I love oatmeal, stuck in craw and all. ;-)

Hate to sound so predictable, but of course I like Salami’s voice and various chuckles and horrid laughter. But I would gladly take some byplay from ANY two characters.

    • 30 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 21:58

No, it’s this professor’s picture…under another name, though.

Haha, really? Lots of brown sugar needed!

What a decision! I’ll have to see who’s available.

      • 31 The Dancing Rider December 5, 2013 at 14:28

Oh, ok. So where shall I look to see the professor then?!

Yes, I really DO love oatmeal!

      • 32 Professor VJ Duke December 5, 2013 at 17:57

Well, I can’t tell you, ’cause then you’d know all my professorish secrets. Then what would happen? Pure dadblamery, I assure you!

        Maybe with cherries and cashews?

      • 33 The Dancing Rider December 5, 2013 at 21:58

Oh that is so unfair! You see all of us, yet we cannot catch a glimpse of the professor! THAT is dadblamery! :)

I love cherries, but I really just enjoy my oatmeal with milk and brown sugar!

      • 34 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 04:16

        But you’ve seen my ring…

        And cashews…

      • 35 The Dancing Rider December 6, 2013 at 14:16

It is still dadblamery! Ring and cashews or not! ;-) And you must admit it is. You must!

However. The mystery is something which perhaps has to be preserved. :)

      • 36 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 16:20

        Okay…I admit it…

The professor is not a mystery!

      • 37 The Dancing Rider December 6, 2013 at 23:41

Then you must refer us to the page(s) which show your picture. Smirk.

      • 38 Professor VJ Duke December 7, 2013 at 04:12

Dadblameit! All you would need is the professor’s name…

      • 39 The Dancing Rider December 7, 2013 at 14:52

Which, of course, shall never be provided. :)

      • 40 Professor VJ Duke December 7, 2013 at 20:42

        You wouldn’t want it anyway!

      • 41 The Dancing Rider December 7, 2013 at 20:43

        I can’t imagine a single PL family member who wouldn’t! :)

Oh, and somewhere I think you may have asked about snow. Can’t find it now. Suffice to say, we skied for 15 years, I lived in snow for two…..yes, it’s nice, but wouldn’t want to live there! Lol.

      • 42 Professor VJ Duke December 7, 2013 at 20:46

        But then…then…dadblameit!

I love snow! But maybe if it was around constantly, I wouldn’t.

  8. 43 krugthethinker December 4, 2013 at 18:55

Oh no! I hope that oatmeal did not do you any real harm!

    • 44 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 19:26

I don’t think so physically, but mentally, yes!

  9. 45 Debbie December 4, 2013 at 18:46

Oh, dear Professor — oatmeal?? YUCK! I refused to eat it as a child, and no way will I touch it now. I know just what you mean about December being BUSY — rest up, okay? Things can just wait!

    • 46 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 18:55

Yucketh indeed! How do you get it out of your throat? Thank you, Debbie!

  10. 47 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 4, 2013 at 18:43

Take time for yourself, professor. (Oh I’m very sure of that…) (pooleeesee)

Well, of all the voices I’ve gotten to listen to, I’d have to choose Manly/Jazzy and the professor. (You two have good media chemistry and it’s my fav.)
But…maybe it’s time we hear from Arthur or Dr. Zauberer.

Do you enjoy blaming Mr. Warren? :D Stupid oatmeal…

    • 48 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 18:54

Hmm…I think you like flustering the professor… (It’s true! The professor has the last laugh. I professor promise.)

      How about Mr. R?

Only when it’s his fault! I think you like picking one me….

      • 49 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 4, 2013 at 18:58

I do, I truly do. But not to the point that your draw your sword.

(Hmm hmm. You tease the PLF.)

Okay, if you play the red headed lady. ;)

        * Audith, shakes her head a lotta* ;)

        Feel better!!

      • 50 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 19:29

        Well, it’s drawn!

        (Nope. :) )

        Me? The professor?

        Noooo!

      • 51 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 4, 2013 at 19:39

        I should back away.

        (ok, then)

Yes, you! Let us hear your girl voice.

        Yessss!

      • 52 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 20:57

A girl voice? Interesting you should say that…

      • 53 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 4, 2013 at 21:02

You introduced one a few weeks ago. Who did it, Daniel or something. So yeah, now you should have to do it.

      • 54 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 21:58

But the professor doesn’t do such things!

      • 55 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 4, 2013 at 22:45

        Then be the professor.

      • 56 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 23:26

        That’s much better, I think.

      • 57 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 4, 2013 at 23:36

(Doing my best to bite my tongue.) Yes, I agree, actually.

      • 58 Professor VJ Duke December 5, 2013 at 17:50

Go ahead. Say what you want. The professor only bites when he’s angry.

      • 59 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 5, 2013 at 20:06

(I was just going to give you more grief.) I decided to admit that I like the professor just as he is, as well.

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 04:13

You’re very wicked, Audith. A dastardly fellow, that professor! (That’s what will be on my tomb.)

      • 61 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 6, 2013 at 04:25

        I can be sweet, can’t I… :D

Not too soon, then, okay. I kinda like having you around, Duke.

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 16:15

Hmm…I don’t know…it’s not something to strive for.

        :D That is nice.

      • 63 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 6, 2013 at 20:08

        It is for me.

      • 64 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 20:32

        :P

      • 65 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 6, 2013 at 20:36

Don’t stick your tongue out at me…I can do that too! :P

      • 66 Professor VJ Duke December 7, 2013 at 04:08

        Ja-beanwicky!

      • 67 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 7, 2013 at 06:10

        Gotcha ;)

      • 68 Professor VJ Duke December 7, 2013 at 20:27

        :P

      • 69 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 7, 2013 at 21:35

Do you have something on your tongue? Why do you keep showing it off? A speechless professor.

      • 70 Professor VJ Duke December 9, 2013 at 14:57

        A Huff-Hum and 20 roars to you!

  11. 71 Anja December 4, 2013 at 18:40

Looking forward to the video….it sounds fun!!! I love oatmeal. How can something so yummy upset your stomach ?

    • 72 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 18:53

It got stuck in my throat. You must like things getting stuck in your throat. Ever had peanut butter and oatmeal at the same time? I bet that would be dadblamery!

      • 73 Anja December 4, 2013 at 18:58

Lol how does oatmeal get stuck in how throat? You don’t even have to chew. Maybe you don’t cook it right. I don’t eat peanut butter. :)

      • 74 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 19:28

I’m not sure, but it did. I thought you liked peanut butter?

      • 75 Anja December 4, 2013 at 22:39

        I like ALMOND butter

      • 76 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 23:26

        That’s right! I should’ve remembered that.

      • 77 Anja December 4, 2013 at 23:27

Exactly……I only use almond flour as well

      • 78 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 23:28

        Well that’s neat.

      • 79 Anja December 4, 2013 at 23:33

        More than neat

      • 80 Professor VJ Duke December 5, 2013 at 17:49

        That’s glorious, then.

  12. 81 MissTiffany December 4, 2013 at 17:50

Oh dear, if I had been there, I would have warned the Professor against such odious foods as oatmeal (bleh!).

I am fond of Mr. Ratherquite. I would be happy to see him and his ladies.

    • 82 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 18:52

Yes! What to do when it gets stuck in one’s throat?

      And Daniel?

  13. 83 technophile9 December 4, 2013 at 17:20

The lead up to Christmas is always super busy. :)

    And do Zez and Schwarz!

    • 84 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 18:51

It is! (Do you think we could skip the first couple of weeks in December?)

      What about Mr. R?

      • 85 technophile9 December 4, 2013 at 19:06

Oh he would be very good as well! :D

      • 86 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 19:30

Okay, then! I’ll see who I can get at such late notice.

  14. 87 ladycheetah7 December 4, 2013 at 17:06

    Aww. Poor boo-boo.
A picture? Of course you would tell us and leave us hanging as usual. If this is true that is….
Any two characters would be fine as long as the chemistry is good.

    • 88 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 18:50

      I think you’re laughing the professor scorn…

Oh, it’s very true. You wouldn’t doubt it now, would you?

Mr. R maybe just for you…

      • 89 ladycheetah7 December 4, 2013 at 19:05

        I am not.
        Show us the picture.
Whoever you want for the script.
        O:-)

      • 90 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 19:30

Well, it dadblame sounded like it! Didn’t it, Susan?

Oh no. That would be cheating. You should just know lots are out there…

        A halo?

  15. 91 FictionFan December 4, 2013 at 15:15

Ye’ll ne’er be a true Scotsman if ye cannae haunle yer porridge, Prof!

    Schwarzy!!! Salami!!!

What picture? Where? Where??? (Is it a picture of you dancing???)

    • 92 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 18:49

Or hunt Haggis, I suppose… I do hope the porridge is better in Scotland.

      Over Daniel?

Not dancing…actually. It’s under a different name, you know.

      • 93 FictionFan December 4, 2013 at 20:07

In the auld days, Scots used to make porridge so thick you could cut slices off it once it was cold and carry it for lunch (only they weren’t posh enough for it to be called lunch then…)

Daniel would be good too, but you specified two…

I would ask, but you won’t tell, so I won’t. Dadblamery, anyway, I expect!

      • 94 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 21:01

Yucketh. Doesn’t sound too tasty. Rather try haggis, wouldn’t you?

I know! I’ll have to see who’s available.

Actually, no. The professor is being honest.

      • 95 FictionFan December 4, 2013 at 21:32

        Actually yes, I probably would…

It’ll be fun whoever it is, I’m sure…and if not we’ll just insult them, and that’ll be fun instead… ;)

Not asking, since the Professor won’t tell.

      • 96 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 21:59

        Surprised you said that!

        Which will be wicked…

He won’t. Not yet, at least.

      • 97 FictionFan December 4, 2013 at 22:45

        Eternally surprising, that’s me… ;)

        Oh…and eternally wicked!

Then the Professor shouldn’t have brought the subject up…

      • 98 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 23:27

Very wicked and surprising, tis true.

        You’re right, but I couldn’t resist. I do apologize.

  16. 99 Susan P December 4, 2013 at 14:48

I’m sure we all hope that the Professor is over the oatmeal (not this kind, I suppose http://theoatmeal.com/). What fun – a word duel on Friday. Dadblame it! You are not supposed to be under the weather.

    • 100 Susan P December 4, 2013 at 14:49

I always feel bustled in December myself. Take care.

      • 101 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 18:46

Maybe we should just skip the month?

      • 102 Susan P December 4, 2013 at 19:18

I did that last year. I did no decorating, no stockings stuffed, no carols sung. My daughters came in at the last minute and put the nativity scene on the mantle and hung up the stockings. Then it all sat there until . . .

      • 103 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 19:31

        Until when?

      • 104 Susan P December 4, 2013 at 19:57

That’s a good question. It might have been around May.

      • 105 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 20:58

The professor likes to get them down fast!

      • 106 Susan P December 4, 2013 at 22:03

Normally, I get them down on New Year’s Day. Last year was an exception.

      • 107 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 23:24

That’s when the professor usually does it too.

      • 108 Susan P December 5, 2013 at 00:24

My mama did it that way and if it was good enough for her…

      • 109 Professor VJ Duke December 5, 2013 at 17:54

It makes sense to do it then, I think.

      • 110 Susan P December 5, 2013 at 19:11

Except my mama didn’t do it well.

      • 111 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 04:08

Oh, didn’t quite get them down on time?

      • 112 Susan P December 6, 2013 at 13:40

I don’t know what it was. A mystery, perhaps.

      • 113 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 16:18

        Definitely!

    • 116 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 18:46

Haha, not that oatmeal! Yes, I’m quite over it, I think…

Yes, yes. Under the weather? Who said the professor was?

      • 117 Susan P December 4, 2013 at 19:15

        Me thinks the Professor.

      • 118 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 19:31

I did? Must’ve been a dadblame mistake. My head is under the weather, though.

      • 119 Susan P December 4, 2013 at 19:56

You were at Arthur’s birthday party – that would give anyone’s head a case of under the weather.

      • 120 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 20:58

        Very true. Poor Schwarz.

      • 121 Susan P December 4, 2013 at 22:03

        Indeed.

      • 122 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 23:24

        *nods sadly*

      • 123 Susan P December 5, 2013 at 00:25

Someone should have a party and cheer him up.

      • 124 Professor VJ Duke December 5, 2013 at 17:55

You’re right. We should. Maybe I could do something with the blog…

      • 125 Susan P December 5, 2013 at 19:11

Yes. Do that. And it should include chocolate salami.

      • 126 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 04:09

Haha, Schwarz would definitely eat that, I think. Now, I’m not sure about the professor…

      • 127 Susan P December 6, 2013 at 13:40

Oh goodness, how bad can cookies in chocolate be?

      • 128 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 16:19

Well, the whole dadblame thing scares me, dadblameit….chocolate salami…

      • 129 Susan P December 6, 2013 at 17:52

Come on, Professor. It’s time to go where no professor has gone….

      • 130 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 18:20

Ooo, I hear that last line in VM’s voice…

      • 131 Susan P December 6, 2013 at 19:09

Oh yeah. Take along some chocolate salami. Or bologna.

      • 132 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2013 at 20:28

        Chocolate bologna? Dear me!

      • 133 Susan P December 7, 2013 at 16:52

That does sound kind of ick.

      • 134 Professor VJ Duke December 7, 2013 at 20:43

        It does!

      • 135 Susan P December 7, 2013 at 20:48

        :)

      • 136 Professor VJ Duke December 9, 2013 at 14:55

Where is the professor’s picture? I don’t think I have actually seen him!

    • 138 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2013 at 18:43

That’s because Professor VJ Duke is not on the picture! ;)
