An excellent blurb! I’ve only read the children’s book version of A Christmas Carol and seen the movies though.

The ghosts were biased because he has money. I’ve never thought of that before, you make a good point. I think you may be right!

Though the movie I watch every Christmas is “It’s a Wonderful Life” Jimmy Stewart is such a treat to watch. Has the professor seen it?

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke December 30, 2013 at 15:11

The professor’s seen so many movies his head might explode.

      I have! It’s a great movie. Let’s see…I like his uncle best, I think.

      • 3 Hazy December 31, 2013 at 12:51

 Too many versions can make anyone’s head explode, I think.

Oh, the uncle, good one! I liked the angel who eventually got his wings :D

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke December 31, 2013 at 20:20

        Definitely!

        Ooo, I like him too.

  2. 5 The Dancing Rider December 17, 2013 at 23:15

I liked those page turns at the outset, nice effect. Can’t stand A Christmas Carol, I don’t care how classic it is. Though I did feel bad for Scrooge whenever I watched this on TV!

Katana is a very nice touch.

    • 6 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2013 at 13:43

Ah, thank you! I must admit, I’ve grown rather sick of the story with all the dadblame adaptions!

      :D

  3. 7 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 17, 2013 at 20:08

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I think the story of Scrooge is a good place to start. Well done, studio.

    Nice katana, professor.

    • 8 Professor VJ Duke December 17, 2013 at 20:13

      Many thanks, Audith.

      Isn’t it beautiful? :D :D :D

      • 9 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 17, 2013 at 20:14

Yes, but I thought it’d be wider, if I’m being honest. But what do I know. Plus you forgot to clean the blood off of it. ;)

      • 10 Professor VJ Duke December 17, 2013 at 20:15

Blood? Now what do you suppose the professor killed?

        The thinner the better.

      • 11 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 17, 2013 at 20:17

Not sure, a rabbit for dinner?

Ok, good to know. In general, that’s what most people say about most things, except a Christmas Goose.

      • 12 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2013 at 13:39

        Gollum liked the idea.

        Broadswords are better thick, though.

      • 13 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 18, 2013 at 14:19

        He’s too scary.

I’ll take your word for it. Swords bore me. :D

      • 14 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2013 at 21:46

        Pathetic, you mean.

They do? This is not good, since you will be writing an action scene.

      • 15 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 19, 2013 at 02:45

Yes, pathetic. We’ll go on your knowledge on this one.

I have already written it. :D

      • 16 Professor VJ Duke December 19, 2013 at 14:44

        Really?

      • 17 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 19, 2013 at 15:09

        Yes. Thanks for recommending it.

      • 18 Professor VJ Duke December 19, 2013 at 16:11

        Thanks for doing it!

      • 19 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 19, 2013 at 18:23

:) It was good to get the writing of boring swords out of the way…;) (Aud’s running for cover!)

      • 20 Professor VJ Duke December 19, 2013 at 23:31

You should run! Where’s the post?

      • 21 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 20, 2013 at 01:34

Running so fast!!! (Stop chasing me.) Oh that…still in my vault. It is amazing too, by the way. :)

      • 22 Professor VJ Duke December 20, 2013 at 13:39

Get it out of the vault–now!

      • 23 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 20, 2013 at 18:52

        Fierce Professor

        But…

      • 24 Professor VJ Duke December 20, 2013 at 20:37

        How wicked of you.

      • 25 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 20, 2013 at 21:02

I am allowing it to sit for a little while. You were in my brain a little too long after you suggested it, so I need the story to prove that it’s its own. Does that make sense?

      • 26 Professor VJ Duke December 21, 2013 at 14:58

That actually does make sense–professorish sense.

      • 27 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 21, 2013 at 15:09

        Very professorish sense

      • 28 Professor VJ Duke December 21, 2013 at 15:11

        Which is good.

      • 29 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 22, 2013 at 03:38

        I’d like to think so.

      • 30 Professor VJ Duke December 30, 2013 at 15:05

  4. 31 Anja December 17, 2013 at 18:26

I don’t think any other review of A Christmas Carol has ever mentioned use of a katana. Very clever.

    • 32 Professor VJ Duke December 17, 2013 at 20:12

Katana makes the whole thing, huh?

      • 33 Anja December 17, 2013 at 22:41

Ha I think I have to agree with that comment. :)

      • 34 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2013 at 13:42

        :D

      • 35 Anja December 18, 2013 at 13:51

Are you feeling smug that I agreed? Lol

      • 36 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2013 at 21:41

        I am!

      • 37 Anja December 18, 2013 at 21:44

ha…well that is my Christmas gift to you :)

      • 38 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2013 at 21:55

Aww! And I should send you a tortoise.

      • 39 Anja December 18, 2013 at 21:58

I have plenty of sea turtles around me but if you wish, I will happily accept.

      • 40 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2013 at 22:52

You do? :D Must take a pic for the professor!

      • 41 Anja December 18, 2013 at 22:56

Of the sea turtles? I have some of a hatching a year or so ago. It isn’t the season right now.

      • 42 Professor VJ Duke December 19, 2013 at 14:37

Well, I’d like to see them.

      • 43 Anja December 19, 2013 at 18:42

Okay. Will look through my photos

      • 44 Professor VJ Duke December 19, 2013 at 23:32

        Great!

  5. 45 L. Marie December 17, 2013 at 14:32

Hee hee! That about sums it up: Scrooge’s torture. Made me laugh out loud though at the poor man’s expense.

    • 46 Professor VJ Duke December 17, 2013 at 16:00

Everybody was against him. Poor soul.

  6. 47 FictionFan December 17, 2013 at 14:28

 Nice seasonal rip, but even the PL can’t destroy the best ghost story ever written…and it doesn’t even need a katana to defend itself.

    • 48 Professor VJ Duke December 17, 2013 at 15:59

I always did feel bad for Scrooge. Didn’t you? Glad Nick brought that out.

      Neither does the professor!

      • 49 FictionFan December 17, 2013 at 17:31

No, I felt Scrooge was lucky and got off pretty lightly! Anyone who eats gruel in preference to turkey deserves to be haunted…

      • 50 Professor VJ Duke December 17, 2013 at 20:12

That’s true. But I’m sure he could have found something more tasty than Turkey. Maybe a goose, duck, or bear–or something like that.

      • 51 FictionFan December 17, 2013 at 21:43

Not bear!! Bears are cuddly. Goose followed by chocolate pudding, perhaps.

      • 52 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2013 at 13:42

I like bears, it’s true. But I think you’re getting confused between Darby and a bear. Bears can have six inch claws.

      • 53 FictionFan December 18, 2013 at 14:05

Just about the same length as Tuppence’s then – but, since bear claws are made out of pastry, probably less lethal…

(Darby is cuddly, though, isn’t he?)

      • 54 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2013 at 21:43

  Bear claws are so good. Have you had one yet?

(Personally? I wouldn’t put it quite like that.)

  7. 55 Susan P December 17, 2013 at 14:22

Nice chuckle at the end there, Mr. Voice Master. Well, whatever its failings may be, at least A Christmas Carol does not take five years to read like some of his other novels. The really really really scary spirit is the spirit of Christmas yet to come. Unless you are watching the Muppet’s Christmas Carol. Then it’s those two noisy buys up in the balcony.

Well done. And I still love this story except a few passages that should be cut in size.

    • 56 Professor VJ Duke December 17, 2013 at 15:57

That’s true. I think it might take the professor 10 to get through another Dickens that he is reading, but that’s because I’m such a slow reader.

 They always give the professor shivers!

      Many thanks. Which passages?

      • 57 Susan P December 17, 2013 at 16:30

There is a really long social commentary when they are on the ship. He just kind of overkilled the social commentary. IMO

      • 58 Professor VJ Duke December 17, 2013 at 20:09

I see. You know, I have to read more of the beast.

      • 59 Susan P December 17, 2013 at 21:25

I suggest you read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever instead.

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2013 at 13:40

Did you know Salami tries to take Ruber to a Christmas Pageant every year? They missed the real thing years ago, but that doesn’t stop DS from trying year after year. Ruber was playing an angel.

      • 61 Susan P December 18, 2013 at 14:34

Good heavens. The thought boggles the mind.

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2013 at 21:47

I must have MM write about it in the new year.

      • 63 Susan P December 19, 2013 at 02:20

        Is Jazzy an expert?

      • 64 Professor VJ Duke December 19, 2013 at 14:40

Yes, he was there, I think.

      • 65 Susan P December 19, 2013 at 15:06

        :D

      • 66 Professor VJ Duke December 19, 2013 at 16:10

        :)
