Blatherings: Snow and the Unknown

The professor has been getting a lot of snow.

DSC00372

I love snow.

DSC00370

Even when the sun comes out.

DSC00371

The professor was having speaks with Nick the other some time, when he said to me:

“What everyone is afraid of is the unknown.”

And that hit the professor.

Does that mean people are afraid of me?

We don’t get snow on this side of the world. Just oodles of sun or rain. I think I’d like snow, but only for a bit. Then I’d probably get hypothermia.

Does the professor go ice skating or snow boarding or do other snow activities?

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke February 5, 2014 at 19:41

Haha! That’s how the professor feels. I’d like sun right now. Though, sledding is fun. :D

Sledding. I’ve tried ice skating, but I’m really bad!

      • 3 Hazy February 13, 2014 at 05:32

I’m not too good with skating either, but it’s fun when all your friends aren’t so good either. You fall together and make fun of each other.

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke February 13, 2014 at 14:47

        That would be fun.

  2. 5 ladycheetah7 January 30, 2014 at 17:28

I appreciate the pictures because I sure don’t miss snow.
Afraid of PVJ…um. No, unless you pull a Criminal Minds serial killer act then I would have to think about it.

    • 6 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:19

      Not even sled riding?

Oh, I don’t think I’ll do that. I’m too nice.

      • 7 ladycheetah7 January 30, 2014 at 21:27

I ain’t Santa Claus. Never did and never will. Lol!

      • 8 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 15:53

The professor isn’t Santy Claus nuther!

  3. 9 MissFourEyes January 30, 2014 at 16:12

I don’t know professor, maybe arch your eyebrows a bit and look over some glasses in a menacing way? There. That’s pretty scary

    • 10 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:18

You’re right. That’d work. (What if people laugh?)

  4. 11 Jackie January 30, 2014 at 15:22

I’m not afraid of the unknown.

    • 12 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:16

Good for you! You must teach the professor now… :)

      • 13 Jackie January 30, 2014 at 21:35

It’s not really something you can teach a person. It’s more of an inner thing. You have to fight the fear from within. You know, take out your metaphorical kantana and slice it down until it doesn’t exist anymore. It’s not easy – your desire to obliterate the fear is also a factor. Your success or failure in this endeavor is entirely in your hands.

      • 14 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 15:54

The professor can do this, especially if it involves a katana! ;)

      • 15 Jackie January 31, 2014 at 16:21

        8-)

  5. 16 bardictale January 30, 2014 at 10:44

    Oh, snow. So beautiful…
The question is, professor, do you want to be feared?

    • 17 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 14:19

      And cold!

Wouldn’t it make me more vicious?

      • 18 bardictale January 30, 2014 at 17:06

No. Just more likely to be assassinated.

      • 19 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:19

        Assassinated?!

      • 20 bardictale January 30, 2014 at 21:34

Well, yes. Vicious and scary? Why, any adventurer worth his pack would mistake you for a dastardly villain!

      • 21 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 15:53

Oh goodness, that’s true. Maybe I should stick to the hero path.

      • 22 bardictale February 1, 2014 at 16:26

Whichever you’ll choose, you’ll always be welcome in my tavern.

      • 23 Professor VJ Duke February 1, 2014 at 23:50

Thank you, Bard, the professor is honored!

  6. 24 Bethy January 29, 2014 at 23:59

I feel all jealouslike of your beautiful snow! And no I am not afraid of the professor!

    • 25 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 01:04

You should be! It’s quite beautifully cold. But I’m sort of jealous of your warm weather…

      Not at all???

      • 26 Bethy January 30, 2014 at 15:25

Um…everyone keeps telling me it’s warm here and I am having a hard time believing them! Especially when I sit in my house shivering! Besides, if it’s going to be this cold it should be AT LEAST snowing to get rid of all the ugly brown rain nasties.

Nope. I guess I’m not as scared of the unknown as Nick thinks everyone should be? I don’t know…you don’t seem scary even when you are wearing a mask!

      • 27 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:18

That’s true. Snow’s a pretty bother. Especially when the professor goes sled riding. (I swear I’ll kill myself going down that slope one day.)

        Rather pathetic, I fear.

      • 28 Bethy January 31, 2014 at 14:43

I would love the chance to go sled riding!!!!! That was my favorite winter sport. Never got enough gumption to try skiing.

Nope, not pathetic either! :P I’m sure we’ll come up with the right adjective(s) to describe you sooner or later if we keep trying!

      • 29 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 16:08

Me neither. I’d probably end up one with a tree.

        Not romantic, you know.

      • 30 Bethy January 31, 2014 at 16:22

Nope, not romantic either. (Although it’s been my experience that most guys think they aren’t romantic actually are in a way they hadn’t thought of.)

      • 31 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 18:48

Well, I’m not–too vicious. I am professorish, though.

      • 32 Bethy January 31, 2014 at 19:27

Ah see! Professorish is the perfect adjective.

      • 33 Professor VJ Duke February 1, 2014 at 00:04

Yes, we’re still working on a definition, though.

      • 34 Bethy February 3, 2014 at 14:38

Well let’s see. The professor is well-appointed because only well-appointed people look good in hats and according to PorterGirl you do!

      • 35 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 18:30

Well, I’m honored, you know. But I never blush. Never ever ever.

      • 36 Bethy January 31, 2014 at 16:27

Nope, not romantic either. (Although it’s been my experience that most guys think they aren’t romantic actually are in a way they hadn’t thought of.)

  7. 37 Gene'O January 29, 2014 at 22:48

Reblogged this on Sourcerer and commented:
I hope everyone had a Punchy (but safe) snow day.

  8. 38 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister January 29, 2014 at 17:22

Finally something I can answer with only a few words. 100% Yes

Stop bragging about your snow, Duke.

    • 39 Susan P January 29, 2014 at 17:46

      I know, right?

      • 40 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:18

        I might be sorry.

      • 41 Susan P January 29, 2014 at 21:23

You might be sorry either way.

      • 42 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister January 29, 2014 at 20:05

*shakes her head* He’s no good, I tell ya.

      • 43 Susan P January 29, 2014 at 21:25

I don’t know about that. He’s got to have something going for him.

      • 44 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister January 29, 2014 at 21:40

        :) He bloody fantastic.

      • 45 Susan P January 30, 2014 at 20:38

        Too right!

      • 46 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:59

        Not much, I fear.

      • 47 Susan P January 30, 2014 at 20:47

        What be you afeard of?

      • 48 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:24

        Tassie Devils.

      • 49 Susan P January 30, 2014 at 23:31

Ah. Of course. Can’t help ya there buddy.

      • 50 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 15:58

        Only Frankie can.

      • 51 Susan P January 31, 2014 at 17:54

        Ah, the all-purpose Frankie.

      • 52 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 18:58

        That’s funny sounding.

      • 53 Susan P February 1, 2014 at 17:22

        *takes a bow* :D

      • 54 Professor VJ Duke February 1, 2014 at 23:57

        Aren’t ladies supposed to curtsy?

      • 55 Susan P February 2, 2014 at 16:51

Oh, please. Susan does whatever suits her best. :)

      • 56 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 14:17

Then the professor might start doing the curtsy.

      • 57 Susan P February 3, 2014 at 14:52

Of course. You might even wear a kilt.

      • 58 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 18:37

        Never ever evereth.

      • 59 Susan P February 3, 2014 at 19:09

        Never say never… :D

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 23:56

        Huff-Hum and an apocalypse.

      • 61 Susan P February 4, 2014 at 19:36

I’ll raise you a hum and a half of an apocalypse.

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke February 4, 2014 at 21:35

 I’m interested in the half of the apocalypse…

      • 63 Susan P February 4, 2014 at 23:30

:D Do you want it NOW?

      • 64 Professor VJ Duke February 5, 2014 at 00:54

        Depends…

      • 65 Susan P February 5, 2014 at 13:21

        On?

      • 66 Professor VJ Duke February 5, 2014 at 19:44

        Is it painful?

      • 67 Susan P February 6, 2014 at 02:28

We will never know if we don’t have it.

      • 68 Professor VJ Duke February 6, 2014 at 13:56

But it sounds so; perhaps we should skip it, then.

      • 69 Susan P February 6, 2014 at 21:30

        Losing your curiosity already?

      • 70 Professor VJ Duke February 7, 2014 at 01:15

No, the professor is always curious.

      • 71 Susan P February 7, 2014 at 01:30

Don’t ever lose it. It’s ‘portant to an interesting life.

      • 72 Professor VJ Duke February 7, 2014 at 01:47

        :D You’re absolutely right.

      • 73 Susan P February 7, 2014 at 18:44

        :D

    • 74 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:18

      You are???

It’s lovely. Would you like some?

      • 75 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister January 29, 2014 at 20:14

        I am, 110% now.

I would. Can you kindly wrap it up and send it my way?

      • 76 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:54

I can try, but it might melt. Why are you scared of the lovely professor?

      • 77 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister January 30, 2014 at 01:06

It’ll melt. Best if you enjoy it. I’m sure it’s pretty there too.

Because you’ve told me be. I’m a good listener and air on the side of caution usually.

      • 78 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 01:10

        And cold, cold, dadblame cold!

Usually, unless you’re dealing with the professor.

      • 79 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister January 30, 2014 at 01:12

        Duke…you make me smike.

So Audith trusts the professor entirely? Nothing to fear?

      • 80 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 14:12

Well you make me smile too!

Nothing to fear at all. Nothing to even remotely fear.

      • 81 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister January 30, 2014 at 15:07

        I’m glad.

        Not even remotely?

      • 82 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:13

        Umm…na.

      • 83 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister January 31, 2014 at 03:49

        :)

  9. 84 Susan P January 29, 2014 at 16:18

Alas, I have no snow. Except the excellent photos that friends have shared with me. It is, however, a day that glowers where I am, and the cold arrive-eth in ever more chilly bands. A perfect day, in fact, to sit with the four-legged creatures in the house and read a book.

    • 85 Susan P January 29, 2014 at 16:20

And I fear no creature of the PL except possibly Mr. Ratherquite and his ladies.

      • 86 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:13

Not DS? Or Zez??? Or the Veezler???

      • 87 Susan P January 29, 2014 at 21:17

Nah. But maybe the Professor. Sometimes. :D

      • 88 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:55

        Really?

      • 89 Susan P January 30, 2014 at 20:43

        Why not?

      • 90 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:22

Because the professor is sweet? (Would you say it’s unmanly to dance, Susan?)

      • 91 Susan P January 30, 2014 at 23:28

Not at all, Professor. Not at all. Real men aren’t afraid to dance. How does MM feel about it?

      • 92 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 15:56

MM thinks he’s a disco dancer.

      • 93 Susan P January 31, 2014 at 17:48

        80’s much?

      • 94 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 18:56

I’ll bet. No one likes to dance with him, though he always grabs A. Furber.

      • 95 Susan P February 1, 2014 at 17:18

Should I feel sorry for A. Furber?

      • 96 Professor VJ Duke February 1, 2014 at 23:52

Yes–but she’s always trying to steal something from MM, so maybe not.

      • 97 Susan P February 2, 2014 at 16:45

It sounds like you think they deserve one another.

      • 98 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 14:15

Yes, I’d say so, I think.

      • 99 Susan P February 3, 2014 at 14:49

        ;)

      • 100 Susan P January 31, 2014 at 17:49

Send him to my county. The disco king lives here. Not, fortunately, very near.

      • 101 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 18:57

        Who’s the king?

      • 102 Susan P February 1, 2014 at 17:19

        John Travolta.

      • 103 Professor VJ Duke February 1, 2014 at 23:53

        I didn’t know he danced!

      • 104 Susan P February 2, 2014 at 16:46

Give me a break. You can’t pull that one over. Unless what he does is not what you consider dancing.

      • 105 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 14:16

I fear it’s true… The professor hasn’t even watched him in a film–except one, and I didn’t stay long. As MM would say, “I don’t like his face.”

      • 106 Susan P February 3, 2014 at 14:49

        No more do I.

      • 107 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 18:35

    • 108 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:13

      And drink cherry coffee. :)

      • 109 Susan P January 29, 2014 at 21:17

Okay…cherry? I like my coffee straight up.

      • 110 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:55

        Never had it cherry…

      • 111 Susan P January 30, 2014 at 20:42

        Cherries has pits.

      • 112 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:21

        You’d have to de-pit-asize them.

      • 113 Susan P January 30, 2014 at 23:27

        That’s a lot of work.

      • 114 Lady Pinkrose January 31, 2014 at 00:13

Ah, Susan, where is this blathering thread at these days? I am gone not even a day, and again I am lost. De-pit. Hmmmm…..is the subject cherries? Olives? Peaches? Prunes? Yuck! No idea but I thought I would throw a punchy line in, just to have my pink rose show up here in this Punchy Land. And that reminds me. I still have to go to my reader to make sure I get your latest posts. (sigh) Must I be SOOOOOOOOO busy???? I did go out in the woods today looking over my shoulder to make sure no vamps were around. I did get some pretty neat pictures.

BUT! This is the thing. I’m beginning to think I am fading or somethin’. Every pic of me is blurred. I set my tripod up, and set my camera on SIX different settings, set the timer, made sure where I was sitting was focused, and DANGNUMMERIT just like a cat, the picture of me blurred. Say what? I kid you not. I took SIX pictures all of a different pose and nope, every one of them blurred.

Do I even exist? Can you read what I am typing? Could it be I am an angel and that is why the camera doesn’t see me right? Or am I really a CAT?

        Unbelievable cattlefrop! GRRRRRRRR….

Thought I’d throw that out here cause I was out in the snow and all. And in the woods. So I really am not too off topic. I don’t think. What say you, Prof Frown? Or are you even around these parts now?

      • 115 Susan P January 31, 2014 at 00:19

        He’s here, he’s there, he’s everywhere…so beware!

      • 116 Lady Pinkrose January 31, 2014 at 00:24

He is a lurker. I KNEW it. I felt him lurking in the woods grinning evilly at me. I felt his presence and my hands did tremble. But I said, “Oh no you don’t. Now leave me be cause I have to change my lense to get this Great Blue Heron”. I stared fiercly into the woods and I guess that scowl got him scurrying. And in a hurry. I don’t mess around. And that is the look I had on my face. I AM gonna get this shot!! So go away. I feel him lurking even now.

        Who, who?

      • 119 Susan P January 31, 2014 at 17:58

Red alert: someone let an owl in here.

      • 120 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 19:01

The professor is like an owl, in truth.

      • 121 Susan P February 1, 2014 at 17:27

        :D

      • 122 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 16:02

      • 123 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 16:00

        Who is?

      • 124 Susan P January 31, 2014 at 17:55

        The Professor.

      • 125 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 19:00

        That’s so wicked.

      • 126 Susan P February 1, 2014 at 17:24

Wicked and frozen. That’s the Professor.

      • 127 Lady Pinkrose February 1, 2014 at 17:37

        I agree, Susan.

      • 128 Susan P February 1, 2014 at 21:37

:D How’d you know? (Love the last descriptive word.)

      • 130 Susan P February 2, 2014 at 16:53

:D A little snow bird told me.

      • 131 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 14:18

        I bet it was red.

      • 132 Susan P February 3, 2014 at 14:53

        How did you know?

      • 133 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 18:38

        It’s the professor’s favorite color.

      • 134 Susan P February 3, 2014 at 19:11

and Bethy’s favorite. Harry likes yellow.

      • 135 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 23:58

        I like yellow, too, but…

        What’s your favorite?

      • 136 Susan P February 4, 2014 at 19:37

        Purple – all shades.

      • 137 Professor VJ Duke February 4, 2014 at 21:35

Purple is lovely. Nice lightsaber color, too.

      • 138 Susan P February 4, 2014 at 23:31

        Oh, yes. ! :D

      • 139 Professor VJ Duke February 5, 2014 at 00:56

Now Mace Windu was the man.

      • 140 Susan P February 5, 2014 at 13:25

        Who?

      • 141 Professor VJ Duke February 5, 2014 at 19:45

He was the coolest of the Jedis. But of course he died. You know, the professor’s favorites always die. Hector, Windu…

      • 142 Susan P February 6, 2014 at 02:29

Now that is sad. But…most people have died – or will.

      • 143 Professor VJ Duke February 6, 2014 at 13:58

        A very good point.

      • 144 Susan P February 6, 2014 at 21:34

        :)

      • 145 Susan P February 6, 2014 at 21:35

Mic, I understand, has a point.

      • 146 Professor VJ Duke February 7, 2014 at 01:18

FEF thinks he’s me, and you think he’s a pencil! Dadblame all the dadblameries!

      • 147 Susan P February 7, 2014 at 01:33

        Giggle, laugh, chuckle.

      • 148 Professor VJ Duke February 7, 2014 at 01:48

        Huff, Hum, roar.

      • 149 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 15:55

        It sure is.

      • 150 Susan P January 31, 2014 at 17:48

        :D

  10. 151 Debbie January 29, 2014 at 16:18

I have snow, too, but I’m NOT a fan. Bring me balmy, warm, sunny skies. Now, would be nice! I don’t fear the professor either.

    • 152 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:12

Yes, I must say I’m in the mood for some warm weather!

      Not just a little bit?

  11. 153 FictionFan January 29, 2014 at 16:11

    No.

    • 154 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:12

Well, I think I knew that. Nothing scares FEF–except Zez.

      • 155 FictionFan January 29, 2014 at 23:21

Unless the Professor is a daddy-long-legs…

      • 156 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 01:00

I like those beasts–and no, I’m not. (The other day a moth went a flying, and I thought of you. I never did find him.)

      • 157 FictionFan January 30, 2014 at 02:15

(Moths in January? What a hideous concept! Was it wearing six little boots and a woolly hat?)

      • 158 Lady Pinkrose January 30, 2014 at 02:38

Prof, this site is hysterical but I can’t keep up. DANGgummit! And yes I do want to but there are some mighty fast typers here who seem to have a lot of time. Do any of ya wanna come over and give me a helping hand? I got lots to do honest. You won’t be bored. Honest. And my cats would teach you cat. Now how much cooler can that be?

      • 159 FictionFan January 30, 2014 at 02:47

Don’t worry! You’ll soon find that you just give up trying to do anything else and spend your time talking nonsense all day long like the rest of us! Especially Shnoddy…

      • 160 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 14:19

 Do you think you’ve lost you’re mind, FEF?

      • 161 FictionFan January 30, 2014 at 15:03

I certainly seem to have mislaid it…

      • 162 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:13

        Yes, yes, me too.

      • 163 Lady Pinkrose January 30, 2014 at 15:06

Now that sounds like a piece of Heaven to me. IF you knew the “adult” stuff I have in my life every day, plus my blog, your eyes would roll. And being a cat as you are, you’d put your nose in the air, toss your tail, and mumble, “Humans. The lot of ‘um are crazy!”

      • 164 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 14:16

Yes, I think so. I love their woolly hats. The thing we should fear is the Giant Japanese Hornet.

      • 165 FictionFan January 30, 2014 at 14:52

Yeuch! Now, I’m not saying I’d like to meet one of them, but it wouldn’t scare me nearly as much as the moth/daddy-long-legs thingies…

      • 166 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:09

But one stingio and you could die…

      • 167 FictionFan January 31, 2014 at 00:34

        And you’d probably laugh…

      • 168 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 16:02

No, I’d cry for four days and nights.

      • 169 FictionFan January 31, 2014 at 19:47

Well…better than three I suppose…but couldn’t you stretch to five – or six?

      • 170 Professor VJ Duke February 1, 2014 at 00:07

You know the professor would be really upset! (More upset than he is about Bob!)

      • 171 FictionFan February 1, 2014 at 01:17

Oh, C-W-W, no sign of Bob then? I was really hoping you’d just forgotten to tell me he was home. I’m so sorry.

      • 172 Professor VJ Duke February 1, 2014 at 23:46

Thanks, FEF. I’m hoping he’ll return when the weather get nicer, but…I fear he sleeps with the fishes.

      • 173 FictionFan February 2, 2014 at 19:16

You never know with tomcats – I used to have one who disappeared for days at a time quite often. I’ll keep hoping – but it has been a while now. :(

      • 174 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 14:21

I know. Bob actually came to me; he was a stray.

      • 175 FictionFan February 3, 2014 at 17:02

They are a terrible worry, cats. You either have to keep them locked in all their lives, which I think is cruel. Or you let them out and just have to trust they can take care of themselves. I always say I won’t have any more, but I never manage to stick to it.

      • 176 Professor VJ Duke February 3, 2014 at 18:54

Poor Beast…Oh well. At least, FEF hasn’t gone missing. Would be significantly worse.

      • 177 FictionFan February 3, 2014 at 23:12

Aw, C-W-W, you can deny it all you like, but you really are very sweet. :D

      • 178 Professor VJ Duke February 4, 2014 at 00:12

        And romantic.

      • 179 FictionFan February 4, 2014 at 01:53

Well, now that you mention it…

      • 180 Professor VJ Duke February 4, 2014 at 21:16

        Yes?

      • 181 Lady Pinkrose February 4, 2014 at 21:32

JUMPING IN and having NO IDEA where this thread is at! LOL This site is a riot! Prof Frown you do know I Love you, right? Tis true *blush* I must just blurt it out before I bust. OMgosh! I said it, there, I just said it. I feel like swooning. *blush*

      • 182 Professor VJ Duke February 4, 2014 at 21:42

        You do???

      • 183 Lady Pinkrose February 4, 2014 at 22:03

Must you drag it out of me again? I just can’t resist a man in a tophat. I’m done for. I admit. It’s all over for me. I held out for that moment when I met a man in a tophat. Oh goodness me. I do hope this passes for I can’t concentrate. All I can think of is a tophat with a squrrel sitting on top of that. I’ve got it bad. I will admit. I don’t know what to do. Do you?

      • 184 Professor VJ Duke February 4, 2014 at 22:30

Well…how do you picture the professor?

      • 185 Lady Pinkrose February 4, 2014 at 23:44

You are torturing me. Drooling running down chin……tophats…..coattails…..black and white like a penguin….that’s it! A penquin. Waddling with a walking cane. Tophat, blacktails, white starched shirt, black bow tie…..and a black cane…….My dream man!!! Come true to life!!!

      • 186 Professor VJ Duke February 5, 2014 at 01:06

Did you say the professor was drooling?

      • 187 Lady Pinkrose February 4, 2014 at 22:09

Now I have to go to work on tomorrow’s posts. So if you don’t see me again for a while, you know why. And they will BE awesome!!

      • 188 Professor VJ Duke February 4, 2014 at 22:32

        Looking forward! Happy o’writing!

      • 189 FictionFan February 5, 2014 at 02:22

        Yes.

      • 190 Professor VJ Duke February 5, 2014 at 19:35

        What a professorish response, dadblameit.

  12. 191 portergirl January 29, 2014 at 15:45

Afraid of The Professor? Me? No. But then, I’m not afraid of the unknown, either. I am very fond of The Professor, as you well know :)

    • 192 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:12

:D Thanks, Lucy. You’re very brave–and you need to be at Old College and all!

      • 193 PorterGirl January 29, 2014 at 19:17

I know!! Hey, there’s an online interview with me talking about Old College, you know. I have a feeling that The Dean might be finding out about my blog any day now… eek! That frightens me a little bit :)

      • 194 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:20

I did not know! Where is it?

 That would so fun! Just tell him the professor likes it!

      • 195 PorterGirl January 29, 2014 at 19:22

        http://cambridge.tab.co.uk/2014/01/29/tab-meets-portergirl/

Here it is! At least they didn’t actually use my picture. I am sure The Dean will see the funny side :)

      • 196 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:50

 Very nice! I like it. :)

  13. 197 L. Marie January 29, 2014 at 15:20

Lovely photos. I’ve been getting a ton of snow too. I love fresh fallen snow, especially at night, because it sparkles in the streetlights.

    • 198 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:11

The professor must agree. It’s beautiful.

  14. 199 Lady Pinkrose January 29, 2014 at 15:14

Holy Smoly, I just caught something. You like the snow even when the sun comes out? OMG? Are you trying to say in your Professorish way, you are actually a vampire? This I cannot believe! My heart would never say “This man is lovable” and here it turns out that if I am out at night you would grab me and drink my blood? Shudder. OHHHHHHH! Wahhhhhhh! Now I am scared. Where’s my teddy? MOMMY! There is a boogyman under my bed!

    • 200 Lady Pinkrose January 29, 2014 at 15:37

And now I am really scared. I just said there is no fear and here I am clutching a teddy? Professor, what are you doing to me? I just made a liar out of myself.

      • 201 Lady Pinkrose January 29, 2014 at 16:22

I had a L O N G talk with me. Nope. I am going with my heart. If my heart says the Prof is OK, that is as good as it gets. Silly fear. It is only what we have been taught. Blubbering blab that is only what fear is.

      • 202 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:14

Yes, yes. The professor is too sweet in reality. But he’s very unromantic.

      • 203 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:11

No, no. I think all’s fine.

    • 204 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:10

Oh dear no! The professor isn’t any sort of dark beast, you know.

      • 205 Lady Pinkrose January 29, 2014 at 19:21

I must say something punchy as I am out the door in this frigid air to go to the gym. AM I NUTS? Where is that squirrel? He’s gotten to me. Now I am thinking NUTS. All for the treadmill. Brrrrrr………Here I go.

Glad to hear you are not a beast. I knew that. That was just my teddy talking not me. He hijacked the keyboard. That’s all.

MUAH! Bye! I hope not to be frozen in a pile of snow. Here I go…….

      • 206 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:47

        Think cashews. That should help.

Teddy bears are so wicked at times.

        Good lucketh!

      • 207 Lady Pinkrose January 30, 2014 at 00:55

I had a speakin’ to that teddy and told him never NEVER hijack my keyboard again. It was bad enough I was a fool and went out driving in this nightmare of ice and snow. And I didn’t do that treadmill after all but a full body workout in less then one hour. Yep, that crack squirrel got to me and I MOVED. Yep. True.

I’ll take that tip and think cashews. No more NUTS cause I just aint. Plain and simple.

Now really, Prof, I am tryin so hard to get through my emails and here you are popping up everywhere. How do you KNOW I am on the computer? I swear whenever I am here you are. You must be psychic. Or sometin.

      • 208 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 01:08

        Shoot the dadblame thing. :)

        That’s the spirit!

The professor is very professorish–that’s all I can say.

      • 209 Lady Pinkrose January 30, 2014 at 02:46

But I don’t have a gun and I don’t believe in violence. Do you think I could tie him to my bed and that would be humane? With my luck, one of my cats will come along and chew the chord that I tied him up with to free him. The darn conspiracy never ends around here.

I’ll put him in a closet and put a lock on the door. That should do it. But no guns. String him up by the leg to my ceiling fan? Huh. I gotta think about this.

        Hehehehehehehe

      • 210 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 14:18

Then you must tie the cats to the bed as well.

        Yes, perfect!

  15. 211 Alastair Savage January 29, 2014 at 14:51

    Scared … very scared.

    • 212 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:10

:D Is it because of my katana?

      • 213 Alastair Savage January 29, 2014 at 19:20

It is the wakizashi that I fear the most.

      • 214 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:20

        Over a katana? Why so?

      • 215 Alastair Savage January 29, 2014 at 19:26

It’s that left-right combination that’s so disturbing. By the way, while we’re chatting about things from the Floating World have you read I am a cat by Soseki Natsume? I love that book.

      • 216 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:52

        No! What’s it about?

      • 217 Alastair Savage January 30, 2014 at 07:30

It’s about a provincial schoolmaster who’s a bit of a drunkard and his life as seen through the eyes of his cat. It’s very funny and a book that stays with you for a long time. I should blog on it some time.

      • 218 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 14:19

Definitely blog about it! I love comedy books.

  16. 219 walt walker January 29, 2014 at 14:49

I am absolutely terrified of you. But I visit your site anyway because I believe in facing my fear. I’m usually okay so long as I have my blankie with me.

    • 220 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:10

:D The professor is very proud about this you know.

Tell me, what is frightening about me?

  17. 221 floridaborne January 29, 2014 at 14:38

…they’re afraid only if they don’t have a son who is a professor. :-)

Nice blog. Just pushed the “punchy” button for notices of new posts.

    • 222 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:09

 So you’re used to dealing with professors?

      Many thanks!

      • 223 floridaborne January 29, 2014 at 19:46

For several years. He’s an amazing professor, very engaging in the classroom. But he’s still my son. :-)

      • 224 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:52

        Is he professorish?

      • 225 floridaborne January 30, 2014 at 01:03

        Very stereotypical.

      • 226 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 01:09

        Does he like dadblamery?

      • 227 floridaborne January 30, 2014 at 02:12

Would Star Trek fit into that category? :-)

      • 228 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 14:16

        Yes!

  18. 229 Brooke Thompson January 29, 2014 at 14:34

    Afraid, NO. Intrigued, YES!!

    • 230 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:09

Not even the tiniest bit afraid?

      • 231 Brooke Thompson January 30, 2014 at 14:59

        Maybe a smidge.

      • 232 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:11

        Especially when I run riot.

      • 233 Brooke Thompson January 31, 2014 at 01:14

        <3

      • 234 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 16:04

        Ooo, what’s that mean?

  19. 235 Tonia January 29, 2014 at 14:25

i enjoyed the pictures. will you build a snowboy?

    • 236 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:09

      Over a snowman?

  20. 237 Julie Harris January 29, 2014 at 14:24

Beautiful pictures! Stay warm and enjoy!

    • 238 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:09

Thanks many! :) I’ll try… Are you afraid of the professor?

  21. 239 Tonia January 29, 2014 at 14:24

i have to agree with Nick. I am afraid of everything myself..and my shadow..there IS a darkside in all of us, after all… :)

    • 240 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:08

I know what you mean. Shadows are scary. Even the professor?

  22. 241 Morgan January 29, 2014 at 14:19

I always enjoy a good blather, particularly when it involves snow :)

    • 242 Lady Pinkrose January 29, 2014 at 15:15

OH YAY Morgan is here. Now be warned. Morgan is the Queen of words. Watch out for this one. You won’t be able to get a word in edgewise.

      • 243 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:11

I like when that happens. The professor just sits and smiles.

      • 244 Morgan January 29, 2014 at 19:43

Whatever could you mean ? (as I blink innocently under my eyelids ) Me? Talk too much? Write too much? never! …well, ok …maybe sometimes, but in all honesty….

HA :) Yep, You Right, You Right!

      • 245 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:52

The professor won’t mind, you know.

      • 246 Morgan January 30, 2014 at 03:28

        good thing :)

      • 247 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 14:19

But is the professor a good thing?

      • 248 Morgan January 30, 2014 at 14:59

That, Professor, you need to Tell ME ;)

      • 249 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 21:11

Ooo, I think so! What do you think?

    • 250 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:07

      Even a professorish blather?

      • 251 Morgan January 29, 2014 at 20:18

dependent upon the topic, yes, even then :)

      • 252 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:55

Well I thank you from the depths of my professorish heart.

  23. 253 The Dancing Rider January 29, 2014 at 14:07

Nah, not afraid of the professor. But you are definitely a type of unknown, which is vexing in a good way! ;)

    • 254 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:07

Well, that’s good. I mean, I’d like to be scary and all.

      • 255 The Dancing Rider January 29, 2014 at 22:41

        Really? You would? :/

      • 256 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:59

Well, wouldn’t it add to my viciousness?

      • 257 The Dancing Rider January 31, 2014 at 14:16

Why, yes, but …. I’m not sure you are vicious. Erm, maybe once in a while?

      • 258 Professor VJ Duke January 31, 2014 at 16:06

Would it be better to be a hero?

      • 259 The Dancing Rider January 31, 2014 at 21:05

I think they both have drawbacks. I think it is better to just be the professor. :)

      • 260 Professor VJ Duke February 1, 2014 at 00:12

        Okay! Thanks, DR! :)

  24. 261 Lady Pinkrose January 29, 2014 at 13:52

I have snow too but it is so bummertilt cold outside even the schools are closed.

Ah, I for one am not afraid of the Professor. I must admit, at first I didn’t know how to take the Professor. And then I “saw” the heart, and the heart never lies.

So you see, you can’t hide much from me, Prof Frown. By the way did you receive the just cherry cake I sent to you last night? It should have arrived with ribbons and balloons.

Hey, Anja, I posted the one I said I would and I wrote (Thank you, Anja) underneathe. For it is out of our conversation that the words were born, so again, I do thank you. And we girls are afraid of nothin’! We know fear is only a phantom that lurks in man’s minds. Right?

      Love that word!

      What does the heart say?

It’s gone; It twas very good. Thanks, LadyP! :)

      And the professor.

    • 266 Professor VJ Duke January 29, 2014 at 19:06

Nice! I’d love to see some. Can’t imagine it snowing in NC!

Of course you shouldn’t be, since you’re the keeper of my mind.

Wouldn’t you be scared of snow if an avalanche was coming?

      • 267 Anja January 29, 2014 at 19:24

I just posted some pictures of the snow on twitter…will blog some later :)

Yes…an avalanche would be rather scary especially since I have to be cold.

      • 268 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 00:51

        Greateth great.

Unless you’re buried under the snow. That’d keep you warm.

      • 269 Anja January 30, 2014 at 00:53

I am not too sure being buried under snow makes you warm.

      • 270 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 01:04

Think of it as a blanket.

      • 271 Anja January 30, 2014 at 01:05

      • 272 Professor VJ Duke January 30, 2014 at 01:10
