Section A. Punchy Proverbs:

V. Shnodgrate returned this week—thankfully. However, for revenge—because he left this professor without proverbs last week—I only let him do one proverb.

Proverb #1 is by dear Susan. An awesome proverb. (I think V. Shnodgrate secretly liked it.) Definitely check out Susan’s blog if you haven’t. She’s a great lady.

And—the last proverb is by the professor.

Subject: Laughter.

(1) When someone is being obnoxious and trying to pick a fight, laugh at him/her. It shuts up the heckler and gives your cardiovascular system a good exercise. ~ Susan P

(2) To laugh is to live. To cry, to exist. ~ V. Shnodgrate

(3) Please never—ever—laugh the poor professor to scorn. ~ Professor VJ Duke

Section B. The professor speaks:

The professor has a Fender Stratocaster in his office. I like to call it my battle axe.

***

Section C. What the PL’ers have to say:

A short conversation:

RUBER SALAMI: Where’s that hoe I like using for me beets?

JULLIARD SALAMI (his cousin): Beats me.

RUBER: You think you’re clever, don’t you? Well, you’re as stupid as…as…a beet!

JULLIARD: Did you know ‘Ruber’ is the antonym for sophisticated?

RUBER: I’m going to crash you skull in!

JULLIARD: With the hoe?

***

Section D. Breaking News:
by J. Freedwoppen

Smiles Riot was apprehended and returned forthwith to Crackjaw. Rumor has it that Boris the Green is on his way. Smiles Riot may cry out in the night.

Section E. Hearing from the PL Family:

PL family, if you have any questions about the Punchy Lands, characters, or anything Punchy, feel free to comment below.

The Punchy Times principal reporter, J. Freedwoppen, would be more than glad to cover or investigate your query. (Make sure to clearly indicate your question for Mr. Freedwoppen.)

Excellent proverb, Susan! (2) is a bit… I don’t know… it made me think for a bit what it means…

How nice! A strat! Does the professor play it in the office when he gets bored sometimes?

Lol, Julliard is one cheeky fella.

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2014 at 14:50

It’s still making the professor think. :)

      Sometimes, yes. :D

      He sure is!

  2. 3 The Dancing Rider February 18, 2014 at 21:24

I like all the proverbs this week. Thank you, Susan! :) I think it was appropriate to allow Shnodgrate only one… The third is my favorite, though.

    Love your AXE!

I need to knock all Salami-ite head together. What a conversation! ;-)

Why do I feel sorry for Smiles Riot?????

I do have a Punchy question: “V” J Duke and “V” Shnodgrate. Any relationship there?

    • 4 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 23:55

Susan’s was great. But poor Shnoddy…

      Thanks, DR!

 Ruber would probably win out, though.

I do too. What can be done about it?

      The professor will ask!

      • 5 The Dancing Rider February 19, 2014 at 00:25

Well, just remain feeling sorry for him I guess…. :/

      • 6 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2014 at 13:15

Smiles is a sly sort of creature.

  3. 7 Sonya Solomonovich February 18, 2014 at 20:25

At last I’ve caught up with all the punchy news… Please tell Mr. Freedwhoppen I’d like to start a petition to free Smiles Riot!

    • 8 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 23:49

Hi, Sonya! The professor’s missed you. How have you been?

I’ll get the request to Mr. F immediately. Do you like Smiles?

      • 9 Sonya Solomonovich February 19, 2014 at 18:46

I’ve missed you too, professor. I’m doing very well, thanks for asking. In Arizona now. I’m on a break from writing at the moment so I don’t know when I’ll post my next blog entry but I will still keep in touch with the punchy lands.

Thanks, I do like Smiles. I think he’s a misunderstood genius.

      • 10 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2014 at 20:58

Definitely nice to have you back! Enjoy your time in Arizona. The professor is stuck in snow here. Yucketh!

Yes! That’s so right. We must tell the PL now…

  4. 11 bardictale February 18, 2014 at 18:35

I like the second, although the third and first are very good advice.

    • 12 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 19:52

      Especially the third, right? :)

      • 13 bardictale February 19, 2014 at 04:50

        Yup.

      • 14 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2014 at 13:19

*nods and then winks a bit*

      • 15 bardictale February 19, 2014 at 17:32

*laughs and offers a cup of blackberry tea*

      • 16 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2014 at 20:48

Oh! I’ll take it. Is it tasty?

      • 17 bardictale February 20, 2014 at 11:14

Mamen loves it, as does Critter R, so it must be.

      • 18 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 14:39

        Then I accept!

  5. 19 Jackie February 17, 2014 at 20:29

Susan’s proverb is the best I think! Professor you sure are full of surprises. Any chance we will hear you play your Stratocaster? I mean, I assume you play. Am I wrong in my assumption?

    • 20 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:42

Well…no, the professor plays. If I’m completely honest, the professor is a trained classical guitarist…maybe…

      • 21 Jackie February 17, 2014 at 21:43

You don’t sound to sure about that. Classical guitar is very difficult to play!

      • 22 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:47

It is! A lot of time and training. (The professor must stay an enigma, you see.) The Concierto de Aranjuez is tough, but beautiful. Lot of scale work.

      • 23 Jackie February 17, 2014 at 21:48

You’re secret is safe with me! I don’t want to ruin your status as an enigma.

      • 24 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 02:28

:D Thanks, Jackie. In truth the professor is an open book.

      • 25 Jackie February 18, 2014 at 03:05

        The Professor is a dichotomy!

      • 26 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 19:41

Yes! What a cool word. :)

      • 27 Jackie February 18, 2014 at 20:17

        8-)

  6. 28 weggieboy February 17, 2014 at 17:48

Section B: I can use my vocal skills to the same end! Perhaps we should form a forgotten band!

    • 29 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:41

      Humph noodles. Maybe we should!

  7. 30 Debbie February 17, 2014 at 16:21

Professor, I’m impressed — you have wonderful taste in electric guitars! I didn’t realize you played.
As for the proverbs, part of me thinks Susan’s might be tempting fate. I mean, the heckler very well might become offended and punch you in the nose!
Nor can I see myself laughing the Professor to scorn.
As for #2, yes, I’m inclined to agree with Schnodgrate. Of course, not ALL of life is a joke, but laughing (when appropriate) feels so good while crying (usually) doesn’t.

    • 31 Susan P February 17, 2014 at 16:44

The trick of the proverb is what I call the “deliver and keep on walking” method. One can cover a good deal of ground while the recipient is still trying to figure out if it is a compliment or not. (With apologies to JRR Tolkien.)

      • 32 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:40

        Hmm…that sounds nice. (Why?)

      • 33 Susan P February 18, 2014 at 02:18

By the time the person works out what I have said I’m in the next state.

      • 34 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 02:46

Which is a cool way to do things, for sure.

      • 35 Susan P February 18, 2014 at 14:24

Yep. Unless one has a very large snow removal machine.

      • 36 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 19:48

 I wonder where he got it from.

      • 37 Susan P February 19, 2014 at 18:16

Wherever it came from I would bet on some interesting negotiations in the process.

      • 38 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2014 at 20:55

 I’m sure you’re right. DS is such a brute.

      • 39 Susan P February 20, 2014 at 18:47

He’s nothing of the sort. Boys will be boys, you know?

      • 40 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 23:02

        What about girls?

      • 41 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 13:46

        What about girls?

      • 42 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 15:27

Well, everyone is always talking about boys being boys. Tell me about the girls.

      • 43 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 18:00

Trust me on this. You do not want to know. I know some really awesome women, but have no patience with the games that some women play.

      • 44 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 20:52

Okay, I’ll trust you. I suppose it’s better for me to be ignorant of such games. :D

      • 45 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 21:12

You are wiser than you know. :D If I were to tell you about them, you would be a much sadder Professor.

      • 46 Professor VJ Duke February 22, 2014 at 01:09

I will trust in your knowledge!

      • 47 Susan P February 22, 2014 at 16:59

        ‘nods thoughtfully’

      • 48 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2014 at 14:42

        sigh

      • 49 Susan P February 24, 2014 at 14:49

        Why the sigh?

      • 50 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2014 at 15:06

Because, I wish I could do what you did.

      • 51 Susan P February 24, 2014 at 19:03

        What? Trust in your wisdom?

      • 52 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2014 at 21:35

        Yes. :D Right?

      • 53 Susan P February 24, 2014 at 21:37

I’m willing to take a chance on that.

      • 54 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2014 at 22:39

        I’m not!

      • 55 Susan P February 25, 2014 at 13:19

You went to that dadblamed birthday party and you aren’t willing to take a chance? Really?

      • 56 Professor VJ Duke February 25, 2014 at 18:04

        Well, if you insist!

      • 57 Susan P February 25, 2014 at 23:20

        Aye! I do.

      • 58 Professor VJ Duke February 26, 2014 at 00:37

        Okay!

      • 59 Susan P February 26, 2014 at 02:36

        It’s all good now then.

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke February 26, 2014 at 18:12

        We hope so.

      • 61 Susan P February 26, 2014 at 19:12

        But one never knows.

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke February 27, 2014 at 02:12

The professor knows most things at different times that come infrequently.

      • 63 Susan P February 27, 2014 at 02:32

I can totally relate to that. And some days I have it on the tip of my tongue and accidently swallow it.

      • 64 Professor VJ Duke February 27, 2014 at 17:43

        Yes, which is a bummer.

      • 65 Susan P February 27, 2014 at 22:33

        More like a drummer.

      • 66 Professor VJ Duke February 28, 2014 at 01:24

        I must know why!

      • 67 Susan P February 28, 2014 at 17:52

Prolly because I have a hard time sitting still for long.

      • 68 Professor VJ Duke March 1, 2014 at 16:18

        Me too.

      • 69 Susan P March 1, 2014 at 21:41

        That’s encouraging. I think. :D

      • 70 Professor VJ Duke March 2, 2014 at 23:04

        :D

    • 71 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:39

Well–I do a bit, bits and little bits. Do you play?

Or you could bite the hand that punches… (Thanks, Debbie. :) )

Yes, crying doesn’t. Though, interestingly, crying does–medically–relieve stress, so it sort of feels good.

      • 72 Debbie February 17, 2014 at 22:17

I only play at it; my son plays (quite well, in my prejudiced opinion!).

Hmmm, biting the hand that punches — hadn’t thought of that. Might wind up with no teeth if the heckler aims for the face!

You’re right — sometimes all that’s needed is a good cry.

      • 73 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 02:30

I’m sure he is! Does he play acoustic?

 The professor’s plan is dadblamery. I admit it!

Very true. Or to hack at a tree with a katana.

  8. 74 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 17, 2014 at 16:20

That’s right, professor, show him. :)
I agree with Susan!! It is much more fun, too. I like Susan’s proverb the best, because she is so helpful and wise.
My feelings on #2 – Boy, don’t I know it. I put all my eggs in that laugh to live basket…I’m currently looking for that basket.
#3 – Okay. 24/7? I wait a long time for a professor proverb and this is what I get? Dadblamery!!! Duketh!!! I will seek revenge on you.

The professor is a tease. *Aud walks off a cliff* (Fender Stratocaster!!!)

    Kick his butt, Ruber.

    Smiles needs a blanket.

    • 75 Susan P February 17, 2014 at 16:44

The Smiling Person does need a blanket! Good thinking.

      • 76 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 17, 2014 at 16:55

        Why thank you, Susan. :)

      • 77 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:40

        Is that the professor?

      • 78 Susan P February 18, 2014 at 02:18

The Professor claims that he is not Smiles. At least he did last week. But sometimes he might get confused.

      • 79 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 02:47

The professor never gets confused. He’s the most ordered of his species.

      • 80 Susan P February 18, 2014 at 14:24

Does it really matter as long as everyone stays warm?

      • 81 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 19:49

Oh dear. You might be sounding like Smiles Riot…

      • 82 Susan P February 19, 2014 at 18:16

I do not receive that condemnation. ;)

      • 83 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2014 at 20:55

        Haha…then where does it go?

      • 84 Susan P February 20, 2014 at 18:50

It bounces back to the originator.

      • 85 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 23:02

        I’ll take it! :D

      • 86 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 13:47

        There you are, then. :D

      • 87 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 15:27

        I’m nowhere now!

      • 88 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 18:00

I live a half mile from the middle of nowhere. Where do you live?

      • 89 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 20:53

Half a mile in the other direction?

      • 90 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 21:12

I’m not sure – I’m half a mile north of the middle of nowhere.

      • 91 Professor VJ Duke February 22, 2014 at 01:10

        Malediction, I’m lost!

      • 92 Susan P February 22, 2014 at 16:59

You should ask Bethy about getting lost in this neck of the woods.

      • 93 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2014 at 14:42

        Is it horrid?

      • 94 Susan P February 24, 2014 at 14:50

Just very confusing. So many roads seem to come to an end, and then you find them somewhere else.

      • 95 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2014 at 15:06

        That’s true…

      • 96 Susan P February 24, 2014 at 19:03

        It’s dadblame punchy, that’s what.

      • 97 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2014 at 21:36

        I love Punchy things.

      • 98 Susan P February 24, 2014 at 21:37

It doesn’t seem like I should, but I do. :D

      • 99 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2014 at 22:40

        Why wouldn’t you? :)

      • 100 Susan P February 25, 2014 at 13:20

        That’s a good question. It’s lotsa fun.

      • 101 Professor VJ Duke February 25, 2014 at 18:05

        :D

    • 102 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:37

      Show who?

She is definitely! (Way wiser than the professor, you know.)

 That’s the best basket, isn’t it?

What? You don’t like it???? Seek revenge? Whatever for? (I’m horrible at writing proverbs.)

      You don’t believe me?

 Audith! I think he will. The smash comes next. Do you like Ruber better?

      And a cookie.

      • 103 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 17, 2014 at 22:54

Shonddy, that’s who. Who do you think?

Oh, yes Susan being smarter I can see, Duke. Although…she can be smarter. I cannot be righter??

Yes, it is a beautiful basket.

Umm, well it isn’t very clever, as we all know you do not like to be laughed to scorn. I don’t need my imagination to help determine that, professor. Yes, revenge. (I will never believe this of you, Duketh.)

Oh, nothing surprises me anymore with you. I’m at a loss. How many guitar conversations have we had..? No mention. Nice, Duke!!! *again, off a cliff*

 He should. Yes, between the two, I do.

A cookie? One of my cookies? What has he done to deserve one of those, pray tell? ?

      • 104 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 02:34

Oh! I see. My mind… Yes, I sure did!

Well…the professor is more smarter and more righter every time.

        Not beautiful…warrior-ish.

I’m sorry, but isn’t it clever in a professorish way? (Believe what?)

A lot…it would surprise you if you knew who the professor really was. That’s for sure. But that’s a professorish joke for some other day in the not too distant future.

        I like Ruby, too.

 Well–give it to the dragon instead.

      • 105 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 18, 2014 at 05:24

Smarter and righter…blasted egos. I’m not poking that bear, but WHATEVER.

Warrior-ish may be what yours looks like, but mine is beautiful.

Yes, clever being your middle name. ( That you are not a good proverb writer.)

Well la tee da. Laugh about your professorish joke now, professor.

        Okay fine.

      • 106 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 19:43

The professor is a dragon not a bear.

Warrior-ish is bettered than beautiful, Audith.

No, wicked is. (That’s really hurtful… )

        That’s what MM calls him.

        :D

      • 107 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 18, 2014 at 20:33

        Don’t I know it!!

Why are you fighting me on everything? BEATUIFUL, Duketh.

I’m beginning to believe that you couldn’t be more righter about that. (What is hurtful? I just said I would never believe that you couldn’t write an amazing proverb. I think I’m beginning to understand what being laughed to scorn feels like, Duke.)

MM has the best nicknames for people.

Have another cookie. I don’t want mine. You’re mean. ;)

      • 108 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 23:52

        Maybe you don’t…

        I’ll surrender when I win.

        (Oh…I’m confused now!)

He sure does. None for the professor just yet.

        I don’t want it! I want a new one!

      • 109 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 19, 2014 at 00:37

Are you trying to make me curse, Duke?

You will never win, my friend.

        (See…how does it feel?)

Why not. You of all people should have one.

Mean boys get the broken cookies. Freshly baked? Hmm…

      • 110 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2014 at 13:17

I’d like to hear a ‘dadblameit’, yes. :)

        Well…maybe.

(I feel it all the time, you know.)

I’ll have to ask him. It will probably be something like, “Professor Baby.”

        I’m wicked not mean. Fresh baked… :D

      • 111 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 19, 2014 at 14:54

Dadblameit, dadblameit, dadblameit! Your wish is my command. That cleared out the ole pipes. :D

        Don’t give up, Duketh.

(I see you that you do…)

I think I should call you that. ;) Yes, actually he has called you that, if I recall correctly.

You are a lot of things, Duke. :)
By the time they get to you they will no longer be fresh baked. I shall professorishly try!

      • 112 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2014 at 20:43

        Beautifully done, Audith!

Okay, then. But I still might.

        (And hear…)

        I don’t remember! It’s dadblamery I tell you.

And few things at the same time.

        Then it will probably fail…

      • 113 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 19, 2014 at 22:21

        Ahh. Are you sad today?

        I hope it doesn’t fail. :(

      • 114 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 14:29

        No, why?

        Well…

      • 115 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 20, 2014 at 20:35

Must have just been my mistake.

Well? Not everything professorish fails, Duke. I’m right. Say it…

      • 116 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 23:08

        It was!

        You’re right…

      • 117 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 21, 2014 at 04:05

        *Audith faints*

      • 118 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 15:18

        I take it back!

      • 119 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 21, 2014 at 21:04

NO! That’s my “You’re right” and you can’t have it back. Just help me up…

      • 120 Professor VJ Duke February 22, 2014 at 01:02

Okay, I will. And…I shan’t think about it!

      • 121 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 22, 2014 at 04:16

        :)

  9. 122 FictionFan February 17, 2014 at 16:19

Thank goodness you’ve finally got a woman doing proverbs – at last we might get some sense! No 1 wins. Shnoddy really needs to look on the bright side occasionally. Who would ever laugh the Professor to scorn?

    Some kind of spaceship?

    Julliard won that round.

Poor Smiles! Be careful if you visit him – it would be awful if they wouldn’t let you back out…

    • 123 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:35

Maybe–in the future–Mrs. Shnodgrate will do a few, then. I agree with you, FEF. #1 is the best. (It happens to me all the time.)

      A strat?!!!!!!!!!

Ruber will probably smash him next.

      You wouldn’t care!

      • 124 FictionFan February 18, 2014 at 15:18

What a horrifying thought! Shnoddy married!! Poor woman!!! Imagine the dinner-table conversation…

I’d like to hear the Professor play someday.

        Ruber’s all talk!

How can you say that? Of course I would! Especially if it was on a Friday!

      • 125 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 19:50

 I think it’s really the other way around…

        Play what?

        Oh no he’s not!

        Very wicked.

      • 126 FictionFan February 19, 2014 at 00:59

Oh no! You mean they’re both befuddled old fools? I do hope they don’t have children.

Monopoly. (OK I meant the guitar really.)

He’s the most unsuccessful mass murderer in the history of the universe.

Mind you, so long as Mic was free, I suppose…

      • 127 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2014 at 13:19

What makes you think they’re old?

The professor is good at Monopoly–especially the junior one. :D

 He only murders every so often, does that make him a serial killer?

Mic is a very busy man.

      • 128 FictionFan February 19, 2014 at 23:37

Because it must take a long time to get that miserable surely.

I’ll take that as a no, then.

If he poisoned the porridge, he’d be a cereal killer.

Nonsense! He only works on Fridays…

      • 129 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 14:34

        But he’s not!

Well…you maybe already sort of have…and then…well you will!

 Very witty, FEF. I like that lots. :D

Only?! It takes a lot of time!

      • 130 FictionFan February 20, 2014 at 15:41

So…he just passes out miserable proverbs and then goes off to be the life of the party? That’s just mean…

        OK.

        :D

Poor man! You should really help him out more then…

      • 131 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 18:06

        I thought you liked mean.

        The professor tries…

      • 132 FictionFan February 20, 2014 at 19:46

Mean and wicked, yes! But Shnoddy’s not wicked…just mean and befuddled…

        Poor Mic!

      • 133 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 23:05

        But…well…isn’t the professor befuddled?

      • 134 FictionFan February 21, 2014 at 01:45

I don’t know – the Professor befuddles me so much that for all I know he could be making perfect sense in a different reality…

      • 135 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 15:15

 Whenever I befuddle you, let me know. I’ll clear things up faster than a tortoise.

      • 136 FictionFan February 21, 2014 at 18:40

OK, from now on I’ll use a befuddled face :???: Now you must come up with a tortoise face…

      • 137 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 20:56

No, no. When you use that face. I’ll explain. How’s that?

      • 138 FictionFan February 21, 2014 at 23:53

That sounds remarkably like the reply of someone who can’t come up with a tortoise face…

      • 139 Professor VJ Duke February 22, 2014 at 01:15

        Well, I can’t! I didn’t try, but I know I can’t.

  10. 140 Bethy February 17, 2014 at 14:11

I like all three proverbs. I don’t know that I could chose a favorite.

Do you think Ruber would give me some of his beets? I do like eating them so much! That conversation made me laugh!

Poor Smiles! I do like him being escaped!

    • 141 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:34

But you must! (Your mom’s is the best.)

      :D Beets…cooked?

He’s an odd one. Maybe I’ll go get him again…

      • 142 Bethy February 20, 2014 at 13:52

I think they are all good! (Yes, I have to agree my mom is a great proverb writer!)

Well beets don’t usually come out of the ground cooked, but I do love them roasted. I also like the beet greens cooked or in a salad.

What?!? You mean you originally helped Smiles escape???

      • 143 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 14:42

She sure is! Better than the professor.

Ah, so one can eat the greens, then?

Well…sort of… :) Was it horribly wicked of me?

      • 144 Bethy February 20, 2014 at 14:57

Of course! I think my favorite preparation of the greens was when I put them in my favorite soup. However, they are also quite tasty sauteed with garlic and onion.

Well…he is your cousin. It probably wasn’t outrageously wicked of you…I mean you can’t really leave your cousin crying right?

      • 145 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 18:02

That does sound good…like a wedding soup?

Well, that’s not what bothered me. I wanted to see what was in the box.

      • 146 Bethy February 21, 2014 at 13:55

Probably a wedding soup would taste good too. I was thinking of the Portuguese soup that my mom has on her blog though.

Ah…curiosity will do it every time!

      • 147 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 15:31

        That does sound good.

        Curiosity…

      • 148 Bethy February 23, 2014 at 22:44

Why does curiosity make you sad?

      • 149 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2014 at 14:54

        Because I hate being curious!

      • 150 Bethy February 24, 2014 at 15:17

        Really? Why is that?

      • 151 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2014 at 21:21

Well I never get answers, you see.

      • 152 Bethy February 25, 2014 at 15:32

Rats and a Heifer. That would make me sad also. In fact, it does make me sad :(

      • 153 Professor VJ Duke February 25, 2014 at 18:17

Do you feel sorry for the professorish one?

      • 154 Bethy February 25, 2014 at 19:46

I do! To never have any answers. Just think if you had a 4 yr old around. Everything would get crazy with the 300 plus questions that were floating around without answers EVERY DAY!

      • 155 Professor VJ Duke February 26, 2014 at 00:26

Does Princess ask a lot of questions? :)

      • 156 Bethy February 27, 2014 at 11:31

Oh my. She never stops talking from the time she gets up to the time she goes to bed and probably 80 to 90 percent of that is questions. Sometimes, we have a no question zone established because I just don’t talk that much. I am super thankful for preschool teachers who answer questions for 3 hours a day!

      • 157 Professor VJ Duke February 27, 2014 at 18:09

I really can’t relate, but I’m sure the questions will abate with time.

      • 158 Bethy February 27, 2014 at 20:50

I’m sure. There will probably come a time when I will just wish she would talk to me :)

      • 159 Professor VJ Duke February 28, 2014 at 01:12

Oh I’m sure she’ll always talk. At least, I think so. Girls like to do that sort of thing.

      • 160 Bethy February 28, 2014 at 14:23

Most are rather skilled in that area I’ve noticed. I like to be quiet though. I know my husband said when he first met me he was worried that I would never say anything.

      • 161 Professor VJ Duke February 28, 2014 at 16:21

The professor is usually deep in thought about nothing.

  11. 162 ladycheetah7 February 17, 2014 at 14:01

PVJ. I must say, that was quite wicked of you to give Schnodgate one proverb. Therefore, I crown you Wicked King.

    Chop…chop. On to the proverbs.

Of course Susan’s was great and I agree whole heartedly great lady she is. Many times I have benefited from her wisdom.

Schnodgate’s proverb was good but I must say your proverb is the winner this week for three reasons:
    1. You called it a proverb, a wise saying to live by. Really?
    2. It made me laugh.
    3. The unintended (?) duplicity of being a nice guy while all along you have a battle ax in your office. That is totally Criminal Minds (LOL!).

    • 163 Susan P February 17, 2014 at 17:11

Did you mean, “sweet and wicked?”

      • 164 ladycheetah7 February 17, 2014 at 17:23

        How about “wickedly sweet?”

      • 165 Susan P February 17, 2014 at 17:40

Girl, I like the way you think! :D

      • 166 ladycheetah7 February 17, 2014 at 17:45

        ;-)

      • 167 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:41

Why are we making fun of the poor, helpless, distraught, fundamentally flawed professor?

      • 168 ladycheetah7 February 17, 2014 at 21:48

        Wow! Really????

      • 169 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 02:28

        Really absolutely yes, madam!

      • 170 ladycheetah7 February 18, 2014 at 11:52

As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.

      • 171 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 19:44

But as the professor thinketh so he is not.

    • 172 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:33

Wicked King kinda sounds nice…but didn’t he deserve it?

      Me too.

  OF course it’s a wise saying to live by! Isn’t it?

Every professor is allowed to have a battle axe!

  12. 173 Susan P February 17, 2014 at 13:31

and a good Monday morning to you, Professor.

    • 174 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:25

You too, too! Although, it’s afternoon now.

      • 175 Susan P February 18, 2014 at 02:12

        It’s always morning somewhere….

      • 176 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 02:40

Which is true, but very unprofessorish.

      • 177 Susan P February 18, 2014 at 14:18

Time and space only exist to keep us from losing our minds.

      • 178 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 19:45

        Interesting professorish thought there…

      • 179 Susan P February 19, 2014 at 18:12

        Is that a compliment?

      • 180 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2014 at 20:51

        Is the professor a compliment?

      • 181 Susan P February 20, 2014 at 18:44

The Professor would know best about that.

      • 182 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 22:57

        Probably…not. Well, maybe…

      • 183 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 13:43

Susan nods her head in a way she hopes looks like she knows something.

      • 184 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 15:23

She definitely knows more than the professor.

      • 185 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 17:57

She knows different things from the professor, not more.

      • 186 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 20:49

        The professor’s knowledge is limited.

      • 187 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 21:08

Only One’s knowledge is not limited.

      • 188 Professor VJ Duke February 22, 2014 at 01:06

        So very true, Susan.

      • 189 Susan P February 22, 2014 at 16:56

        :D

  13. 190 Susan P February 17, 2014 at 13:30

I think I like Shnodgrate’s the best. It singeth true. And who would dare to laugh the Professor to scorn? There oughta be a law against that!

Does the Fender Stratocaster fight with your ukulele? Which one wins if it does?

Juilliard and Ruber sound like my brothers did many decades ago. That sort of thing can keep going for a long time.

    Poor Smiles.

Another stunning edition of the PL Times. :D

    • 191 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:25

Oh no. Yours is the best hands down! (Do you see how the PF loves it?) I don’t know. But it happens frequently!

Oh…no…the strat wins all the time.

It sure can. Ruber will eventually smash Julliard, though.

      A pity.

      Thanks, Susan!

      • 192 Susan P February 18, 2014 at 02:12

Well, I think you should do something about the laughing to scorn thing. :D

      • 193 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 02:39

        Yes, but whatever what?

      • 194 Susan P February 18, 2014 at 02:40

        Let me sleep on it.

      • 195 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 02:48

Okay. But make sure to help me! :)

      • 196 Susan P February 18, 2014 at 14:32

Still thinking…I think I’m going to ask George – no one ever laughs him to scorn.

      • 197 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 19:49

Yes, do that. Mr. Bailey is a respectable chap.

      • 198 Susan P February 19, 2014 at 18:18

Respectable and carries long, sharp claws.

      • 199 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2014 at 20:56

        But does he use them?

      • 200 Susan P February 20, 2014 at 18:52

He never deliberately hurts anyone. Mostly he uses them to climb up on furniture and beds. Before his operation, he could just jump, but I’m totally happy that he can get up at all.

      • 201 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2014 at 23:04

Will he be able to jump again?

      • 202 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 13:48

He jumps…just not as high. His leaps before were poetry in motions.

      • 203 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 15:30

Give him a big pat for me.

      • 204 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 18:02

I just did – he’s curled up right here beside me on the floor.

      • 205 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2014 at 20:53

        Awww… :)

      • 206 Susan P February 21, 2014 at 21:13

        :D

  14. 207 K. A. Brace February 17, 2014 at 13:30

    I. I prefer Susan’s proverb. @. The mad mention of ‘beet’ reminded me of Firesign Theatre–it all comes back to me. I take it the professor is familiar. If not call on me and I’ll dsee if there isn’t a way to download the two albums.>KB

    • 208 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:24

      :D It’s great.

I am not familiar! What is it?

      • 209 K. A. Brace February 17, 2014 at 21:58

Firesign Theatre–google it. I have both albums–right up your alley. I don’t know if I can download them.KB

      • 210 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 02:30

        Haha! Like a PL skit?

      • 211 K. A. Brace February 18, 2014 at 02:39

Exactly. Get the ‘Bozo’ Album, You would love it. >KB

      • 212 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 02:47

I’ll look for it! Do you like PL skits?

      • 213 K. A. Brace February 18, 2014 at 04:02

        What are they? >KB

      • 214 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 19:41

They’re the studio’s skits. Every Friday.

      • 215 K. A. Brace February 18, 2014 at 19:59

Okay. I’ll be watching more closely. Get the Bozo album–it’s all about “the future.” >KB

      • 216 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 23:48

        I’ll look into it. Thanks.

  15. 217 PorterGirl February 17, 2014 at 13:28

Susan’s proverb is very wise indeed. I shall keep it in mind during times of conflict.

A Fender! Awesome. A fine guitar – what is your favourite song to play on it?

Ruber does make me laugh. Such an angry chap!

I am sad to hear Smiles has been caught. If he cries out in the night, I would want to go to him. No one should cry out and be ignored.

    • 218 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:23

Me too! It’s the best, isn’t it?

But the professor isn’t sure he can play on it…do you play?

He is! And for good reasons too!

      Give him a sucker?

      • 219 PorterGirl February 18, 2014 at 11:50

        A sucker? I say!
I have played bass guitar for years, but more than four strings confuses me. I am sure it is pleasant to look at, even if you can’t play it.

      • 220 Professor VJ Duke February 18, 2014 at 19:43

        Yes, you know…a lollipop?

        Bass guitar is cool!

      • 221 PorterGirl February 18, 2014 at 19:50

        I do love a good lollipop :)

  16. 222 L. Marie February 17, 2014 at 13:23

I don’t think I knew you played the guitar, Professor. Interesting! And as for proverbs, I couldn’t possibly choose between the three of you.

    • 223 Professor VJ Duke February 17, 2014 at 21:22

      I have one, doesn’t mean I play it, though…

The professor’s is the worst hands down.
