So, the professor ran into Amelia again.
Not literally, of course. In truth, that’s true.
This time, I was in Cashew City eating with Schwarz Tauptinker.
Schwarz and I were talking about why oranges are orange and why bananas are green, when Amelia just plopped down at our table.
The professor was shocked into speechlessness.
“Whoa!” Schwarz said. “That was so unexpected, tell you what! Chickit!”
Amelia ignored Schwarz—which I thought was rather rude.
“Professor,” she said, “nice to see you again.”
“Not sure I know you,” this professor said. “Do I?”
“Of course!” Amelia is quick to anger, you know.
“Well, who do you think I am?” I asked.
“Professor VJ Duke!”
I gave a little laugh and did my best to sell my next line. I think I failed.
“No, no. I’m not him. That’s my twin brother. I’m BJ Duke.”
Of course this was to throw Amelia off, but Schwarz had to say something—which was a pity.
As soon as I said what I said, he turned to me.
“No way, man!” Schwarz laughed. “And here I thought you were P.VJ!”
“Yes,” Amelia said. “We all know you don’t have a twin brother. And I knew you since you were small.”
My plan didn’t work—which was a couple of pities.
“Cool,” Schwarz said to Amelia. “That’s cool you knew him since he was small. Did he know you before you were fat?”
Schwarz said it innocently enough.
I thought it was a great remark.
Amelia left—screaming again.
“I don’t understand it, Schwarz.”
“Neither do I—and that’s what makes it funny.”
