Section A. Punchy Proverbs:

NOTE: All proverbs are written by V. Shnodgrate, a famous poet in the PL.

(1) If all art is self-expression, then all self-expression isn’t art.

(2) Water, like true passion, cannot be stopped—unless a dam is built.

(3) There are those who are thought wise but make no sense—this is gasbaggery, for we all know wise people must make sense.

Favorites, Punchy Family?

***

Section B. The professor speaks:

Imagine if you stood on a cliff and looked out over a beautiful valley… Would you jump? The professor might—if he had wings.

***

Section C. What the PL’ers have to say:

A short conversation:

EMPEROR NAPOLEON: How about we toast, eh?

MR. RATHERQUITE: It’s rude to drink in front of the Ladies.

EMPEROR NAPOLEON: Haha. I never knew this. Perhaps we should drink behind them, then?

MR. RATHERQUITE: Sir! Never do something behind a ladies’ back!

EMPEROR NAPOLEON: Dammit, man! We can’t drink in front of them and we can’t drink behind him! How shall we drink?

MR. RATHERQUITE: Never, sir.

EMPEROR NAPOLEON: Then we go to the grave dry as a vat full of rattlesnakes. No, sir! No woman is worth that!

***

Section D. Breaking News:
by J. Freedwoppen

Mr. Ratherquite and Daniel H. had a debate publicly about the worth of emeralds. It was decided that Mr. Ratherquite’s opinion (i.e. that emeralds are only shiny and lack any real worth, unlike ladies) is just plain dadblamery.

Smiles Riot and the Veezler had a long talk about nothing. At the end of the discussion, Smiles Riot remarked thoughtfully, “Talking about nothing really makes me think about something.”

“The only way in, is in.” And with those words Merlin led a group of kids through one of the most dangerous caves in the Punchy Lands. Search teams are still diligently trying to locate the group. They’ve been missing for 4 days.

Section E. Hearing from the PL Family:

It’s interesting to note that V. Shnodgrate is smarter then a bull. I did like all the proverbs this week.

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 20:31

Why smarter than a bull? The professor may be duller than a bull.

Yes, they were all zingers. I’m still trying to think on them. I might get a brain contusion.

      • 3 Bethy April 16, 2014 at 20:36

I don’t know why smarter then a bull. Although you did say wiser in your tag. I don’t think the professor is duller then a bull. I mean look at “The Story of Ferdinand.” All he did was smell the flowers and it wasn’t boring or dull at all.
Brain contusions are no good. Maybe you should give it break for awhile.

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke April 17, 2014 at 15:49

*laughing* I forgot all about the tags. “The Story of Ferdinand” sounds really interesting. Does he die in the end?

I fear I’d get them no matter what.

      • 5 Bethy April 18, 2014 at 19:01

Oh no! Ferdinand just likes to lay around under the trees and smell the flowers. It was and still is one of my favorite books.

        Warts and popcorn.

      • 6 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 12:58

That sounds like a fun life!

        Haha! That’s what I say.

      • 7 Bethy May 5, 2014 at 10:33

It does sound like a fun life! It is actually a favorite pastime of mine when I get it.

      • 8 Professor VJ Duke May 5, 2014 at 13:09

Unless the flowers have bees in them.

      • 9 Bethy May 5, 2014 at 17:15

        Well that was Ferdinand’s problem.

      • 10 Professor VJ Duke May 5, 2014 at 18:15

At least he had a good name.

      • 11 Bethy May 7, 2014 at 10:55

He did didn’t he? And he didn’t have to go to bull fights ever again after the first one. Which is probably a good thing since I think they kill the bulls in Spain.

      • 12 Professor VJ Duke May 7, 2014 at 14:21

Oh do they? Aha! I know I wouldn’t want to get in a ring with a bull!

      • 13 Bethy May 8, 2014 at 10:20

I wouldn’t either. I find the whole thing rather barbaric…kind of like football (although I guess they don’t kill each other during football.)

      • 14 Professor VJ Duke May 8, 2014 at 14:51

        You mean American Football?

      • 15 Bethy May 9, 2014 at 10:35

erm yes. European football can be rather violet at times I guess, but since they aren’t supposed to use hands I guess that keeps it in check a little.

      • 16 Professor VJ Duke May 9, 2014 at 20:42

*nods* It would be fun to see some violence here and there.

      • 17 Bethy May 12, 2014 at 09:55

erm. only once in awhile though.

      • 18 Professor VJ Duke May 12, 2014 at 12:59

Hmm…that’s not a warrior spirit! *smiles*

      • 19 Bethy May 13, 2014 at 14:18

Nope it is not. I think the only thing I get warrior-y about is dirt.

      • 20 Professor VJ Duke May 14, 2014 at 13:06

        *laughing* Well, it’s a start…

  2. 21 bardictale April 16, 2014 at 09:19

I agree with the professor, though I don’t agree with any of the proverbs.

    • 22 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 20:14

Now, what is wrong with the proverbs, Bard?

      • 23 bardictale April 17, 2014 at 09:50

        They are wrong, professor.

      • 24 Professor VJ Duke April 17, 2014 at 16:11

        All of them?

      • 25 bardictale April 17, 2014 at 18:36

Just about. Some of them are half right.

      • 26 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 15:51

Do you suppose half right is better than all wrong? I’m not sure.

      • 27 bardictale April 19, 2014 at 17:57

Sometimes it’s worse, especially if no one can tell what part is wrong. Because then it’ll never be corrected.

      • 28 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 13:11

        Well, what should I do?

      • 29 bardictale April 21, 2014 at 17:40

        What do you mean?

      • 30 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 21:09

        I’m confused now, Bard.

      • 31 bardictale April 22, 2014 at 04:00

Why? If something’s wrong, correct it. If something’s missing- find the missing part. That’s how all good quests start^~

      • 32 Professor VJ Duke April 22, 2014 at 14:22

But I didn’t write the p’s. Shnod would get angry.

      • 33 bardictale April 22, 2014 at 16:04

You ask what needed to be done. The professor can decide if to follow a bard’s advice or not.

      • 34 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 00:34

        I probably should, I think.

  3. 35 Angeline M April 15, 2014 at 02:28

Oh, P. VJ, this is one of those posts where I am left scratching my head after reading this post from top to bottom, and bottom to top. In the proverbs section I must vote for #1, but then become confused if I think about it too much; and I am hoping you would not jump off a cliff no matter how beautiful the valley, unless you were hang gliding; and Emperor Napoleon was a wise man for who wants to go to his grave in a vat of dry snakes? Are ladies not shiny like emeralds? And in conclusion I think I must agree with Smiles Riot. Oh, and those lost kids…are they lost, or is the search team lost? *scratching head* but *smiling*. And p.s.: is * like # ?

    • 36 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:24

*laughing lots* Well, if you read it from bottom to top, there could lie the problem. I fear the professor is a confusing sort of chap at times, but that’s because I’m wise. You mean, you wouldn’t want to fly? And all good points you have there, you know.

  4. 37 Catherine April 15, 2014 at 00:17

    #3!! I’ve always thought that…

    • 38 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:23

Yes! Isn’t that a zinger! Wowawee.

      • 39 Catherine April 17, 2014 at 17:08

Haha you sound excited! But yes.

      • 40 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 15:31

Haha, yes! Wouldn’t you say the professor is an excited chap?

      • 41 Catherine April 18, 2014 at 20:03

Definitely. And that’s a good thing, too.

      • 42 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 13:00

*smiling bigly* I think it is too. I think, at least.

      • 43 Catherine April 22, 2014 at 03:03

Well, since I agree, that makes two of us. That should be enough to make it valid.

      • 44 Professor VJ Duke April 22, 2014 at 14:06

Hahaha–I love the way you think!

      • 45 Catherine April 23, 2014 at 02:42

Why thank you. :D don’t think I’ve been told that before!

      • 46 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 18:24

And that’s a wonder! You should have been, at least, I’m sure I’d do it. Well, I did.

      • 47 Catherine April 24, 2014 at 01:05

        Aw, thanks, professor!

        Haha yep, you did!

      • 48 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 14:55

        *laughing* Yes!

  5. 49 icedmocha34 April 14, 2014 at 23:54

Wish I had wings. Speaking of, I just read Maximum Ride today, and dreamed that I was Max, flying with Fang…ahhh, good times.

    • 50 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:21

Yes, I do too. But have you considered what type of wings you’d like?

      • 51 icedmocha34 April 16, 2014 at 01:04

Yup. Well, you mean like what kind of bird wings, or colors and stuff?

      • 52 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 01:14

All of it. Like I think I’d like a hawk’s wings. That are…red.

      • 53 icedmocha34 April 16, 2014 at 01:17

I want black wings, also hawk-ish. Like Fang’s except with purple undertones. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1920&bih=855&q=fang+from+maximum+ride&oq=fang+from&gs_l=img.1.0.0l10.1380.3571.0.5326.9.9.0.0.0.0.235.1155.2j5j2.9.0….0…1ac.1.41.img..2.7.694.nSkGUwgPwao#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=mDfbAQmidC4_uM%253A%3BIZzvPl_ppJ801M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Ffc08.deviantart.net%252Ffs71%252Ff%252F2010%252F226%252F0%252F2%252FFang___Maximum_Ride_Manga_by_AnimeGirl10129.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.deviantart.com%252Fmorelikethis%252F175385476%3B689%3B1024

      • 54 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 19:54

Now, I do like those wings lots. Wouldn’t you rather they were red, though?

      • 55 icedmocha34 April 16, 2014 at 19:54

        Purple.

      • 56 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 20:24

I wish I could interest you in black. Purple would show up in the night.

      • 57 icedmocha34 April 17, 2014 at 21:52

        Not dark purple!!

      • 58 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 16:14

But… I need to convince you of a different color, or I’ll have to scream. You wouldn’t want that, would you?

      • 59 icedmocha34 April 19, 2014 at 00:28

        *shrug* Purple. *arms cross*

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 13:08

Rats and a Heifer! You’re not supposed to be so stubborn!

      • 61 icedmocha34 April 21, 2014 at 23:22

I’m Italian. Of course I’m stubborn.

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke April 22, 2014 at 14:04

Does that mean you never surrender?

      • 63 icedmocha34 April 22, 2014 at 23:12

        Never, ever ever ever.

      • 64 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 00:45

Even if I say please and offer cookies?

      • 65 icedmocha34 April 23, 2014 at 00:46

I’m not so easily tempted by cookies and nice words. I can make my own cookies. Actually, I have some in the kitchen…dessert!!

      • 66 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 00:55

Well, if you give me some of your cookies, I’ll let you surrender.

      • 67 icedmocha34 April 23, 2014 at 00:55

MY COOKIES! Number one rule of being Italian: you don’t ever share food.

      • 68 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 00:56

Consider me the godfather, then. How’s that?

      • 69 icedmocha34 April 23, 2014 at 00:58

The Godfather? Like the movie? I’ve never seen that….aren’t they all Italian mafia or something?

      • 70 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 01:14

Yes, he’s the boss. So, then, I’ll be the boss. Is that good?

      • 71 icedmocha34 April 23, 2014 at 01:27

        uh, sure…?

      • 72 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 18:19

        Yes, why not?

  6. 73 Julie Harris April 14, 2014 at 23:11

Hmmm… I think wise people are only understood by other wise-ish people. I have the pleasure of looking out over valleys quite often. Flying over them would be lovely!

    • 74 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:21

You look out over valleys? Coolio!

  7. 75 ladycheetah7 April 14, 2014 at 22:25

#3 gets a high five and amen. Now only all those who think themselves wise will take heed to those words.
I am a bit concerned about Merlin. He takes children and looses his way? I wonder if there is some diabolical plot. Inquiring mind wants to know….

    • 76 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:21

I love how you said that! What an awesome saying there, Lady. Haha, very true.

Yes, it’s disconcerting. But do you think Merlin would be wicked? Perhaps DS is involved?

  8. 77 John W. Howell April 14, 2014 at 21:10

My favorite is: Great minds think alike and fools seldom differ.

    • 78 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:17

Now, I do like that lots, John. Do you know who came up with it?

      • 79 John W. Howell April 15, 2014 at 22:38

I think Thomas Payne said something like it first in the 1792 political pamphlet The Rights of Man, edition 2 and sort of gets the credit.
The actual quote “I do not believe that any two men, on what are called doctrinal points, think alike who think at all. It is only those who have not thought that appear to agree.” Since that time the phrase has been shortened and now stands as “great minds think alike and fools seldom differ.”

      • 80 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 01:10

Aha. Well, I still love it. And thank you, John.

      • 81 John W. Howell April 16, 2014 at 01:11

        Welcome.

      • 82 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 01:14

        ==]:-{)+ (The professorish smiley.)

  9. 83 L. Marie April 14, 2014 at 20:13

    I’m a fan of number 3.
I’d like to pluck the back of Emperor Napoleon’s head! No woman is worth that?? Ha! Though why he’d listen to Mr. Ratherquite is anybody’s guess.

    • 84 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:04

I found that surprising, too, that he was listening to Mr. R. I suppose Nappy likes drink more than women. Do you suppose his thinking is faulty?

      • 85 L. Marie April 16, 2014 at 13:28

        Yes, I do!

      • 86 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 20:19

        He’s a bit of a gasbaggery, too.

  10. 87 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 14, 2014 at 19:42

Number 2 wins!! Number 2 wins!! #2 WINS!

Well, of course, one should jump. If it is nice from up top, it must be amazing from the bottom.

Now I’m truly torn as to who I should agree with. Nappy has a valid point, Duke. Mr. R does know the rules of proper dining.

Daniel must have confused Mr. R. Mr. Ratherquite wouldn’t say that…
Smiles and I see eye to eye on that one, Duketh.

Is Merlin taking the children to see Mr. Magi? Maybe he’s reading them all a story about important life lessons. I am worried about the children. You know how I worry, Duke. I wonder if we’re looking for them, you know, me you and Charlie.

    • 88 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:02

Goodness me says I! (And the professor is a master at building dams.)

*laughing* But what about the impact?

Well…we should make up our own rule, then. Don’t you think so?

But I think Mr. R believes it, don’t you?

And the professor is lost on that one, I confess.

Yes, we are! That was the plan. I was keeping you in the dark, however. I’m sure Mr. Magi isn’t in there.

      • 89 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 15, 2014 at 19:18

No longer that excited about #2. (I come from a long line of beavers. My dams would put yours to shame, Duke.)

Either way, one is out of luck, I’d say.

Yes, what rule do you have in mind. Shut down drinking anything all together?

Probably, he tends to disappoint me sometimes.

Not me. *happily skips off with Smiles for some deep thinking*

*shuts the light off* *nods in agreement*

      • 90 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:48

But are you sure about that?

        Yes, I agree.

Yes, I think so. Unless it’s cherry juice. How’s that?

That sums up Mr. R for me too. Though I think he’s all wrong about certain things.

        Good luck with the cousin.

        Haha!

      • 91 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 15, 2014 at 20:19

        No, never sure.

Up to you, your rules, Duketh.

Will you expand on that, Duketh?

*left him at the bus stop* You should have told me he didn’t speak English.

        *smiles*

      • 92 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 00:47

(I actually remembered that about you from your poems. Aren’t you proud of me?)

        On the cherry juice thing?

Which probably wouldn’t be a problem for you, huh?

      • 93 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 16, 2014 at 04:14

I am, but which one… *testing you* (This may be the sweetest of moments.)

No, expand on what Mr. R is incorrect about.
Everyone knows tha cherry juice is next to impossible to find…

Probably not, but he was boring me anyway. He only wanted to talk about you, which made me miss you.

      • 94 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 20:11

Well, I remember why you build dams, I think. And it’s been in a few…but…Clam?

Well, he’s all wrong about ladies. Don’t you think? (I manage to find cherry juice!)

And I bet he mentioned Boris the Green.

      • 95 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 16, 2014 at 20:50

Duketh..thank you for remembering. *tears up a bit*

He is wrong, but I do love his loyalty to the ladies. (I could find it, too.)

He did! How’d you know…? Were you following us?

      • 96 Professor VJ Duke April 17, 2014 at 16:02

Aw! Here… *hands Audith the pillow and a can of cherry juice*

I think he’s nice overall. (Well. I suppose you could.)

He’s always speaking about it. And the professor is always about. Isn’t that scary?

      • 97 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 17, 2014 at 17:20

*props her head up on the pillow and watches you work on tracks* *hands back the cherry juice because he needs it* *drinks her water*

        Yes, he’s a keeper. (I said I could…)

        Always about, well, not really.

      • 98 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 15:42

*sips* Thank you. And I’m proud to announce that the tracks (all 96) are finished and sent off to Mr. Editor.

Daniel and he get along. (But now I have my doubts.)

I bet you shiver when you see my bus pull up in the street.

      • 99 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 18, 2014 at 16:18

*beams proudly* Yay for you, Duke!!! Fantastic!

Daniel, is a nice man. *rushes off to the store to see if she can find it…muttering how he always knows what she’s thinking…always…blasted man, show off, always under my skin, stirring me…*

I shiver a lot, actually, not just when seeing your bus. You have a bus????

      • 100 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 16:48

Aw, thanks, Audith! *beams like a dying star*

The professor isn’t. Hahahehe, I know the secrets.

*laughing* No, I don’t. It just sound professorish.

      • 101 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 18, 2014 at 16:58

You’re welcome! You should beam like the brightest star!

Duke, is. He’s proven it to me. *laughs and shakes her head in wonderment*

*closes one eye and looks at you* It actually does! hahaha

      • 102 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 17:33

        I might try it sometime.

*hides* *snaps his fingers knowing full well he’ll get no more info this time either*

        *laughing*

      • 103 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 18, 2014 at 17:37

        When you are ready.

*wants to hide with him, as usual* *smiles, cause he always gets what he wants*

        *laughs with you*

      • 104 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 18:00

I do not always get what I want, dadblameit!

      • 105 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 19, 2014 at 14:57

        Why not? You should…

      • 106 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 13:11

        You must help me.

      • 107 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 21, 2014 at 13:48

I am at your service, always, Duketh.

      • 108 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 20:39

Well, then, let’s make lead balls.

      • 109 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 21, 2014 at 20:45

        Lead balls?

      • 110 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 21:11

        For my musket.

      • 111 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 21, 2014 at 21:30

What are we up to today, Duke.

      • 112 Professor VJ Duke April 22, 2014 at 13:51

Just target practice. Would you like a go at it?

      • 113 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 22, 2014 at 15:44

Yes!! Let me see how you do…

      • 114 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 00:30

        Sometimes I bounce back…

      • 115 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 23, 2014 at 03:01

I’ll catch you if you do…wait let me have the musket. I go first…

      • 116 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 18:27

*wonders if he’s about to be shot*

      • 117 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 23, 2014 at 19:58

*ignores his wondering* *shoots an old tin can*

      • 118 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 14:16

        Poor tin can.

      • 119 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 24, 2014 at 19:22

        *puffs up her cheast proudly*

      • 120 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 23:21

        *high five*

      • 121 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 25, 2014 at 02:43

        *laughs* Hands you the gun.

      • 122 Professor VJ Duke April 25, 2014 at 13:12

        Many thanks.

      • 123 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 25, 2014 at 19:32

        *smiles*

  11. 124 weggieboy April 14, 2014 at 18:44

Those wing suits look insufficient to allow one to stay aloft, but the Professor might jump into one of those jumpsuits before jumping off that cliff! (We all want to do it, but the end result is better if one prepares with the wing suit, eh!?)

    • 125 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 17:45

Haha, for sure! But the spontaneity would be ruined, you know…if you got a suit…

  12. 126 erinkenobi2893 April 14, 2014 at 18:35

I like the first and third proverbs…
Oh dear! Merlin and the kids are missing?! Time to call in the SAR division!

    • 127 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 18:38

Yes, I think so! Where do you suppose they could be? Maybe Merlin is like a Sith Lord?

      • 128 erinkenobi2893 April 16, 2014 at 22:42

Maybe they got caught up in the cave where the giant Father Time sleeps?
And, no, I don’t think so, not in this universe, anyway… He seems to be merely incompetent.

      • 129 Professor VJ Duke April 17, 2014 at 16:08

Good point! Do you suppose Father Time is mean?

Well, wasn’t the Count rather incompetent too?

      • 130 erinkenobi2893 April 17, 2014 at 22:07

No… if you’ve read “The Silver Chair” or “The Last Battle,” he sleeps and dreams of what is going on in the world above him. And in the end of the world, he blows his trumpet to call the stars home.
No, Count Dooku was not incompetent. If he had been, then he would have gotten killed a lot sooner, besides having a bunch of messups and completely throwing the Clone Wars…

      • 131 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 16:18

That’s right! I forgot all about that.

This reminds me. I’ve got a Star Wars question for you. In Episode III, Yoda and Sidious fight. Shouldn’t Yoda win? I mean, I think he’s more powerful.

      • 132 erinkenobi2893 April 18, 2014 at 17:27

I haven’t actually seen Episode III, but I’ll try to answer as best as I can.
I think that Yoda was actually weakened by the influence of the Dark Side. In Attack of the Clones, when Yoda fought Dooku, Yoda actually hesitated to kill him. He didn’t want to kill his old friend. In Revenge of the Sith, there were no inhibitions (such as Obi-Wan had, fighting Anakin,) but the Dark Side had gotten much stronger, and it was weakening Yoda. I think, between you and me, that Obi-Wan really actually had much more experience in facing the Dark Side and fighting Sith than Yoda did, and would have actually been a better choice in fighting Sidious. Besides, Obi-Wan has had to face down his own demons multiple times, and the contest only made him stronger. Yoda, on the other hand, grew up in times of peace, and his trials were probably not anywhere NEAR as harsh as Obi-Wan’s. And then, too, according to Wookiepedia, Obi-Wan is practically impervious to psychic attacks when said attack doesn’t take place in a place that is strong in the Dark Side, and is among one of the few Force users able to deflect Sith lightning with their bare hands, though we don’t see him using it in the movies–I guess we can assume he only mastered the technique toward the end of the Clone Wars. Since psychic attack and lightning were two of Sidious’ preferred methods, he’d be able to effectively defend against both. Thus, in my opinion he is actually the best choice to fight someone like Sidious, and (I think I’ve said this before) he is a more than competent swordsman; his style was defensive and energy-saving, so he could outlast Sidious, and if he was hard pressed, he is perfectly willing to give his own life in order to fulfill his duty. (He has an edge over the Sith in that…) But I think Yoda also knew that, and didn’t want Obi-Wan to die, which is why he sent Obi-Wan to fight Anakin.

      • 133 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 17:57

That’s so cool! I didn’t know that Obi-Wan could deflect lightening. Could Windu? And does Sidieous have a speak attack or something like that?

      • 134 erinkenobi2893 April 18, 2014 at 22:31

I don’t know. I think Windu could. I think they just use their lightsabers when they can because 1. it’s less flashy and 2. it takes less energy.
Yes, I think that Sidious could “break them by talking”, as they say. But Obi-Wan is notorious for fighting to the last, even in a compromised condition.

      • 135 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 13:05

That’s cool. And Sid was no match for Windu.

      • 136 erinkenobi2893 April 21, 2014 at 16:49

No, he wasn’t! X-D (And Anakin says that Obi-Wan is as powerful as Master Windu, which is perfectly possible… we don’t see it, though, because Obi-Wan’s more subdued… sorry, just rambling in prep for cranking out some SW fanfic. May 4 onward is Star Wars Week on my blog! ;-))

      • 137 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 21:04

That will be cool! Anakin isn’t too smart, though, so we shouldn’t trust him.

      • 138 erinkenobi2893 April 21, 2014 at 21:31

Ehhh… Anakin’s smart, all right, he just doesn’t know when to stop talking, but sometimes he doesn’t really know what he’s talking about. So yeah, we need to sift his words, so to speak… but I think it’s entirely possible. :-P

      • 139 Professor VJ Duke April 22, 2014 at 13:51

        Okay, then. I’ll believe you.

      • 140 erinkenobi2893 April 22, 2014 at 14:42

Of course, Anakin is also prone to exaggeration… :-P
*says in villain voice* Your trust is flattering, but undeserved. :-P

      • 141 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 00:24

I wish I had a villain voice, dadblameit! You’ll have to teach me.

      • 142 erinkenobi2893 April 23, 2014 at 12:59

My villain voice… it’s not that hard. Basically, it sounds like Erin impersonating Christopher Lee’s villains. :-P

      • 143 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 18:36

*laughs* Mr. Lee has an awesome villain voice!

      • 144 erinkenobi2893 April 23, 2014 at 19:09

He does. X-D He’s one of the most awesome actors. I mean, Sauruman AND Dooku?! He played both of them and how are you supposed to beat that!? :-P
Then, when he was younger, he played Sir Charles Baskerville and Sherlock Holmes too, in different movies, of course, but still!!!

      • 145 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 14:09

Well, we can’t. Now I’m depressed.

Wowawee! The dude is simply awesome.

      • 146 erinkenobi2893 April 24, 2014 at 14:14

True… :-/ We can make even more epic villains in books, though!!! X-D For instance, in the novel I’m working on right now, the villain is twisting one of the heroines’ thoughts, making her believe things that aren’t true and she’s so delusional and going to betray her friends!!!

      • 147 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 15:05

Cool. I like that sort of villain. Not all brawn and strength , but a powerful mind!

      • 148 erinkenobi2893 April 24, 2014 at 15:33

Yeah. X-D And he could probably kick people’s behinds in battle, too… but I don’t know yet… I haven’t actually written him in battle. Just destroying one soldier’s mind, and mentally torturing one of the heroes, besides bending this poor girl’s thoughts…

      • 149 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 22:58

I like him! What’s his name?

      • 150 erinkenobi2893 April 24, 2014 at 23:02

Horeck. Has sort a villainy ring to it, no?

      • 151 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 23:29

It does. It’s a name of ambiguity as well.

      • 152 erinkenobi2893 April 24, 2014 at 23:32

Indeed. He’s meant to be mysterious. ;-)

      • 153 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 23:40

        Good name then!

      • 154 erinkenobi2893 April 24, 2014 at 23:56

        :-D

      • 155 erinkenobi2893 April 23, 2014 at 12:59

Only in her natural range, which of course is much higher than Christopher Lee’s. X-P I swear, he has the deepest voice I have ever heard!

      • 156 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 18:36

I think I might agree. The man was made to be a villain!

      • 157 erinkenobi2893 April 23, 2014 at 19:10

Or an Ent. :-P If he wasn’t Saruman first.

      • 158 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 14:10

*laughing lots* Never thought about that before, but so true!

      • 159 erinkenobi2893 April 24, 2014 at 14:15

Among the SW characters who could talk you to sleep… Anakin may not be one, and Yoda would make you too confused to sleep, but Dooku might be able to, and Obi-Wan I can definitely see doing it. :-P

      • 160 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 15:05

Yes, for sure Obi-Wan. And maybe Darth-Maul? Laughing.

      • 161 erinkenobi2893 April 24, 2014 at 15:34

Maybe Darth Maul… if he didn’t go off into one of those stupid rants how all the Jedi had to die, and he will have revenge, and blah blah blah. The guy who voices him in the Clone Wars is amazing…

      • 162 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 22:59

Was he a jedi at one time?

      • 163 erinkenobi2893 April 24, 2014 at 23:02

Darth Maul? No. Dooku was. Maul wasn’t, I don’t think.

      • 164 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 23:30

Yes, he’s like the professor: Sith from the beginning!

      • 165 erinkenobi2893 April 24, 2014 at 23:40

        *laughs* true…
I have such interesting friends! I know two people who are Sith now (possibly three), I have one friend who grew up when they were working on breaking up segregation, another who’s thirteen but reads Marx and Plato and loves philosophy and ran for Chancellor against Palpatine and talks like a college professor but jokes that he’s a four-year-old girl from Mongolia, I know a Corellian, a Mandalorian, a bunch of scoundrels *blush*… my grandfather is a Vietnam veteran… and I love discussing gardening with my neighbor who has Parkinson’s, which is sad but we’re hoping that it’s under control. And my best friend Iris is in Civil Air Patrol and reminds me of Doctor Watson, which is awesome… We even look appropriate for the roles of Holmes and Watson! I mean, I’m tall and skinny with sort of hollow cheeks and high cheekbones (I even have the curls, but they’re not so dark, and my eyes are brown not gray or blue…), and she’s small but could wrestle a bear to a standstill. I should know. We’ve had a pillow fight and numerous wrestling matches and she bests me every time. (Maybe it’s because I’m always playing the noble, sporting characters and she normally likes to be the ones who are a bit more like scoundrels. She actually acts out the thief in one of my novels. ;-) )

      • 166 Professor VJ Duke April 25, 2014 at 12:45

*laughing lots* That sounds like an interesting group of friends, for sure! And now you can an odd professor to the list!

      • 167 erinkenobi2893 April 25, 2014 at 15:13

You’re already on the list! ;-) That’s covered under the two Sith, and the Sith Apprentice (who is also Mandalorian)! ;-P

      • 168 Professor VJ Duke April 25, 2014 at 18:16

Oh! Awesome. And I have a double lightsaber. Orange on one side red on the other.

      • 169 erinkenobi2893 April 25, 2014 at 22:56

I occasionally carry two lightsabers. Both green. :-P

      • 170 Professor VJ Duke April 26, 2014 at 16:00

        I think I have a yellow–when I’m good.

      • 171 erinkenobi2893 April 26, 2014 at 17:01

        0_0 Should I be worried when I don’t see yellow? ;-P

      • 172 Professor VJ Duke April 27, 2014 at 18:49

I don’t know… Don’t you suppose the professor can be a friendly Sith?

      • 173 erinkenobi2893 April 27, 2014 at 19:51

He could… It’s just that when I run into a Sith like Maul or Sidious they’re almost never friendly… I think it’s either because 1) I am a Jedi or 2) I am the grand-niece of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

      • 174 Professor VJ Duke April 28, 2014 at 14:36

You didn’t tell me you were his grandniece! That’s cool.

      • 175 erinkenobi2893 April 28, 2014 at 22:26

Mmm-hmm. I’m the daughter of his brother’s son. ^_^ At least my character is… Erin Kalana Kenobi II is. The first Erin Kenobi was a Jedi long before the Republic was even formed, and it’s not certain she’s even related. ;-)

      • 176 Professor VJ Duke April 29, 2014 at 17:41

And what sort of lightsaber did she carry?

      • 177 erinkenobi2893 April 29, 2014 at 17:46

Green. :-P Both of them, actually. It’s odd, but in Iris’ and my legendarium, the only Kenobi who uses a blue lightsaber is Obi-Wan!

      • 178 Professor VJ Duke April 29, 2014 at 18:03

And you know, part of me thinks he should have a green. He’s not too much of a warrior.

      • 179 erinkenobi2893 April 30, 2014 at 14:08

True. X-D But if you watch him fight (especially in the Clone Wars… *cough cough* Watch him go up against Maul and Savage, he really took them down AND cut Savage’s arm off too!) I think it’s pretty clear why it’s blue.

      • 180 Professor VJ Duke April 30, 2014 at 16:09

Did he kill Maul? Oh, that’s right. Qui-gon could have beat Maul, too.

      • 181 erinkenobi2893 May 1, 2014 at 14:36

Well, it’s confusing. Obi-Wan supposedly killed Maul in “The Phantom Menace,” then they brought Maul back in the Clone Wars TV series. It was just crazy.

      • 182 Professor VJ Duke May 1, 2014 at 20:03

        I loved Maul.

      • 183 erinkenobi2893 May 2, 2014 at 12:02

Yeah, me too. I didn’t get why they brought him back in the Clone Wars, though. I thought it didn’t make much sense, though I must admit, it did turn out pretty awesome! X-P

      • 184 Professor VJ Duke May 2, 2014 at 13:06

        Yeah, I should see that.

      • 185 erinkenobi2893 May 2, 2014 at 13:19

Some of those episodes… *shudders* They’re like… really, really DARK… sword and sorcery. But they’re necessary to the story, sadly. :-/ By the end, I don’t think it was much of a kid’s show anymore. :’-(

      • 186 Professor VJ Duke May 2, 2014 at 20:46

        Oh, that’s different, for sure.

      • 187 erinkenobi2893 May 3, 2014 at 19:36

Indeed. It’s even different to the prequels, which were more complex and slightly darker (maybe?) than the original trilogy…
Well, whether they were actually darker or not is debatable, but still.

      • 188 Professor VJ Duke May 5, 2014 at 12:37

Yeah, I’d say they probably were…

      • 189 erinkenobi2893 May 5, 2014 at 14:40

Maybe a little. Revenge of the Sith definitely was. And Anakin scared me.

      • 190 Professor VJ Duke May 5, 2014 at 18:01

The professor would have beaten him!

      • 191 erinkenobi2893 May 5, 2014 at 23:20

Whoops, wrong word choice. I meant “creeped me out”, not “scared.” And I probably could’ve kicked his behind… the Chosen One was highly underrated. :-P

      • 192 Professor VJ Duke May 5, 2014 at 23:36

        Overrated, you mean!

      • 193 erinkenobi2893 May 6, 2014 at 00:12

Oh, that’s right. *facepalm* Wrong word. Your pardon, world. :-P Yes, overrated. The Chosen One is highly overrated. And overconfident. And would be weeping baby tears as I kicked his wimpy rear. :-P

      • 194 Professor VJ Duke May 6, 2014 at 12:49

That’s the spirit! A true warrior.

      • 195 erinkenobi2893 May 6, 2014 at 13:17

        X-D
While he was boasting, I’d kick his legs out from under him and sit on him!!!

      • 196 Professor VJ Duke May 6, 2014 at 15:45

And then I’d use my lightning on him.

      • 197 erinkenobi2893 May 6, 2014 at 17:59

While I was still sitting on him? Please don’t spoil my fun, professor! I want to sit on him for a little while! @_@

      • 198 Professor VJ Duke May 6, 2014 at 23:04

        I’ll wait patiently then.

      • 199 erinkenobi2893 May 7, 2014 at 12:41

*bumps up and down on Anakin’s chest* Teehee.

      • 200 Professor VJ Duke May 7, 2014 at 14:23

        Now the lightning!

      • 201 erinkenobi2893 May 8, 2014 at 11:21

*reluctantly gets off* Aww… I was having fun. ;-/

      • 202 Professor VJ Duke May 8, 2014 at 14:57

        *destroys him*

      • 203 erinkenobi2893 May 9, 2014 at 14:58

        :-( I like playing with him,sometimes.

      • 204 Professor VJ Duke May 9, 2014 at 20:49

        I can tell!

      • 205 erinkenobi2893 May 10, 2014 at 14:34

Messing with his head is fun.

      • 206 Professor VJ Duke May 12, 2014 at 12:55

        I love messing with heads!

      • 207 erinkenobi2893 May 13, 2014 at 13:44

        :-P

      • 208 erinkenobi2893 April 25, 2014 at 22:57

I actually inherited one of them from Qui-Gon Jinn so I’m pretty lucky! :-D

      • 209 Professor VJ Duke April 26, 2014 at 16:00

        Yes, you are!

        X-D

  13. 211 Debbie April 14, 2014 at 18:05

Merlin and the kids have been missing FOUR DAYS?? Yikes, hope they fare better than that Malaysian jet.

No, Professor, even with wings I wouldn’t jump. Depending, of course, on whether something menacing was standing behind me!

Perhaps the Emperor and Mr. R. should stand *beside* the ladies to do their drinking?

#2 is the ONLY one that makes sense to me this time.

    • 212 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 18:31

For sure! I wouldn’t have went with Merlin, would you have?

      A vulture, maybe?

Haha! Nappy should have thought of that.

From time to time, they all muddle my brain.

  14. 213 Simply Skeptical April 14, 2014 at 17:24

#1 Isn’t that the truth all self expression isn’t an art? A few come to mind.

#2 Sometimes true passion requires an emergency dam. LOL!

#3 That’s just what it is gasbaggery (a bunch of hot air). Just don’t take all that wisdom near a cliff. :-)

I wouldn’t trust Merlin with a dead rat. Hope the party is found safe & sound soon.

    • 214 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 18:31

      It is! What few?

Exactly. Passion is rather wicked, don’t you think?

Well, if we did take it by a cliff, we could push it over.

      How about with the professor?

  15. 215 technophile9 April 14, 2014 at 15:06

When I think about it, #3 is a good one. I mean, there are lots of clever people who can’t communicate anything… but are they wise? :/ Depends on your definition of wise really.

Would the wings work? I would want to try them out first.

:D I wonder if Mr. Ratherquite would be more interesting without the ladies, and vice versa. Maybe you should separate them and see what happens.

Emeralds are only really worth anything because people think they’re worth something. Of course, they’re rare, but is that enough? o_O

    • 216 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 18:28

Very good distinction, Joe. The professor isn’t wise.

Really? But what if they malfunction while you’re in flight?

*laughing* Now that would be a wonder! I bet he’d get depressed, huh?

And that’s exactly what I’ve thought at times! Hmm…we should make something that I have a lot of seem rare.

      • 217 technophile9 April 14, 2014 at 19:46

What do you have a lot of?

      • 218 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:02

A lot of rain recently, but that would be hard. How about weeds?

      • 219 technophile9 April 15, 2014 at 20:43

How to make weeds seem rare? They’re everywhere! And even if you don’t have them, they’re pretty easy to grow – just add neglect. ;)

I would say rain would be a pretty good bet, but only in hot countries. Everyone wants/needs what they don’t have.

      • 220 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 00:59

*laughing lots* That last line is stellar, Joe. Well…I must find something else.

Isn’t that the truth? How about…blue desks?

      • 221 technophile9 April 16, 2014 at 08:40

Hmm… You make a good point. But a blue desk does sound pretty cool.

      • 222 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 20:12

Yes, and interestingly enough, the professor has one.

  16. 223 ruthierufiebob April 14, 2014 at 15:06

I love the “water, like true passion…” quote!

But I do not think that all wise people make sense! Maybe they’re just so wise that they cannot be understood…

    • 224 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 18:26

I kinda liked that too! What do you see in it?

That could definitely be true, for sure.

      • 225 ruthierufiebob April 15, 2014 at 00:22

I see some sort of beauty… I think in the idea of passion flowing or rushing like waters, like a river that cannot be stopped. One has to actively build a dam to stop the passion that naturally flows.

      • 226 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:23

The professor has built 500, you know.

  17. 227 Susan P April 14, 2014 at 14:33

I gotta say that the shadow on the sand terrain is bordering on creepy.

    • 228 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 18:25

I agree. Who belongs to it, do you suppose?

      • 229 Susan P April 14, 2014 at 20:50

I can’t begin to imagine. Something…is…hunting the professor?

      • 230 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:15

Oh yes, I bet so! But I can take it!

      • 231 Susan P April 15, 2014 at 20:54

I hope you have your will made….

      • 232 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 01:04

        No, I don’t…

      • 233 Susan P April 17, 2014 at 20:12

You can download one on line if you aren’t intimidated by electronic gadgets.

      • 234 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 16:05

Do you suppose I’m about to perish?

      • 235 Susan P April 18, 2014 at 16:45

I was thinking of someone else in the PL making one for someone in the PL who finds it out.

      • 236 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 17:11

I think if DS had any inheritance, Ruber might try it.

      • 237 Susan P April 18, 2014 at 17:15

What if Ruber *thinks* DS has an inheritance?

      • 238 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 17:49

That’s an interest, huh? I’m starting to see a neat storyline, Susan!

      • 239 Susan P April 18, 2014 at 18:08

        That sounds like fun!

      • 240 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 18:09

        It is!

      • 241 Susan P April 18, 2014 at 19:53

        Fun!

      • 242 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 12:59

        *laughing*

  18. 243 The Dancing Rider April 14, 2014 at 13:57

I laughed at proverb #3. We all know that wise men often make no sense at all!

Loved a typical PL conversation. I give Napoleon credit for besting Mr. R. though I doubt Napoleon knew he’d done it. He obviously was taking Mr. R’s restrictions literally…. lol.

Poor Mr. R. Dadblamery is it regarding his opinion on emeralds. Of course talking about nothing makes one think of something. Loved this!

Who on EARTH let Arhur lead the field trip?!?!?!?!?

    • 244 Susan P April 14, 2014 at 14:35

And sometimes wise women make no sense to the wise men.

      • 245 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 18:26

        And wise professors?

      • 246 Susan P April 14, 2014 at 20:52

I thought the Professor was a guru when it comes to the ladies.?????????!!!!!!

      • 247 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:15

        What’s a guru exactly?

      • 248 Susan P April 15, 2014 at 20:54

        a teacher

      • 249 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 01:05

Well, then, how could that be possible?

      • 250 Susan P April 17, 2014 at 20:15

A guru is someone like Steve Job or another person who has learned something really well and can teach it to others. Like, the Professor is a guru in Punchy.

      • 251 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 16:06

Aha! I like that. But, doesn’t that mean the professor isn’t a guru of ladies?

      • 252 Susan P April 18, 2014 at 16:46

I don’t think that word means what you think it means. Perhaps the Professorish person is more like Robin Hood.

      • 253 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 17:14

That is–I like that lots. Very much lots.

      • 254 Susan P April 18, 2014 at 17:17

And that includes girls, of course.

      • 255 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 17:50

        How so?

      • 256 Susan P April 18, 2014 at 18:10

Girls are always swooning over superheros and such. Well, not all of us, but when I was in my middle school years a good many girls had deposited their brains in a bank vault and left them there for about 8 years.

      • 257 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 12:47

*laughing* Now that’s an awesome way to put that. The professor never loses his brain. (It seems like girls are always swooning–which is a wonder.)

      • 258 Susan P April 21, 2014 at 14:13

Not all girls are always swooning. But I won’t tell you the male reciprocal for the girls swooning.

      • 259 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 20:46

You must! Why won’t you? I need to know!

      • 260 Susan P April 21, 2014 at 20:55

Why do you need to know?

      • 261 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 21:17

Well, if I understand such things, I’ll be better protected against the dangers.

      • 262 Susan P April 23, 2014 at 00:09

You would not like the answer.

      • 263 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 00:53

        Oh yes I would!

      • 264 Susan P April 23, 2014 at 17:50

Well, in general, modern women don’t swoon. They just talk about it. Back ins Scarlett’s day they laced the women up so tightly that they could scarcely breathe which can lead to swooning.

      • 265 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 19:02

Now that does make sense. Sorta like in Pirates of the Caribbean.

      • 266 Susan P April 24, 2014 at 02:41

        Right! Arrrr!

      • 267 Professor VJ Duke April 24, 2014 at 14:56

Did you know the professors was in that movie?

      • 268 Susan P April 24, 2014 at 23:54

Let me guess: you were the Kraken.

      • 269 Professor VJ Duke April 25, 2014 at 12:51

        No, I was the Norrington.

      • 270 Susan P April 25, 2014 at 14:49

        Yeah, he’s pretty gnarly.

      • 271 Professor VJ Duke April 25, 2014 at 18:04

Doesn’t he remind you of me?

      • 272 Susan P April 25, 2014 at 18:29

To which “you” do you refer?

      • 273 Professor VJ Duke April 25, 2014 at 18:47

        There’s only one, you know.

      • 274 Susan P April 25, 2014 at 18:49

And you’re the only one? Like Tigger?

      • 275 Professor VJ Duke April 25, 2014 at 19:00

*laughing* Not that! Well, how many do you think there are?

      • 276 Susan P April 25, 2014 at 19:09

Really, only One Genuine Profesorish Person. But he has a number of minions.

      • 277 Professor VJ Duke April 26, 2014 at 15:42

        How many minions?

      • 278 Susan P April 26, 2014 at 15:57

Too many for me to count.

      • 279 Professor VJ Duke April 26, 2014 at 16:14

        Haha.

      • 280 Susan P April 26, 2014 at 19:06

Beware. He who has many minions must needs have many eyes to stand guard. Envy makes a nasty enemy.

      • 281 Professor VJ Duke April 27, 2014 at 18:54

The professor is lucky that way–for now, that is. *big smile*

      • 282 Susan P April 28, 2014 at 13:59

Well, some of the minions do watch the Professor’s back.

      • 283 Professor VJ Duke April 28, 2014 at 15:14

        They do. *smiles bigly*

      • 284 The Dancing Rider April 14, 2014 at 20:54

        ;-)

    • 285 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 18:12

And it’s gasbaggery! What a wonder. Now the professor doesn’t make sense, and he’s not wise, you know.

Haha, I think he was. But Nappy basically said ‘no’ at the end.

For sure! Mr. R gets strange ideas. Thanks!

I know! Maybe they’ll run into DS?

      • 286 The Dancing Rider April 14, 2014 at 20:55

        Shudder….. ;-)

      • 287 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:16

        Yes, that’s for sure.

  19. 288 walt walker April 14, 2014 at 13:17

#3 wins for use of “gasbaggery.”

The Emperor seems my sort of fellow.

I have a pair of wings if you would like to borrow them. Plastic fairy wings my daughter wears. I’ve never seen her get airborne with them, though that might be lack of effort. Anywho, let me know if you want to try them.

    • 289 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 13:24

I thought you might like that, Walt. Isn’t it a stunning word? I actually saw this in a newspaper clipping. I’m still trying to work out what it means.

Yes. I thought he was quite sensible. I might have smacked Mr. R, you know.

*laughing* Okay…yes, I would like to try. But if they don’t work…I want your boomerang.

    • 290 Susan P April 14, 2014 at 13:43

I’ve heard that if you are not on the edge of the cliff, you are taking up too much space. What does that mean?

As for Ratherquite, sometimes he behaves like a complete nincompoop. Mr. Knows It All.

Also, Nappy needs to get his soldiers out of Portugal.

Having a daughter sounds like fun, Walt.

      • 291 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 18:11

It means someone wants to throw you off? Do you think that’s what it means?

He does. Don’t you think the Ladies might get cranky about it?

        Are they there?

The professor could do that, you know.

      • 292 Susan P April 14, 2014 at 20:32

That’s doesn’t seem like a good outcome, though. Try again.

Yes, I do think the ladies might get cranky and hit him over the head with their fans.

They were all over the Iberian Peninsula during the wars.

        Could what?

      • 293 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:06

Umm…now I’m at a loss! Could you please tell me?

Haha. I wonder how you knew they carried fans…

Oh yes. Well, he’s retired from that campaign, I believe.

I could get wings like that.

      • 294 Susan P April 15, 2014 at 20:30

Tell you what? I would be glad to if you could give me a specific question.

I saw them at the picnic with their fans.

      • 295 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 00:48

        A question about what, though?

        Was I there?

      • 296 Susan P April 17, 2014 at 19:56

Well, if ya can’t figure it out, I can’t explain it.

      • 297 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 15:55

        Hmmm…I don’t see why not.

      • 298 Susan P April 18, 2014 at 16:23

        Sometimes life is challenging. *wink*

      • 299 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 16:49

Yes, and the professor is dull.

      • 300 Susan P April 18, 2014 at 16:55

Gotta shine up that armor then. No dull armor allowed.

      • 301 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 17:31

        But it takes such work!

      • 302 Susan P April 18, 2014 at 17:55

A little work never hurt anyone.

      • 303 Professor VJ Duke April 18, 2014 at 18:02

        Expect the professor.

      • 304 Susan P April 18, 2014 at 18:15

When should I expect the Professor? I want to know so I can get the molasses cookies for him.

      • 305 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 12:49

        Well–when’s a good time?

      • 306 Susan P April 21, 2014 at 14:18

Preferably after they are baked…I made some dog cookies on Saturday, but they have peanut butter in them.

      • 307 Professor VJ Duke April 21, 2014 at 20:50

Humph to that. Can I eat dog cookies?

      • 308 Susan P April 22, 2014 at 23:54

You can, but why would you want to?

      • 309 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 00:48

        Well, they have peanut butter…

      • 310 Susan P April 23, 2014 at 17:36

No sugar in them…. Eggs, brown rice flour, cinnamon, oatmeal….

      • 311 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 18:57

        No sugar…well…dadblameit!

      • 312 Susan P April 25, 2014 at 00:00

Molasses cookies have sugar. And molasses.

      • 313 Professor VJ Duke April 25, 2014 at 13:03

        And carrots.

      • 314 Susan P April 25, 2014 at 14:53

        No, that’s a carrot cake.

      • 315 Professor VJ Duke April 25, 2014 at 18:09

I didn’t know carrot cake had molasses in it!

      • 316 Susan P April 25, 2014 at 18:35

You can’t sometimes almost never tell.

      • 317 Professor VJ Duke April 25, 2014 at 18:49

        Ha! The things I learn.

      • 318 Susan P April 25, 2014 at 18:55

        Uh-huh. I know that feeling.

      • 319 Professor VJ Duke April 25, 2014 at 19:01

        *nods wisely like Susan does*

      • 320 Susan P April 25, 2014 at 19:11

That will be a quarter for usage. ;)

      • 321 Professor VJ Duke April 26, 2014 at 15:43

I love quarters! I’ve collected all the state quarters, you know.

      • 322 Susan P April 26, 2014 at 16:00

I didn’t know that. I am seriously disappointed in the quarters, though. They used to be silver and now they are mere tokens.

My son has all of them, too.

      • 323 Professor VJ Duke April 26, 2014 at 16:15

I know. That’s disappointed. Much better when they were silver. I collect those, too.

Awesome! He sounds coolio, you know.

      • 324 Susan P April 26, 2014 at 19:12

He is very coolio, Dan is. He lends me his adventure DVDs and talks to me on the phone almost every week. He is my favorite son.

      • 325 Professor VJ Duke April 27, 2014 at 18:56

He’s an adventurer! That’s cool. I know Bethy’s the oldest, right?

      • 326 Susan P April 28, 2014 at 14:02

Bethy, then Sarah (whom we call Susie because we can) and Dan.

      • 327 Professor VJ Duke April 28, 2014 at 15:15

Nice! That’s coolio. I think it’s awesome that Sarah is Susie. You know, I love nicknames.

      • 328 Susan P April 28, 2014 at 16:21

When we came back from Portugal, she was five years old or thereabouts. She made a solemn decree that only people who knew her from Portugal could henceforth be permitted to call her Susie. Everyone else would be required to call her Sarah. Her middle name is Susanna.

      • 329 Professor VJ Duke April 28, 2014 at 19:13

Rats and a Heifer! I’m left out now. It wouldn’t be safe to break the rule, would it?

      • 330 Susan P April 28, 2014 at 19:37

Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances. She has made the occasional exception. But she’s tough. She teaches second grade.

      • 331 Professor VJ Duke April 28, 2014 at 19:41

Aha! What’s she teach? That might tell what I need to know. I’d probably just call her Mrs. or Ms. or Miss (never know the difference between those) Lastname.

      • 332 Susan P April 28, 2014 at 19:46

She teaches children. I don’t know how she would deal with so much formality.

      • 333 Professor VJ Duke April 28, 2014 at 19:52

The professor would shock her socks off, then!

      • 334 Susan P April 28, 2014 at 19:55

You and Sarah would get along just fine. She’s a lot like her mother.

      • 335 Professor VJ Duke April 28, 2014 at 20:11

        That’s so interesting. Bethy’s not?

      • 336 Susan P April 28, 2014 at 20:21

Bethy (and thank God for somebody in the family like her) is a lot like my mother-in-law. A hard worker and a compassionate heart, and lots of love. And there is no better woman on earth than my mother-in-law. We share some attributes. And I love her to pieces.

      • 337 Professor VJ Duke April 28, 2014 at 20:29

That’s so nice. Sounds like a close family. I could tell most of that from having speaks with Bethy.

      • 338 Susan P April 28, 2014 at 22:19

Well…I homeschooled for 19 years. We didn’t ever lock ourselves in the house 24/7. We were out and about volunteering and visiting places. We went to Williamsburg and a lot of other places as you probably know from reading Bethy’s blog.

      • 339 Professor VJ Duke April 29, 2014 at 17:38

Yes, I remember that. Seems very interesting.

      • 340 Susan P April 30, 2014 at 11:51

Definitely not an absent minded Professor then.

      • 341 Professor VJ Duke April 30, 2014 at 16:04

        Sometimes, I think.

      • 342 Susan P April 22, 2014 at 23:54

I’ll give you a heads up when I’m ready to do them.

      • 343 Professor VJ Duke April 23, 2014 at 00:48

        Many thanks!

Although always fabulous, today’s edition of the PL Times is particularly spectacular, I feel! The proverbs are all excellent and very true. I believe it is easier to build a dam to stop water than true passion, but that is just my opinion. And wise men should make sense! Yes!

Interesting what you say about the cliff, Professor. I often get an urge to jump off of high places. I never do, because I am afraid of heights.

Mr Ratherquite is noble to defend his Ladies but did he stop to consider that maybe the Ladies would like a little drink too?

Good to see Smiles and Veezler on good form. Do pass on my best :)

    • 346 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 13:21

Thanks, Lucy! I agree about building a dam, for sure. But that has nothing to do with the professor and Amelia, you know. I asked Shnodgrate about that.

Yes! But, if you had wings…would you?

That’s what I was thinking. I mean, I’m sure the Ladies wouldn’t have minded a bit. Sometimes he’s too protective, you know.

      *laughing* I will! They’re odd…

      • 347 PorterGirl April 14, 2014 at 13:29

If I had wings I would jump off everything! And I would fly around all day, singing songs and amazing small children. I feel sure I would not fear heights if I had wings.

I know the Professor is not romantic (for you have said so many times) but maybe Amelia is in love with you? I think she is. I know what women are like, from personal experience. I mean – because I am one.

      • 348 Professor VJ Duke April 14, 2014 at 18:08

*laughing* I love that lots. I think it might be fun to scare people to. For instance, you could fly at cars on a bridge. That might fetch them.

Oh dear. Is she? How can you tell? The professor is also wicked, you know.

      • 349 PorterGirl April 15, 2014 at 05:19

She gets so angry with you! A sure sign, I think.

Yes! Scaring people would be such fun. Also swooping out of trees and stealing picnics :)

      • 350 Professor VJ Duke April 15, 2014 at 19:25

But isn’t that a reason to put her to death?

*laughing* And then have our own picnic!

      • 351 PorterGirl April 15, 2014 at 20:01

        Yes! To both comments :)

      • 352 Professor VJ Duke April 16, 2014 at 00:39

        Haha, awesome!
