What is Sad Humor?

I think this professor promised to do a post about Sad Humor.

It’s a wonder of a topic, in truth.

For…what is it?

Well…here’s some thoughts.

One, Sad Humor could be humor that’s sad in nature, but still makes one laugh. Maybe Pathetic Humor would be a better phrase for this type of Sad Humor.

Two, Sad Humor could be humor that is so low–so base–that it makes one cringe. “This,” you might say, “was horribly sad humor.” It’s just not funny, you see.

Three, Sad Humor could be humor that makes you sad after you hear it. Here’s an example: Suppose an ant is invading the professor’s home, and the professor crushes him in self-defense. This is funny at first, because the ant’s invasion failed so miserably. It’s ultimately sad, though, because the invasion didn’t bloom into a war. (Maybe not the best example.)

Four, Sad Humor could be something this professor just made up.

Punchy Family, I fear that I’m leaning towards the last one. Any thoughts on the matter?

Just a picture: A bunch of fish going to school.

Sad humor sounds like an oxymoron.

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 16:03

      It does. Dadblamery?

      • 3 Jackie August 1, 2014 at 16:25

No way! Oxymorons are punchalicioius. So that makes sad humor punchalicioius too.

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 22:08

*laughs* Aha! Then all’s well. thank you, Jackie!

      • 5 Jackie August 1, 2014 at 22:09

Absolutely! Have a great weekend, Professor!

      • 6 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 22:22

        You too, Jackie!

  2. 7 AileenSantos July 31, 2014 at 20:42

So challenging to write humor at all, let alone sad humor. I’m sadly not humorous but I try. You, professor, are the first to greet me in the blogosphere so I wanted to say hello (dryly and without any humor at all).

    • 8 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 00:05

Hello to you as well! You know, I think the professor is a dull fellow. It’s hard to be funny. It really is. How should we learn, do you think?

  3. 9 Lady Cheetah July 31, 2014 at 20:03

Your third thought really brings it hime. I mean after all if the ant doesn’t pay rent or mortgage shoild they be allowed to stay? Ok. So off topic but crushing the ant in self defense was humorous indeed.

    • 10 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 00:04

*laughs* Right on! But, Lady, do you think it’s possible for the ant to crack a deal? I mean, what could he offer?

      • 11 Lady Cheetah August 1, 2014 at 00:43

He can only offer a colony of his fellow cousins to come join him. They are pretty stong in carrying their food you know. It’s just that they wouldn be able to carry your groceries and that is not a fair deal.

      • 12 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 15:57

Very good point. We could ‘nuke’ them. Then they’d bee ten sizes bigger!

  4. 13 The Dancing Rider July 31, 2014 at 19:07

Ha, ha “fish going to school”. I take Number Four – the professor has made this up. But. I do think there really IS sad humor, and mean humor!

    • 14 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 00:03

*smiles proudly* *laughs* Fish are always on there way, you know. Yes, I did make it up. What’s mean humor?

      • 15 The Dancing Rider August 1, 2014 at 20:40

Oh, that’s where it’s got that edge of mean-spiritedness — like most stand-up comedians have.

      • 16 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 22:22

        I need to learn this!

  5. 17 Me, Myself and DIY July 31, 2014 at 11:11

    Sadly, I don’t find this post funny. ;) (j,k)

    • 18 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:24

*laughs* I know! What the dadblamery is it? I sure don’t know!

  6. 19 Catherine July 31, 2014 at 04:46

Lovely picture! (random ones are always the best) And I think sad humor could be all of the top three in different circumstances. The professor had wonderful examples for all of them, so I’m back to square one- not being able to decide what Sad Humor is…

    • 20 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:21

Oh no! Hahahaha! This is dastardly at best. We haven’t accomplished the goal. What should be done? I’m not sure how to deal with Sad Humor, Catherine.

That’s a great picture! I think I”m in it, you know.

      • 21 Catherine August 1, 2014 at 15:09

I’m not sure either! Perhaps laugh about it? (Humorous circumstances tend to end that way.) But then if “sad” is implying that we shouldn’t laugh, I don’t know what to do.

        Really? How cool! Where?

      • 22 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 16:09

Yes, it’s a vexing matter. Let’s just laugh, anyway!

        Well, one of the fish!

      • 23 Catherine August 2, 2014 at 19:40

        Good idea!

Oh. How interesting…is the professor normally a fish?

      • 24 Professor VJ Duke August 3, 2014 at 22:39

Only sometimes. At least, I think I am sometimes.

      • 25 Catherine August 4, 2014 at 03:44

Hmm. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone else like that…

I’d love to be a fish! (sometimes)

      • 26 Professor VJ Duke August 4, 2014 at 13:21

        I’m odd, I know…

It might be fun. Maybe better to be a bird?

      • 27 Catherine August 6, 2014 at 23:43

*laughing* Everyone is odd, don’t worry.

Both! Or, you know, both at the same time. THAT would be cool.

      • 28 Professor VJ Duke August 7, 2014 at 14:27

*laughing* For sure! Why not? You could fly and swim…I’m game!

      • 29 Catherine August 9, 2014 at 04:38

Yay! If only we could do it.

      • 30 Professor VJ Duke August 9, 2014 at 14:31

        *bangs head on desk*

      • 31 Catherine August 12, 2014 at 04:08

        Hahaha! It’s really a pity.

      • 32 Professor VJ Duke August 12, 2014 at 12:55

        Dadblameit it is!

      • 33 Catherine August 13, 2014 at 03:08

We really must do something about it!

      • 34 Professor VJ Duke August 13, 2014 at 13:19

        Declare war…but on who?

      • 35 Catherine August 15, 2014 at 03:46

Oh, dear. That is a tough question…the mayor, perhaps?

      • 36 Professor VJ Duke August 16, 2014 at 18:36

Good! I think he deserves it, too.

      • 37 Catherine August 17, 2014 at 02:59

There, now we’re getting somewhere! We’ll declare war on the mayor. But I fear that in the long run it really isn’t far at all…because now we have to tell the mayor we’re declaring war on him.

      • 38 Professor VJ Duke August 18, 2014 at 11:46

Oh, that’s true. Dadblameit. Should we give the whole operation up?

      • 39 Catherine August 18, 2014 at 13:59

I think we should call an emergency meeting and then figure out what to do.

      • 40 Professor VJ Duke August 18, 2014 at 15:11

Should we bring DS to the meeting?

      • 41 Catherine August 20, 2014 at 04:52

Depends on if he would help or not! You see, he might be in favor of the war, in which case we could send him to tell the news to the mayor. But if he isn’t, then we shouldn’t bring him.

      • 42 Professor VJ Duke August 20, 2014 at 13:31

That’s true. He might be difficult. We’ll have to go alone. Us and our katanas!

      • 43 Catherine August 22, 2014 at 15:55

Sounds like an adventure! I do hope the mayor won’t be too upset.

      • 44 Professor VJ Duke August 23, 2014 at 16:48

        Ah, we don’t care!

      • 45 Catherine August 24, 2014 at 00:38

*laughing* Okay! That’s perfectly fine with me, since it’s one less thing to worry about!

      • 46 Professor VJ Duke August 24, 2014 at 17:49

Very true! Let’s forget about the brute.

      • 47 Catherine September 17, 2014 at 23:36

I’m sure he won’t mind if we do.

      • 48 Professor VJ Duke September 18, 2014 at 14:42

        Okay, then!

  7. 49 Angeline M July 31, 2014 at 02:08

I was leaning to the last one too, and fell down. If you just made all this up, then I fell for it.

    • 50 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:20

*laughs* Well, I admit, it all does come from the professorish brain. Is it all dadblamery, Angeline? Just tell me if it is. I can handle it!

      • 51 Angeline M July 31, 2014 at 14:21

It is…but that’s what makes it so punchy :)

      • 52 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 23:22

Good point…now I feel better! *smiles bigly*

  8. 53 erinkenobi2893 July 30, 2014 at 23:41

The fish going to school is sad humor… I don’t know why, it just is. (Maybe because they are headed straight for a shark?)

    • 54 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:19

*laughs* Do you really suppose they are?

      • 55 erinkenobi2893 July 31, 2014 at 14:07

        It’s possible.

      • 56 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 23:21

        Maybe Anakin is fishing, too.

      • 57 erinkenobi2893 August 1, 2014 at 12:11

*shudders* Caught by Anakin? What a horrible fate!

      • 58 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 16:05

The worst! What should be done?

      • 59 erinkenobi2893 August 2, 2014 at 12:36

We broadcast sounds into the water to warn the fish!

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke August 3, 2014 at 22:34

        Yes, let’s.

      • 61 erinkenobi2893 August 3, 2014 at 23:33

*hooks up sound system to underwater speakers*

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke August 4, 2014 at 13:10

        Now send the signal.

      • 63 erinkenobi2893 August 4, 2014 at 15:47

*sends out signal to warn the fish* *the fish swim away* YES! WE HAVE SAVED THE PLANET! X-D

      • 64 Professor VJ Duke August 4, 2014 at 23:38

        Now to see Anakin’s face…

      • 65 erinkenobi2893 August 5, 2014 at 14:38

*scuba dives and carefully examines Anakin’s hook and line without touching*

      • 66 Professor VJ Duke August 5, 2014 at 19:10

        Probably messed up, isn’t it?

      • 67 erinkenobi2893 August 5, 2014 at 20:13

        It looks ugly. (And illegal.)

      • 68 Professor VJ Duke August 6, 2014 at 13:28

        We should tell Obi-Wan.

      • 69 erinkenobi2893 August 6, 2014 at 14:48

Yes. And the Department of Fish and Game.

      • 70 Professor VJ Duke August 6, 2014 at 20:31

        Good deal.

      • 71 erinkenobi2893 August 6, 2014 at 23:12

        Idea?

      • 72 Professor VJ Duke August 7, 2014 at 14:24

        Who me?

      • 73 erinkenobi2893 August 7, 2014 at 17:08

        ….I don’t know what we were talking about…. :-P

      • 74 Professor VJ Duke August 7, 2014 at 18:34

I fear I lost it as well.

      • 75 erinkenobi2893 August 8, 2014 at 00:33

You said “Deal,” I think, and I thought you had misspelled “Idea”….?

      • 76 Professor VJ Duke August 9, 2014 at 14:27

Oh no. It’s just one of my strange phrases.

      • 77 erinkenobi2893 August 9, 2014 at 18:11

Ahhhh. :-P Like me spelling “permission” “persimmon.” I’ve never had a persimmon… I wonder if they’re delicious?

      • 78 Professor VJ Duke August 9, 2014 at 22:09

Me neither. I do wonder. We should stuff one down Anakin’s throat!

      • 79 erinkenobi2893 August 9, 2014 at 23:57

Ehh, I’d like to try one first.

      • 80 Professor VJ Duke August 10, 2014 at 18:13

Okay, we’d slice it up first.

      • 81 erinkenobi2893 August 10, 2014 at 18:16

        Good. :-P

  9. 82 Debbie July 30, 2014 at 23:23

LOVE the fish-going-to-school picture, though I’m not at all sure what it has to do with Sad Humor. Actually, I’m kind of leaning toward #4. Number 2 doesn’t make sense (if something’s not funny, it’s not humor); ditto for #3. Professor, you’re trying desperately to make me think today, aren’t you??!

    • 83 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:19

*laughing* Well…I was thinking, and that’s dangerous. You know, Debbie, I don’t think the picture has anything to do with anything. I fear that’s so. But humor…surely…it doesn’t have to be funny?

  10. 84 Micah Kipfer July 30, 2014 at 23:18

Perhaps the humour doesn’t make the humans involved sad, or deal with sad subject matter; but is just sad, from hard days at the office ‘n’ such.

    • 85 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:18

Aha! An excellent point not mentioned yet. You could be right. Do you think it’s so?

      • 86 Micah Kipfer July 31, 2014 at 14:31

Well, humour hasn’t said anything to me directly; but sometimes it gets that look in its eyes.

      • 87 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 23:23

*laughs* We should meet him. You and I should go together.

  11. 88 Simply Skeptical July 30, 2014 at 18:17

#2 comes close to sadistical humor. I agree about #3, but it reminds me of Salami anyway.

If only the fish knew where they were headed they might change their direction.

    • 89 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:09

Some good points. The whole matter is vexing, SS.

But do you suppose all fish go to school?

  12. 90 Sonya Solomonovich July 30, 2014 at 18:11

This makes me think of one of those tragic operas or Shakespeare plays where nearly everybody dies at the end. There is a point where I just think ok this is not tragic anymore, it’s funny. Do you think such things qualify as sad humour? Maybe it’s just humorous sadness?

    • 91 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:08

Right on, Sonya! It’s a perfect example. I remember laughing lots at Hamlet and feeling rather bad about the whole thing, you know? But…it does seem like sad humor, doesn’t it?

  13. 92 Doug Thomas July 30, 2014 at 17:36

Let’s say you swatted a fly with a fly swatter and the end result looked liked an exploded diagram showing how to reassemble a fly from parts…now THAT would be sadly humorous!

    • 93 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:01

*laughs* Great point. But flies…do stink.

  14. 94 FictionFan July 30, 2014 at 15:31

I suspect the Professor is right…

    • 95 Professor VJ Duke July 30, 2014 at 16:54

Rats! I feared so. Either way, I talked about Sad Humor when I reviewed A Kingdom Far and Clear. So, I thought I’d better follow up.

      • 96 FictionFan July 30, 2014 at 22:30

Ah, yes I remembered you using the phrase, but not the context. Goodness! That was a long time ago.

      • 97 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:16

Yes, a very long time ago! In fact, if I hadn’t been looking at the reviews to see how I did them (I forgot) I would have never written the post. That would have made me a liar, I suppose.

      • 98 FictionFan July 31, 2014 at 16:30

No! Just forgetful…which is hardly surprising behaviour from such an old Professor…

      • 99 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 23:31

Do you really think I’m old?

      • 100 FictionFan August 1, 2014 at 13:46

Do you really think I’m young?

      • 101 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 16:09

*laughing* Oh, you’re too smart for me! You’re too sharp. You need to fix that, young lady! Why of course I do!

      • 102 FictionFan August 1, 2014 at 18:22

*laughing* Smoothly negotiated, my dear Professor, very smooth!

      • 103 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 22:12

        *laughs and looks relieved*

  15. 104 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister July 30, 2014 at 14:52

I believe in sad humor. Either way it produces a smile whether up or down, I think. Sad humor was created for people who love Murphy’s Law.

I laughed and turned my head side to side over the fish headed to school. Only you, Duke. Only you, which is what I adore about your mind. Thanks for the laugh, Duketh.

    • 105 Professor VJ Duke July 30, 2014 at 16:53

Ooo! What’s Murphy’s Law? See, I knew a frown and smile were the same thing…

*laughs* You’re very welcome! Don’t you think I’m in there?

      • 106 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister July 30, 2014 at 20:45

Stop it! I’m not explaining it to you!!!! I’m far to gullible. And yes, they are the same thing…

Do you go to school every day? If yes, then I shall look…

      • 107 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:15

Rats and a Heifer! *throws a spoon at Audith*

        Thankfully, I don’t. *smiles proudly*

      • 108 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister July 31, 2014 at 17:35

Haha!!! *catches your spoon* Grabs what your eating. What is this, Duke?

        Hmm. I…well…am surprised. *sparkles*

      • 109 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 23:58

        Horse cr*p. (Hold your ears!)

        You are? Why?

      • 110 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister August 1, 2014 at 03:17

Glad I didn’t eat it. (Too late!)

You are a professor, you know. Most have a school…

      • 111 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 16:01

*laughing* See how bad I am?

        Well…not that sort of professor.

      • 112 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister August 1, 2014 at 19:55

We should have a contest….I may be worse.

Haha. Good then the fish swimming in last place in the picture is definitely not you.

      • 113 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 22:19

        No! Impossible.

        No…I’d be in the front!

      • 114 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister August 2, 2014 at 03:19

You can’t possibly now that, Duke!

Yes, you would because you swim and run fast. *shining bright*

      • 115 Professor VJ Duke August 3, 2014 at 22:33

I’m not sure if I can swim fast!

      • 116 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister August 4, 2014 at 02:07

        That’s right. You sink.

      • 117 Professor VJ Duke August 4, 2014 at 13:21

        Yes, quite so.

      • 118 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister August 4, 2014 at 15:34

You should swim more and become stronger. Unless you don’t have arms. Then I’m going to get you a motorized board so you can go fast.

      • 119 Professor VJ Duke August 4, 2014 at 23:35

Stronger? I do pushups, pullups, situps, and weight lifting…but I don’t swim!

      • 120 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister August 5, 2014 at 00:47

You sounded like MM there…*smiles sweetly* * giggles a lot* I’m taking you swimming!

      • 121 Professor VJ Duke August 5, 2014 at 13:42

        No! Unless there’s a slide somewhere…

      • 122 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister August 5, 2014 at 21:48

I’ll find you the longest, darkest, fastest slide ever…

      • 123 Professor VJ Duke August 6, 2014 at 13:35

        That’s perfect! Thanks, Audith.

      • 124 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister August 6, 2014 at 15:44

        *smiles* Of course!

  16. 125 E. July 30, 2014 at 14:20

I think all of the definitions are acceptable.

    • 126 Professor VJ Duke July 30, 2014 at 16:53

Doesn’t that make it all confusing?

      • 127 E. July 30, 2014 at 17:16

I don’t think so. Many words have multiple meanings. It just takes understanding.

      • 128 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 12:54

And you know the professor lacks understanding.

      • 129 E. July 31, 2014 at 13:26

Pish posh, I don’t believe that. *wicked grin*

      • 130 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:27

        Half way believe?

      • 131 E. July 31, 2014 at 13:30

Nope! Not even a little bit. *all-knowing smile*

      • 132 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 23:19

An all-knowing smile? Rats! Can I have one, too?

  17. 133 AmyRose July 30, 2014 at 14:02

I like the fish going to school. That made me LAUGH! Love, LadyP

    • 134 Professor VJ Duke July 30, 2014 at 16:53

*bows* Do you see the professor in there?

      • 135 AmyRose July 30, 2014 at 17:26

Why YES! You are the leader of the pack! Yeppers! I sure do!

      • 136 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 12:55

        Yeppers…is yeppers like peppers?

      • 137 AmyRose July 31, 2014 at 15:01

        Kind of.

      • 138 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 23:23

        Now I’m confused.

      • 139 AmyRose July 31, 2014 at 23:43

But you can’t be. That is NOT possible. No. Wait. It IS possible because a Professor by nature is befuddeld and muddled. OK. We are right on track here then. :-)

      • 140 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 00:06

Yes, we are! *laughs* Do I ever make sense?

      • 141 AmyRose August 1, 2014 at 00:40

Not really, but I didn’t want to hurt your feelings or nothing. I kind of like that you know. Not making sense. It makes things fun. Hehehehehehehe

      • 142 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 15:57

        *laughing* *shakes LadyP’s hand*

      • 143 AmyRose August 1, 2014 at 16:01

I am SO glad I made you *laugh*, Professor, for laughter is magic, did you know this? Yeah, it gets down into your Heart and into your cells and makes them all HAPPY. Powerful Magic!!!

      • 144 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 16:11

But I’m heartless. So it goes into my liver.

      • 145 AmyRose August 1, 2014 at 16:26

EEEK! No, you are not heartless, that just does not set right with me a t’all. Your heart is big and it is full of Love. Don’t you fret, not one bit. I won’t tell, if you don’t. It is our little secret between two friends. *smiling*

      • 146 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 22:08

But my heart was scorched in the desert! It subsequently fell out.

      • 147 AmyRose August 1, 2014 at 22:23

Dream on. You wish. Wrong. Again. Sorry. Wrong answer.

      • 148 Professor VJ Duke August 3, 2014 at 22:28

But I buried it. What’s that mean, then?

      • 149 AmyRose August 3, 2014 at 23:46

That means it’s gonna grow roots and become a tree. That’s what!

      • 150 Professor VJ Duke August 4, 2014 at 13:13

        A heart tree…a wonder.

      • 151 AmyRose August 4, 2014 at 13:21

A Wonder indeed. A VJ Tree. Cool.

      • 152 Professor VJ Duke August 4, 2014 at 13:24

        I don’t like it!

      • 153 AmyRose August 4, 2014 at 14:44

What’s not to like? You sound grumpa today! Geesh! I would be doing cartwheels if I had a tree named after me!

      • 154 Professor VJ Duke August 4, 2014 at 15:25

Really? I’ll name one for you, then.

      • 155 AmyRose August 4, 2014 at 16:17

        K. It MUST have the word PINK in it though.

      • 156 Professor VJ Duke August 4, 2014 at 23:42

        No!

      • 157 AmyRose August 5, 2014 at 01:41

        YES!

      • 158 Professor VJ Duke August 5, 2014 at 13:48

        How about red?

      • 159 AmyRose August 5, 2014 at 15:18

        NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

      • 160 Professor VJ Duke August 5, 2014 at 19:12

        *runs away*

  18. 161 walt walker July 30, 2014 at 13:30

I thought sad humor was what John Cleese suffers from these days. It’s when you wake up one day to realize that all the things you’ve been laughing at and making fun of for so long really aren’t all that funny anymore, but perhaps even a little bit tragic.

    • 162 Professor VJ Duke July 30, 2014 at 16:52

Walt, I do say, you just did a splendid rip there! Do you see? And it’s a good point.

      • 163 walt walker July 30, 2014 at 23:20

        Whasis? Who, me? A rip?

      • 164 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:18

Yes, sir, you did! It was brilliant too.

  19. 165 PorterGirl July 30, 2014 at 13:24

Nice fish. But apart from that, this post really got me thinking. Sometimes sad things can be funny too, or maybe I just laugh at them to make them seem less sad. That might be a cruel part of my nature. I have a friend called Neil, who is officially the unluckiest person in the world. So extreme and regular is his bad luck, I just fall about with laughter when the latest misfortune befalls him. Poor Neil. He even has his own ‘sad’ theme tune that we sing at him when he appears. Being one of my friends isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

    • 166 Professor VJ Duke July 30, 2014 at 16:51

*laughing* Does Neil mind too much? I’m always laughing at sad things, too. Perhaps it is to make it less sad. You know, when I turn to thinking, dadblamery occurs!

      • 167 PorterGirl July 30, 2014 at 19:18

Thinking is a dangerous thing. But dangerous is fun! Neil doesn’t mind. Our mockery is the least bad thing that happens to him.

      • 168 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:10

*laughing* I feel for Neil now! Oh well. We need to find a way to making thinking less dangerous and profitable, I think.

      • 169 PorterGirl July 31, 2014 at 13:13

You’re right Professor. Thinking is hazardous. Maybe do it while wearing a special suit? Or a onesie.

      • 170 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:26

        OOo! What’s a onesie?

      • 171 PorterGirl July 31, 2014 at 13:28

The best invention EVER. You are supposed to sleep in them but I wear mine for other everyday activities. Like a romper suit for grown ups. I’ve got four and I look amazing in all of them.

      • 172 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 23:18

*laughs lots* I’d look crappy in them, but I’d still like it! It sounds professorish, doesn’t it?

      • 173 PorterGirl August 1, 2014 at 07:12

*big laughs* No one looks crappy in a onesie! If you wore your hat too you would look like some kind of super hero!

      • 174 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 16:02

        *laughing* Profesor Man!

      • 175 PorterGirl August 1, 2014 at 16:24

        LOVE IT!!

      • 176 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 22:07

        *laughing*

  20. 177 L. Marie July 30, 2014 at 13:24

I also lean toward the latter and what InfiniteZip said. But I especially resonate with the ant story, because I’ve been practicing “sad humor” all summer with ants trying to invade my home.

    • 178 Professor VJ Duke July 30, 2014 at 16:52

Interesting! You mean you won’t give the ants just a corner of space?

  21. 179 Susan P July 30, 2014 at 13:18

Sad humor might be a pun that is so bad that one might say to you, “That was really sad.”

    • 180 Professor VJ Duke July 30, 2014 at 16:49

Oh dear. The professor was ripped to the heart! *falls down and dies*

      • 181 Susan P July 30, 2014 at 17:42

        Never say you like puns!!??

      • 182 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:04

I like puns! But how do they go?

      • 183 Susan P July 31, 2014 at 17:10

        Giggling. They go giggling.

      • 184 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 23:40

        *laughs* No?

      • 185 Susan P August 1, 2014 at 19:34

        What?

      • 186 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 22:16

        Dadblameit!

  22. 187 InfiniteZip July 30, 2014 at 13:04

A crying clown with a painted happy face.

    • 188 Professor VJ Duke July 30, 2014 at 16:49

Aha! Such a good point. So…is it a conundrum, then?

      • 189 InfiniteZip July 31, 2014 at 09:04

I might think so. than again, I don’t like clowns much, maybe that is why they cry:)

      • 190 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 13:24

Yes…and aren’t the red noses scary?

      • 191 InfiniteZip July 31, 2014 at 15:14

        Oh yes, very very…

      • 192 Professor VJ Duke July 31, 2014 at 23:25

We should pluck them off, Zippy.

      • 193 InfiniteZip August 1, 2014 at 02:15

Yes, we should. Can we use your sword?

      • 194 Professor VJ Duke August 1, 2014 at 15:58

        Sure thing. Let’s do it.
