Criblets, poetry, and Schwarz makes wine? Interesting…
That poem was an oddity. I can’t figure out what the ending is meant to mean.

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 20:14

That’s Mr. Hercules for you. But isn’t his style very different?

Schwarz tried too…I wouldn’t trust it if I were you.

      • 3 erinkenobi2893 October 29, 2014 at 13:19

        Yes, indeed…
I don’t drink. Alcohol is disgusting.

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 13:41

        What about pop?

      • 5 erinkenobi2893 October 30, 2014 at 00:20

Soda? Occasionally. Not often. It makes the back of my throat feel weird sometimes, and then I hiccup. Forcefully.

      • 6 Professor VJ Duke October 30, 2014 at 13:24

*laughs* Yeah, I think I know what you mean.

      • 7 erinkenobi2893 November 1, 2014 at 19:34

        Feels weird. :-S

      • 8 Professor VJ Duke November 2, 2014 at 23:50

        *nods professorishly*

  2. 9 Susan P October 24, 2014 at 18:00

It looks like a short week there. Dear me. I hope the Professor is all right.

    • 10 Professor VJ Duke October 26, 2014 at 19:04

I think he is…he’s unsure of what to do, really.

      • 11 Susan P October 26, 2014 at 20:32

I presume you aren’t planning on jumping over tall buildings.?

      • 12 Professor VJ Duke October 27, 2014 at 13:11

        Well…maybe if I had a cord?

      • 13 Susan P October 27, 2014 at 15:49

And a parachute. Don’t forget the parachute.

      • 14 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 00:28

        Yes, yes. But…maybe not.

      • 15 Susan P October 28, 2014 at 12:52

What if you land head first?

      • 16 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 20:13

Will there be a head, then?

      • 17 Susan P October 28, 2014 at 23:05

That depends on whether or not you land head first.

      • 18 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 13:30

        I’ll land…on my paws.

      • 19 Susan P October 29, 2014 at 14:21

You might like to pause before you do that.

      • 20 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 20:47

        I don’t see why.

      • 21 Susan P October 29, 2014 at 22:45

You need to make sure your claws are sharpened.

      • 22 Professor VJ Duke October 30, 2014 at 13:18

        They are!

      • 23 Susan P October 30, 2014 at 13:47

George said they need a little something.

      • 24 Professor VJ Duke October 30, 2014 at 22:03

        Does George still play soccer?

      • 25 Susan P October 30, 2014 at 23:03

He was playing just tonight. Do you want him on your team?

      • 26 Professor VJ Duke October 31, 2014 at 18:44

Yes, I think I would. He seems spicy at it.

  3. 27 bardictale October 23, 2014 at 20:36

Fireflies are wonderful- Smiles Riot is absolutely right!

    • 28 Professor VJ Duke October 24, 2014 at 15:56

I think you like the chap.

      • 29 bardictale October 25, 2014 at 18:11

Will you send him over to my inn, then? You are welcome to join him as well.

      • 30 Professor VJ Duke October 26, 2014 at 19:10

Absolutely! I’d love to come. And we could share some cherry green tea!

      • 31 bardictale October 27, 2014 at 08:29

Cherry green…? Okay. What type of cake would you like?

      • 32 Professor VJ Duke October 27, 2014 at 13:16

Yes! Fruity green teas: your favorite. Umm…what do you recommend, Bard?

      • 33 bardictale October 27, 2014 at 19:49

        What do you like?

      • 34 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 00:30

Oh, all sorts of things…cherries, vanilla, velvet bugs.

      • 35 bardictale October 31, 2014 at 08:04

        Velvet bugs?

      • 36 Professor VJ Duke October 31, 2014 at 18:54

        Yes, what are they, Bard?

      • 37 bardictale November 1, 2014 at 21:57

I would assume that they are small, bug shaped chocolates.
Or maybe a type of cookie.

      • 38 Professor VJ Duke November 3, 2014 at 00:00

I like the idea of bug shaped chocolates.

      • 39 bardictale November 3, 2014 at 07:59

What should they be filled with?

      • 40 Professor VJ Duke November 3, 2014 at 15:39

        Cherry sauce?

      • 41 bardictale November 4, 2014 at 08:26

        Too runny. Maybe liqueur.

      • 42 Professor VJ Duke November 4, 2014 at 14:32

        Is it tasty?

      • 43 bardictale November 5, 2014 at 11:43

In my opinion, yes. Why else would I offer it?
You’d probably prefer green tea inside, no?

      • 44 Professor VJ Duke November 5, 2014 at 13:49

Hmm…that probably wouldn’t go too well, would it?

      • 45 bardictale November 5, 2014 at 20:32

Does chocolate go with green tea? If it does, then it should be okay.

      • 46 Professor VJ Duke November 5, 2014 at 21:28

I don’t think so…what do you think, Bard?

      • 47 bardictale November 6, 2014 at 15:16

        I don’t like green tea, so…not.

      • 48 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2014 at 19:51

        Let’s skip it, then.

  4. 49 Debbie October 23, 2014 at 19:23

Well, as you can see, I’m really LATE to the party this week — sorry about that, Professor.
As for the Proverbs, I’m not sure any of these three are to my liking this time. I like fireflies, but sometimes the dark scares me. You can make a bed and not lie in it, or you can lie in bed and not make it when you get up. Perhaps walking to the store for water isn’t such a good idea, especially if you have to travel LONG distances.
I’d guess beaver fur would be warmer, particularly because it’s waterproof. Or is it??

    • 50 Professor VJ Duke October 24, 2014 at 15:56

      No problem!

I see what you mean…proverbs can be so vexing. Well…I’d guess the beaver fur is maybe warmer, but I don’t know!

  5. 51 Angeline M October 23, 2014 at 03:10

Seems I have a lot reading to catch up on…I’ve been out playing in the dark with fireflies. I wonder if the type of wine sent to France is sort of like blood types; I wonder if California winemakers need to worry.

    • 52 Professor VJ Duke October 24, 2014 at 15:55

Aha! It’s a possibility. Do they have fireflies in France?

      • 53 Angeline M October 25, 2014 at 00:28

        Mais bien sur, la luciole.

      • 54 Professor VJ Duke October 26, 2014 at 19:07

        Nice!!!! You can speak French?

  6. 55 Catherine October 22, 2014 at 03:13

Proverb number one is very good. Nice and to the point, and true!

I wouldn’t know about furs, I’m afraid. Did the people discussing it in Daddy Salami’s hut come to a conclusion?

Dick Hercules’s poems really do keep getting better and better. I think this is my favourite!

    What does “criblet” mean?

    • 56 Professor VJ Duke October 22, 2014 at 19:30

      Aha! You’re right.

I’m not sure they did. Maybe they went with penguin furs?

He is something…don’t you suppose Smiles Riot would like it?

Well, it means someone who never leaves the crib. Like Darcy. He was a criblet.

      • 57 Catherine October 28, 2014 at 03:20

Penguin furs? I’ve never felt penguin fur…

        I think he would!

        Aha. That makes sense now.

      • 58 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 20:06

Good point. Maybe they’re made out of rubber?

*laughs* And you just accepted that about Darby!

      • 59 Catherine October 30, 2014 at 14:09

        Hmm…maybe.

        What do you mean?

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke October 30, 2014 at 22:07

Well, I’m making fun of Darby, and you don’t mind!

      • 61 Catherine November 1, 2014 at 20:26

Ahh, I see. Well, I think I can bear it because it wasn’t TOO harsh. :)

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke November 2, 2014 at 23:56

Did you ever grab his wig off?

      • 63 Catherine November 5, 2014 at 03:02

*gasp* I have not! Have you? (It would be rather entertaining, though, I must say. Perhaps I ought to try it.)

      • 64 Professor VJ Duke November 5, 2014 at 13:48

Definitely give it a go! I do wonder why he wears one. (FF doesn’t think he does.)

      • 65 Catherine November 7, 2014 at 02:56

I will! (If I ever meet him) I’ve never really thought about whether he even has one or not. Maybe he doesn’t…

      • 66 Professor VJ Duke November 7, 2014 at 19:59

Oh, he’s very bald. It’s a shady fact about Darby, you know.

      • 67 Catherine November 9, 2014 at 23:39

*laughs* Interesting! I’d never heard that before.

      • 68 Professor VJ Duke November 11, 2014 at 13:14

Only the professor knows it! And I guess Lizio does too, now.

      • 69 Catherine November 14, 2014 at 02:03

        That’s why! Who’s Lizio?

      • 70 Professor VJ Duke November 15, 2014 at 16:18

        Isn’t that Darby’s girlfriend?

      • 71 Catherine November 16, 2014 at 23:52

Aha, yes. *laughing* Though I’ve never heard her called Lizio. I like it, though!

      • 72 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:10

Yes, it’s all the talk around here.

      • 73 Catherine November 22, 2014 at 21:27

Interesting…I think I’ll start calling her that, too.

      • 74 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 13:33

Please, do! (Did you get rid of your blog, Catherine?)

      • 75 Catherine November 26, 2014 at 17:50

*laughing* I will! (I’m not sure what happened…I changed my username, and then things started getting weird.)

      • 76 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2014 at 20:44

        Oh dear! Dadblame wordpress!

      • 77 Catherine November 30, 2014 at 00:46

I know! Sometimes WordPress is…not very nice.

      • 78 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2014 at 20:02

        We should have them spanked.

      • 79 Catherine December 2, 2014 at 04:54

Agreed! Except…I don’t know who they are.

      • 80 Professor VJ Duke December 2, 2014 at 20:17

*laughing lots* That’s a good point! Rats…we’re foiled again.

      • 81 Catherine December 4, 2014 at 04:45

Nuts…this seems to happen a lot. We really must find out who they are.

      • 82 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2014 at 19:15

That’s the story of my life.

      • 83 Catherine December 7, 2014 at 00:03

*laughing* It seems to be mine, too.

      • 84 Professor VJ Duke December 8, 2014 at 14:31

*shakes head* Rats and a Heifer!

  7. 85 rolerrol October 21, 2014 at 15:41

I am starting to get an idea Professor…..haha

    Rolain

    • 86 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 23:30

Yes! And what do you make of it?

      • 87 rolerrol October 22, 2014 at 08:09

I need to read one more post and I will able to tell you……..!!!!

        😀

      • 88 Professor VJ Duke October 22, 2014 at 19:32

*bows* That’s fair enough, I say.

  8. 89 Julie Harris October 21, 2014 at 12:21

Your proverbs are superb… I love fireflies!! And any poem about coffee is awesome!

    • 90 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:37

But coffee is so bitter, Julie!

  9. 91 xoxosanaz90210 October 21, 2014 at 04:52

I like punchy proverbs!! They are indeed very punchy. My favorite was the one by Merlin. He is a very punchy-ish guy.
P.s. throughin is a great word!!

    • 92 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:37

He is, isn’t he? How do you picture him?

It is! I must needs use it know.

  10. 93 Simply Skeptical October 21, 2014 at 00:10

#2 is interesting. Is it backwards somehow? Zaubarer needs his head examined; not unlike some other PLer’s. (Laughing) Does Walt like pancakes?

    • 94 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:36

Well, I”m not sure if Mr. Walt does. He might. Do you, Walt?

  11. 95 MissTiffany October 20, 2014 at 23:28

Your prodigal commenter/reader/follower has once again returned. Really, I must have taken directions from Schwarz or something, to be gone so long.

I must say Smiles’ proverb is my favorite. I don’t quite get Howell’s.

Throughin is the most marvelous word I’ve heard all week. (even though it hasn’t been a long week yet).

I makes me smile to be reading about the PL once again. Hope you are well, Professor.

    • 96 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:36

Hi Tiffany! Don’t worry about it. *laughs* It’s great to have you back! You were missed.

Smiles is an interest, for sure. I do wonder what he means by it, though.

*laughs* It is! We should make it a word.

I am! How are you doing?

      • 97 MissTiffany November 5, 2014 at 00:40

:) I am well, Professor. Keeping busy, as usual. Working on lots of projects at once (probably too many, including NaNoWriMo.) Attended Comic Con, and am looking forward to seeing Lion King on Broadway this weekend. Good things are happening!

      • 98 Professor VJ Duke November 5, 2014 at 13:45

        That sounds greatly exciting!

      • 99 MissTiffany November 5, 2014 at 23:54

        It is! Greatly much. :)

      • 100 Professor VJ Duke November 6, 2014 at 13:44

        *nods*

  12. 101 Sonya Solomonovich October 20, 2014 at 21:38

    What is a criblet?
And is Dr. Zauberer really an indian?

    • 102 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:34

Well, Sonya, someone who won’t get out of a crib, I think. Or something like that.

      Nah…he was just mouthing off.

  13. 103 The Lite Rider October 20, 2014 at 20:51

John’s proverb wins this week. But I did enjoy all.

Hmmm, wonder what Schwarz might be tinkering with in wine….

On the basis of size, I figure a beaver fur would be warmer. Also it can repel water.

I found the conversation vexing. Again. Dr. Z is so weird. And Bud. Well Bud usually calls him on it.

Coffee with names. I have none for mine! :)

    • 104 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:32

Yes, I say they were creative, for sure.

I know, right? Maybe he puts flowers in it. I think I might do something like that. I mean, flowers and wine sounds tasty, right?

      What is a mink exactly?

Bud isn’t afraid to look…well, to be bold and rude, I guess.

      Not even bill?

      • 105 The Lite Rider October 21, 2014 at 21:34

Flowers might not be too bad, what with all the “notes of ….” wine descriptions.

A mink is a very cute little mammal.

I suppose bill would work. ;-)

      • 106 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 23:35

        *laughs* Yes…like a carrion flower.

You’re right: a ferret-like beast! We shouldn’t take its fur then.

        *nods*

  14. 107 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 20, 2014 at 19:52

I’m not sure what happened but my response just went nuts, so I’m trying again. I’m not sure how it happened, Duke, but I’m really enjoying Smiles. More than ever, actually. I could use a run in the dark chasing fireflies. I used to do that a lot growing up. However, we would catch them and rip their lights off to use as wedding rings. Twas mean now that I think back on it. Poor fireflies. I have to go with Johnny’s proverb, mostly because he’s correct, but also because he lives near me here in Texas and has proven to be quite knowledgeable. Smart man, like you, he is. *Yoda wink*Oh, and I like that Merlin is trying to keep us healthy. *smiles*

Nappy and wine goes with Schwarz like cheese…
I will go with a mink fur being warmer only because I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mink. Truly it must be a beaver’s fur cause he plays in cold water.

Sounds like a naughty indian to me…

Hmm. Intersting coffee poem. Mine couldn’t be more black either. Preferred. Plus, I’m left confused. Throughin is a great word. Love it!

We may all have a few of those who hang around…they’re often times family, huh?

    • 108 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:28

Oh yes. Smiles is a nice guy. I think you’d like to eat lunch with him. Twas not mean! That would be a cool pastime, I think. I bet the bugs don’t care, you know.

Oh no, the professor is dull.

      Schwarz and cheese? *laughs*

I’d like to play in cold water.

Isn’t black coffee hard to drink?

      Yes…or pets!

      • 109 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 21, 2014 at 19:25

I think I’d like to know what he likes for lunch. Jellybeans? A cool pastime? Duke…they may care a little about dying.

You’re dull, again? Thanks for catching me up.

        Wine and cheese…

*packs a bag and a picnic* Let’s get outta here.

No, not for me. I grew up sitting around the table watching grownups drink black coffee, so when I decided to drink it with them I took it black, as well. Didn’t know any better and its way less calories anyway.

        Pets…yeah. For sure…

      • 110 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 23:31

That’s a great guess, but I don’t know for sure. Well, I bet…they’re just bugs.

        I’m always dull.

        Oh…see? Dull.

        But why?

        Well…does Mr. Warrior like it?

        *nods*

      • 111 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 22, 2014 at 02:33

        Yes, they’re bugs, of course.

        Yep.

        Okay.

You said you wanted to play in cold water. *unpacks everything*

        No…can’t stand the smell.

      • 112 Professor VJ Duke October 22, 2014 at 19:27

        Maybe I’m a bug–we can’t know, for sure.

Yes…but then…I won’t be able to feel my legs.

The smell isn’t half bad…but I think I’m with him there.

      • 113 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 22, 2014 at 20:23

You can be a bug, if you’d like, Duke. Just be a talking bug.

Yes, and that is a problem, I suppose, however, it wouldn’t stop me.

Yeah, one has to carry a toothbrush, mouthwash, mints and gum to enjoy coffee. Hardly seems worth it, really.

      • 114 Professor VJ Duke October 24, 2014 at 15:50

        Or a stink bug.

        Huff-Hum!

Unless one really likes coffee. I like it sometimes with desert.

      • 115 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 24, 2014 at 20:01

We have love bugs here…seems to suit that you’d have stink bugs and I’d have love bugs. *laughing lots and lots*

I really like coffee. You should have more dessert then…

      • 116 Professor VJ Duke October 26, 2014 at 19:06

*laughing* Isn’t that something? I bet stink bugs would kill love bugs!

I should. I had some green cherry tea at my class today.

      • 117 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 27, 2014 at 02:29

*stares blankly* I thought so… poor love bugs. You’re so WICKED!

Class? Tell me about that, Duke.

      • 118 Professor VJ Duke October 27, 2014 at 13:14

Well, maybe not, too, because stink bugs are veggie eaters.

Yes! I’m studying Revelation at the Bible study. Rather interesting. And scary!

      • 119 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 27, 2014 at 13:31

Oh, of course. You would know.

Yes, that could be scary, I suppose. I didn’t know you had a bible study. We just finished James…a funny bloke, that guy.

      • 120 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 00:23

        *smiles proudly*

James! Nice. Yes, he sure was. I actually just got involved in this study a few months back.

      • 121 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 28, 2014 at 12:47

Do you like the study? I think that’s pretty cool of you.

      • 122 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 20:10

I love the study. Prophecy fascinates me.

      • 123 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 29, 2014 at 03:54

*smiles* I think that’s great. Prophecy, huh? *considers picking your mind a bit*

      • 124 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 13:36

Definitely do it! We can have a discussion. Though, be warned, I’m rather dull on it.

      • 125 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 29, 2014 at 19:42

I’m fairly certain you could talk circles around me, Duke. However, I’d enjoy listening to you.

      • 126 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 20:58

        Oh, I bet not.

      • 127 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 30, 2014 at 02:46

Bet so, uh huh, uh huh, uh huh….! I’m not that educated. You could teach me.

      • 128 Professor VJ Duke October 30, 2014 at 13:28

And I’m sure you could teach me, too.

      • 129 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 30, 2014 at 20:08

No one likes a know-it-all… but I would try.

      • 130 Professor VJ Duke October 30, 2014 at 22:16

You would. Just went to an apologetic course, too.

      • 131 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 31, 2014 at 04:06

        Apologetic course???? What? Why?

      • 132 Professor VJ Duke October 31, 2014 at 18:52

Yes! Well, ’cause it’s super cool, and quite free at church, so…

      • 133 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister October 31, 2014 at 20:03

Oh. I’ve never heard of that sort. What do you do?

      • 134 Professor VJ Duke November 1, 2014 at 17:22

It’s basically defending my faith, I think.

      • 135 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 3, 2014 at 00:23

        Nice. Good for you, too.

      • 136 Professor VJ Duke November 3, 2014 at 15:35

        *bows*

  15. 137 L. Marie October 20, 2014 at 17:42

How nice to meet Janine and Nigel. My coffee is Alex. He’s pleased to meet you too.
I really like John’s proverb! I’m still trying to think of one.

    • 138 Professor VJ Duke October 20, 2014 at 19:06

*laughing* Alex! That’s a perfect name for a coffee. Does he change all the time? His name, I mean.

I can’t ever think of one either. It’s harder than it seems!

  16. 139 John W. Howell October 20, 2014 at 17:20

Thank you for the mention and my proverb. As far a fur is concerned, I think the Beaver takes the nod. Their fur needs to stand a water test which no self-respecting mink would go near.

    • 140 Professor VJ Duke October 20, 2014 at 19:04

My pleasure! *bows* Aha! So…one could swim with beaver fur, then?

  17. 141 Lady Cheetah October 20, 2014 at 17:00

Oh these proverbs! Number two is deep and number three is wise, my oh my, I just can’t decide.

I am so digging the word criblet. It sounds like cool slanh.

    • 142 Professor VJ Duke October 20, 2014 at 19:04

      But you must, dadblameit!

*laughs* Isn’t it awesome? It refers to someone who stays in their crib. I bet you know a few adults like this.

      • 143 Lady Cheetah October 20, 2014 at 19:48

I shall not choose but what I will that will I do: remain betwixt and between two opinions…I think.

Criblet. Yes. You have confirmed what I thought it meant. That person sounds more deformed or crib-let-ologically challenged, wouldn’t you sat? Bahahahahaha!

      • 144 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:26

*laughing* The way you put that was awesome, so…I have to agree, I fear.

I would! *laughing* Lady’s so vicious!

    • 145 Susan P October 24, 2014 at 17:57

      I agree with Lady Cheetah.

      • 146 Professor VJ Duke October 26, 2014 at 19:04

        But…but…that’s cheating!

      • 147 Susan P October 26, 2014 at 20:31

No no no. It is not. It is a consensus.

      • 148 Professor VJ Duke October 27, 2014 at 13:11

Rats. They can be so vexing, you know.

      • 149 Susan P October 27, 2014 at 15:48

Well, I suppose that they can be, but then so can other things.

      • 150 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 00:28

        Like…candy that’s sour, for instance.

      • 151 Susan P October 28, 2014 at 12:52

I’ll stick with my candy corn.

      • 152 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 20:13

I think I like that stuff.

      • 153 Susan P October 28, 2014 at 23:04

Oooh yeah! That’s why I don’t have any in the house.

      • 154 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 13:30

        It’s dangerous!

      • 155 Susan P October 29, 2014 at 14:20

It is, especially when you are eating it off the cob.

      • 156 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 20:47

        *laughing*

  18. 157 InfiniteZip October 20, 2014 at 15:45

But fireflies are the best !!! Number one wins, I’m just shedding my tiny light on the fact :)

    • 158 Professor VJ Duke October 20, 2014 at 19:03

*laughing* Do you catch them and pull out their lights?

      • 159 InfiniteZip October 20, 2014 at 20:35

If they knew that, they wouldnt come round anymore…shhhhhh…..

      • 160 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:31

        *laughing and keeps mum*

  19. 161 FictionFan October 20, 2014 at 14:38

Huh! I see Shnoddy didn’t deem my proverb worthy of consideration. I shall retaliate by refusing to pick a favourite…

    But what does ‘criblet’ mean?

    • 162 Professor VJ Duke October 20, 2014 at 19:03

Crap! I forgot to send it in! So sorry, FEF! Can you forgive me? (I feel so bad!!!)

Well, it means…well, it refers to a person who…sorta lives in a crib. Maybe like Schwarz? *ducks*

      • 163 FictionFan October 20, 2014 at 21:37

Humph! A likely story! I shall leave the contributions to your creative friends in future… *gathers up the tattered shreds of her self-esteem and flounces off* (Do you feel better now?)

        *shoots ducks*

      • 164 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:34

No! I feel horrible! What can I do to fix it? (You do know, you’re very creative. Well, you don’t know, but you are.)

        *laughs* In the duck blind?

      • 165 FictionFan October 21, 2014 at 15:13

I don’t think you can fix it. *dismal face* Unless… *brightens* …well… Nah, you wouldn’t do it! *woebegone* (Haha! Thank you! But Shnoddy doesn’t agree…)

        With Schwarzy?!? *winks naughtily*

      • 166 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 23:29

What? What can I do? You must needs tell me. (That’s because he’s gotten your hate mail.)

        Not the professor?

      • 167 FictionFan October 22, 2014 at 14:19

Well… a little skit starring my Schwarzy might help me to recover… I miss him terribly, you know. It’s years and years and years and years since we last heard his voice. But if that’s not possible, then I suppose you’ll just have to send me a lorry-load of chocolate instead…
(I don’t hate the befuddled old fool! He can’t help being the way he is…)

        Awww! Both!

      • 168 Professor VJ Duke October 22, 2014 at 19:36

Aww…yes, that’s true. Hasn’t been a skit in ages. I’ll see what I can do. Of course, the professor needs you to recover, so…

        You must pick!

      • 169 FictionFan October 22, 2014 at 23:21

*begins to smile again* Yay! I shall be sitting here, eagerly anticipating… *PEP face*

Aw, but that’s so mean! It’s like asking me to choose between Tommy and Tuppence! But if I must then… I choose the Professor! (But don’t tell Schwarzy!!!)

      • 170 Professor VJ Duke October 24, 2014 at 15:55

        Bet you’ll hate it!

*smiles bigly* But…would you take Tommy or Tuppence?

      • 171 FictionFan October 24, 2014 at 18:21

Why? Are you going to be cruel to my Schwarzy again?

No, no, no, NO!!!! I refuse to choose!!!

      • 172 Professor VJ Duke October 26, 2014 at 19:05

I wouldn’t do that! We’re buds, the two of us.

        Choose Tommy.

      • 173 FictionFan October 26, 2014 at 23:34

        Except for your wicked jealousy…

Poor Tuppence is heart-broken now. You’re lucky you can’t hear her piteous little miaows…

      • 174 Professor VJ Duke October 27, 2014 at 13:13

I have to be. How would this professor be without his PEP?

Poor thing. Give her some chocolate.

      • 175 FictionFan October 27, 2014 at 17:10

You do! Fortunately, while you’re both equally c&a, the Professor remains marginally more fluffy, so his PEP will not be defecting to the Schwarzy Fan Club… for the moment…

Tchah! You think I’d give up some of my chocolate just to cheer her up?!?

      • 176 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 00:30

        What’s fluffy mean again?

The question is: would FEF give some chocolate to the professor?

      • 177 FictionFan October 28, 2014 at 01:45

It means steel on the inside, cuddly on the outside, and growly when tummy is tickled…

I would give the Professor my last Rolo…

      • 178 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 20:03

*shocked face* So you can’t know for sure about the professor, then…

I love those! You must hate them, though…

      • 179 FictionFan October 28, 2014 at 23:17

Which part is the Professor protesting about? I’m pretty confident – especially about the growly part…

And I was trying to be so sweet too! Doesn’t the Professor remember the last Rolo ad campaign?

      • 180 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 13:33

The growly part! You can’t know…for sure!

Oh, that’s right. Weren’t they outlawed in Scotland or something?

      • 181 FictionFan October 29, 2014 at 15:50

Well… get someone to tickle your tummy then, and we’ll find out! (But I’m very sure…)

Eh? Were they? I was thinking more of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxSABXPsGDY

        or possibly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mR6xvzXpEVo

      • 182 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 20:53

        Won’t do it!

*laughing lots* They were made in the 30s!

      • 183 FictionFan October 29, 2014 at 22:48

Hmm… I may have to trick you into it… *thinks deeply*

*gasps* What exactly might you be implying?!? I’ve just changed my mind – I’ll eat it myself!!

      • 184 Professor VJ Duke October 30, 2014 at 13:21

Don’t burn your mind on it, though. I say, it can’t be that important.

        Umm…oh dear. Don’t do that!

      • 185 FictionFan October 30, 2014 at 17:19

Oh, it is! It’s more important than… baseball!! I should be able to experiment while we’re on our trip to Mars…

Oh, OK then. But only just because, OK? *mutters about eternal youth*

      • 186 Professor VJ Duke October 30, 2014 at 22:14

The World Series is going on, now that you mention it. Experiment? That’s…scary.

        *laughs* I know you’re young!

      • 187 FictionFan October 31, 2014 at 02:03

Is it? Oh I might try to watch a game then, if it’s being shown over here. How many nations are in the World this year? *wicked face*

        Oh, don’t worry – you’ll enjoy it…

        Phew! Very!

      • 188 Professor VJ Duke October 31, 2014 at 18:50

All the important ones! *laughs* It might be over now, I’m not sure.

        Really? You can’t be sure.

      • 189 FictionFan October 31, 2014 at 22:24

*shocked face* How dare you! Scotland will be invading America tomorrow… *chuckles* I don’t mean to be rude, but you’re rubbish at sports reporting, you know…

Well… I’ll enjoy it, anyway, and that’s the important thing…

      • 190 Professor VJ Duke November 1, 2014 at 17:28

Tomorrow? Tell them to remember their claymores, if they’re to have a chance. I love how Brits use the word ‘rubbish’. I’m going to have to start, I think.

        Now, FEF, don’t be self-centered.

      • 191 FictionFan November 1, 2014 at 20:45

They will, and they’ll have dirks too! And who knows what else they might be hiding in their sporrans! You should – it’d sound so cute in a dinky little American accent.

        *laughs* Who? Me? As if…

      • 192 Professor VJ Duke November 2, 2014 at 23:59

Nice. I’ll take a few dirks and claymores. Dinky?!!!!!

        Yes, it is a wonder.

      • 193 FictionFan November 3, 2014 at 18:20

        Dinky. *nods emphatically*

      • 194 Professor VJ Duke November 3, 2014 at 21:10

        What’s dinky mean?

      • 195 FictionFan November 3, 2014 at 23:53

        Sorta…like cute & adorable really…

      • 196 Professor VJ Duke November 4, 2014 at 14:27

*laughs* Too bad I don’t have one, then.

      • 197 FictionFan November 4, 2014 at 17:03

        Oh yes you do…!!

      • 198 Professor VJ Duke November 5, 2014 at 13:38

        I’m accent-less.

      • 199 FictionFan November 5, 2014 at 17:29

        Uh-huh! *chortles*

      • 200 Professor VJ Duke November 5, 2014 at 21:27

        *growls*

      • 201 walt walker October 20, 2014 at 23:54

        Professor!!! You said “crap.”

      • 202 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:36

*gulps* Rats! It was supposed to be rats!

  20. 203 Bethy October 20, 2014 at 13:43

I do like the third proverb!
The word of the week is an interest also. Is there a dictionary?

    • 204 Professor VJ Duke October 20, 2014 at 19:01

In the PL? I suppose so… Is that word even in the dictionary?

      • 205 Bethy October 20, 2014 at 19:27

Well it would have to be a PL dictionary. That’s why I asked because I wasn’t sure if one existed.

      • 206 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:23

I bet there is one. I think Mr. Magi put it together.

      • 207 Bethy October 22, 2014 at 12:53

That makes sense. I guess there aren’t many copies though.

      • 208 Professor VJ Duke October 22, 2014 at 19:33

I’ll send you one. I stole MR. Magi’s.

      • 209 Bethy October 25, 2014 at 01:12

Well thank you. Do you think it was advisable to steal Mr Magi’s though?

      • 210 Professor VJ Duke October 26, 2014 at 19:09

        Umm…probably not, huh?

      • 211 Bethy October 27, 2014 at 13:11

He doesn’t seem a safe person to mess with.

      • 212 Professor VJ Duke October 27, 2014 at 13:18

Well, here put it back for me.

      • 213 Bethy October 28, 2014 at 13:53

        Only after I read it.

      • 214 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 20:16

        Agreed! *handshake*

      • 215 Bethy October 28, 2014 at 20:29

You know there’s all sorts of fun words in here.

      • 216 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 13:25

        And Punchy ones?

      • 217 Bethy October 29, 2014 at 19:25

The punchy ones are the fun ones! Like goobldygook

      • 218 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 20:56

Aha! Now that’s a good one, but what’s it mean?

      • 219 Bethy October 31, 2014 at 13:04

        I think that’s what Daddy’s Salami’s hair looks like.

      • 220 Professor VJ Duke October 31, 2014 at 18:56

Right on. I’ve always been looking for something to describe it, and that fits the bill.

  21. 221 walt walker October 20, 2014 at 13:27

Any proverb by Smiles will win the day in my book. He is very wise, I think. In his own way.

    • 222 Professor VJ Duke October 20, 2014 at 19:01

But…is he wiser than Dick? I’m not sure.

      • 223 walt walker October 20, 2014 at 19:16

Well, I’m not sure how wise Dick is.

      • 224 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:21

I go back and forth myself, I fear.

  22. 225 PorterGirl October 20, 2014 at 13:26

Smiles’ proverb has to be the best this week, it is very good. The other two don’t make much sense in my mind. But then, I do have a funny mind.

I might be wary of drinking wine made by Schwarz, you know.

I think Beaver fur, although this is purely a guess as I have never worn either types of fur. But beavers are waterproof too, I think.

Do you know, I think Dick Hercules could really bring me round to the idea of poetry. This one is a cracker!

    • 226 Professor VJ Duke October 20, 2014 at 19:01

Which is a good thing. Now, Smiles does make a bit of sense. I wonder if he catches those things?

Yes, me too. Unless, of course, you saw him make it.

That’s a good point. Plus, wouldn’t the tail look stunning? I think so.

*laughs* I know! He makes me like it too.

      • 227 PorterGirl October 20, 2014 at 19:21

He must do, I think. He is a vexation, but a good one.

I make my own wine. I will drink his wine if he drinks mine. What a fun evening that would be!

The tail would be super. I wish I had a tail. For balance, and lashing people with unexpectedly.

        It is a revelation!

(There is a members only post up tomorrow – in case you have forgotten, the password is —-)

      • 228 Professor VJ Duke October 21, 2014 at 14:23

        I agree with that!

Do you really? Sweet! Now, I’d try that for sure.

Yes. Exactly. It would make a good war weapon. Man I wish I had one, too!

        Great word.

        (I remembered! *proud professorish face*)

      • 229 PorterGirl October 22, 2014 at 07:32

I make apple, redcurrant, damson and blackberry wines. Sometimes all mixed together! It’s quite nice, you could definitely try some if you wanted.

Tails are the best things. And wings. I want a tail and wings!

        (You are super!)

      • 230 Professor VJ Duke October 22, 2014 at 19:32

*mouth drops open* Wow…you’re a lady of many talents. I’d love some! When I visit, of course.

Wings! There you are. I want a pair, too.

        *bows*

      • 231 PorterGirl October 23, 2014 at 07:26

There’s loads of it, I would appreciate assistance in drinking it, actually. So much fruit grows in and around my garden – I have to do something with it and there’s only so many pies one girl can eat!

      • 232 Professor VJ Duke October 24, 2014 at 15:55

*nods* I could eat lots of pies! You’re a gardner too. Which is very cool.

      • 233 PorterGirl October 24, 2014 at 16:29

The garden sort of grows itself, I just pick stuff and keep it tidy. I could very much do with some pie eating assistance, if you could spare the time.

      • 234 Professor VJ Duke October 26, 2014 at 19:03

        I could definitely! You’re a great cook, I believe.

      • 235 PorterGirl October 27, 2014 at 08:16

I am not too bad. People seem to like it when I cook for them

      • 236 Professor VJ Duke October 27, 2014 at 13:16

I’d like it! I’d probably cook weeds or something.

      • 237 PorterGirl October 27, 2014 at 14:22

Some weeds make quite good eating, so I hear. But maybe leave the cooking to me, you can entertain me with astonishing and unlikely tales.

      • 238 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 00:26

*laughs* That’s probably a safe bet. And you can read some stories to me! How’s your book coming along?

      • 239 PorterGirl October 28, 2014 at 08:18

I will certainly. The book is done, pretty much. But every time I think it is completely done – a tiny bit more editing needs to happen. Pah. But I keep going!

      • 240 Professor VJ Duke October 28, 2014 at 20:07

Yes! And I’m sure it will be excellent when it’s finished… (sure it’s excellent now). I can’t wait to get a copy, cuddle up by the wood stove (with some tea, maybe) and read!

      • 241 PorterGirl October 29, 2014 at 08:14

You will be the very first to receive a copy, have no fear, Professor! I will send some tea as well so you can get the full experience. I love wood stoves – so cosy!

      • 242 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 13:38

Perfect! But you must let me buy one. I must needs support it. We’ll also help it out on the PL as well. Tea! That would be awesome. And they are! Particularly great after sled riding! (If you do that.)

      • 243 PorterGirl October 29, 2014 at 14:13

        You are super kind, Professor.
I like sled riding, but we call it a sledge over here. Extra letters, you see. It makes them go faster *laughs*

      • 244 Professor VJ Duke October 29, 2014 at 20:44

*laughing* Now, I want to sled in England!

      • 245 PorterGirl October 29, 2014 at 22:02

I know the perfect places! Come over when it snows, we can sledge and eat muffins!

      • 246 Professor VJ Duke October 30, 2014 at 13:13

        Perfect!
