Train Tracks

Now this is true: The Punchy Lands will have another sort of “off” week, if that makes sense. Some things need finished up this week. But everything should resume regularly next week. And, yes, there will be a PL Special for Christmas, I think.

Unless, the professor gets covered in snow, or slips on the ice that is supposed to form.

But the analysts doubt that.

I should leave you with a few great pictures.

I think this is the track for the Polar Express. Or, rather, the Polar Express uses this track every so often.

There is a professorish car in this picture; though, sometimes, I have trouble finding it myself.

Wouldn’t this be a lovely place for a video?

Please be careful not to catch a cold, Professor! That would not be nice. Ooh, ice… I slipped the whole way to my car the other night. Sleet and freezing rain. Not a pleasant combination.
I think I may have been doing the whole Polar Express thing wrong. Rather than riding the train, I was in the habit of sneakily stealing Slepnir from Odin and galloping through the night, dramatically, in a Ranger cloak. What do you think…?

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2014 at 20:18

I hate ice! Especially black ice! *shivers just thinking about it* I’ll try, thank you!

I think that’s cool. What was the name of your horse?

      • 3 erinkenobi2893 December 19, 2014 at 01:42

I know! (Cap wholeheartedly agrees with that sentiment. I think he has PTSD, really. Poor man.)
My horse is named Obsidian. Well, technically it’s Rowan’s horse, but I borrow it when I don’t borrow Slepnir from Odin. Slepnir likes me, though. It’s a puzzlement. I borrow Obsidian or Glacier with Rowan or Winter’s permission; I borrow Slepnir without asking first. Heh. :-P It is my most scoundrelly habit.
And then sometimes I ask Will if I can borrow Tug. Tug loves me, but he loves Will more, and I’m okay with that. :-P

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke December 19, 2014 at 15:43

        He’s a great chap.

Wow! You’ve got a lot to choose from. I like Tug…just because.

      • 5 erinkenobi2893 December 20, 2014 at 16:18

        He is.
Tug is awesome. ^_^ Have you read his book yet?

      • 6 Professor VJ Duke December 21, 2014 at 23:03

        Alas, no.

      • 7 erinkenobi2893 December 22, 2014 at 16:51

        You should!!!

  2. 8 PorterGirl November 24, 2014 at 14:23

Nice car, Professor. I like the train tracks too.

    But… what kind of video?!

    • 9 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 22:06

Well, we were thinking a music video!!!!!!!!!!!

      • 10 PorterGirl November 25, 2014 at 08:20

        Yeeeeessssssss!

      • 11 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2014 at 14:16

        Really?

      • 12 PorterGirl November 25, 2014 at 14:31

Yes, it would be cool. Lots of room for dancing about and looking moody. There could be special effects and aliens.

      • 13 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2014 at 20:44

Aliens! What a wonder. Green ones, you know.

      • 14 PorterGirl November 26, 2014 at 08:27

        Green ones taste the best

      • 15 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2014 at 14:10

        You don’t say… *gags*

  3. 16 Susan P November 22, 2014 at 11:51

I’m so worried about Sandra. This is a real cliff hanger.

    • 17 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 13:31

      I thought you hated her?

      • 18 Susan P November 24, 2014 at 15:14

Well, that was before she disappeared.

      • 19 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 22:09

        I might disappear.

      • 20 Susan P November 25, 2014 at 00:44

        You already dun did that

      • 21 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2014 at 14:08

        Well…it wasn’t my fault!

      • 22 Susan P November 25, 2014 at 21:04

I told you to mind the people you hang out with.

      • 23 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2014 at 13:59

        Help me.

      • 24 Susan P November 26, 2014 at 14:16

George is working on a program for you.

      • 25 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2014 at 20:25

        Poor child.

      • 26 Susan P November 26, 2014 at 20:41

He’s not a poor child. You should see his piggy bank.

      • 27 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2014 at 20:49

        What’s he saving for?

      • 28 Susan P November 26, 2014 at 21:24

He wants to visit the PL

      • 29 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2014 at 19:43

He’d probably get on just fine with Bob.

      • 30 Susan P November 30, 2014 at 21:01

Is that where Bob moved to?

      • 31 Professor VJ Duke December 2, 2014 at 19:58

        I think he died.

      • 32 Susan P December 2, 2014 at 20:25

        Poor Bob.

      • 33 Professor VJ Duke December 3, 2014 at 15:39

Yeah, but he decided to run away.

      • 34 Susan P December 3, 2014 at 18:39

        That was his second mistake.

      • 35 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2014 at 18:58

        What was his first?

      • 36 Susan P December 4, 2014 at 19:24

I thought you knew the first…

      • 37 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2014 at 19:49

        I don’t!

      • 38 Susan P December 6, 2014 at 20:29

Well, George warned him about entering DS’ Cave.

      • 39 Professor VJ Duke December 8, 2014 at 14:27

        I didn’t know DS had a cave!

      • 40 Susan P December 8, 2014 at 14:34

Apparently, you haven’t been spending much time in the PL recently.

      • 41 Professor VJ Duke December 8, 2014 at 14:48

Oh yes…you might be right. *hangs head*

      • 42 Susan P December 8, 2014 at 14:53

No hanging of heads. You are missed, though.

      • 43 Professor VJ Duke December 8, 2014 at 20:56

        Missed? Why?

      • 44 Susan P December 8, 2014 at 21:48

Oh, well, a body gets used to a certain amount of entertainment per week and when it is suddenly cut back it creates a vacuum.

      • 45 Professor VJ Duke December 9, 2014 at 21:27

*hangs head* It is my fault, isn’t it?

      • 46 Susan P December 10, 2014 at 02:14

Stop hanging your head. You are doing what you should be I dare say. I’m just saying I miss the days of ore.

      • 47 Professor VJ Duke December 10, 2014 at 15:20

Yeah, me too. I’m working on it! Have great plans for TPL in 2015. Just as of now…I have to get another website running.

      • 48 Susan P December 10, 2014 at 17:03

Oh, good! With the black background I thought I was seeing the funeral of the PL.

      • 49 Professor VJ Duke December 10, 2014 at 20:51

Oh no. Just got a new background ready for Christmas week–which is next week. Two vids that week, btw.

      • 50 Susan P December 10, 2014 at 22:59

        *waits drooling*

      • 51 Professor VJ Duke December 11, 2014 at 19:09

        It’ll be scary!

      • 52 Susan P December 11, 2014 at 20:26

I love me some scary. I can’t wait from one week to the next to watch Grimm.

      • 53 Professor VJ Duke December 13, 2014 at 18:00

        And Person of Interest.

      • 54 Susan P December 13, 2014 at 18:43

Never saw that. Why is that?

      • 55 Professor VJ Duke December 15, 2014 at 03:49

I’m not sure. I kinda like it lots.

      • 56 Susan P December 15, 2014 at 12:47

        You don’t know? What?

  4. 57 The Lite Rider November 18, 2014 at 22:33

A Punchy Merry Christmas! Looking forward.

Hmmm Polar Express in the desert then. ;-) These photos look good for a vid…. I see the car!

    • 58 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 13:30

      Awesome!

Yes…isn’t it a great little thing?

      • 59 The Lite Rider November 24, 2014 at 13:59

        It sure is!

      • 60 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 22:03

Don’t you wonder how one can fit in there, though? It’s real small, I mean.

      • 61 The Lite Rider November 24, 2014 at 23:26

Well, it’s related to the PL, so no.

      • 62 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2014 at 14:03

That is such a good point, LR.

  5. 63 Simply Skeptical November 18, 2014 at 01:10

Yes, It would be a lovely place for a video. The mysterious Professor. How exciting! A P.L. Christmas special. Do you fit in that tiny car?

    • 64 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:20

      It’s much bigger closer up–promise.

  6. 65 icedmocha34 November 17, 2014 at 23:40

A Christmas special?! Sounds super beast! ♥

    • 66 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:20

*bows* Thank you! Should Schwarz be in it?

      • 67 icedmocha34 November 18, 2014 at 23:32

Of course! But so should Andrew Garfield.

      • 68 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 13:30

*bangs head on desk* Aren’t you past liking that chap?

      • 69 icedmocha34 November 25, 2014 at 22:58

Never! Though I’m a little more obsessed with David Tennant lately. I’ve been watching Dr. Who all week

      • 70 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2014 at 14:01

Crap! I still haven’t caught an episode of that. Rats. I’m not even sure who he is…

      • 71 icedmocha34 November 27, 2014 at 01:59

SOB! David Tennant is beautiful! The only downside is having to watch him die over and over again…

      • 72 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2014 at 19:49

Is he as beautiful as Andrew Garfield?

      • 73 icedmocha34 December 1, 2014 at 00:55

Beautiful-er. Sorry, Andrew, but he’s Scottish!!! And wears a kilt….and is the Doctor…

      • 74 Professor VJ Duke December 2, 2014 at 19:59

So, Scots are better than the English?

      • 75 icedmocha34 December 2, 2014 at 23:24

Hmm. It goes like this: Italian guys, Irish guys, Brishish guys, Scottish guys….*goes on*….American guys. :P

      • 76 Professor VJ Duke December 3, 2014 at 15:43

*laughing lots and lots* Well, at least Italians are at the top!

      • 77 icedmocha34 December 4, 2014 at 19:28

        YUP! I will marry a hot Italian man…. :P

      • 78 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2014 at 19:50

        Hmm…huff-hum!

  7. 79 walt walker November 17, 2014 at 21:18

If I were a villain I might tie a damsel to those tracks. If a were a villain. Which I am not.

    • 80 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:19

Well, but you did think of it. What if she screamed for help? Would you help?

      • 81 walt walker November 18, 2014 at 18:46

I would be torn, I think. I wouldn’t be very good villain if I were to undo my villainry. But maybe then I could be a hero, too?

      • 82 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 13:26

There you go. You do know, don’t you (I really hope you do) that heroes and villains are the same–besides the complex.

  8. 83 Lady Cheetah November 17, 2014 at 16:05

So, is this where you leave the bodies?

    • 84 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:19

*laughs* Yes…do you suppose anyone will find them?

      • 85 Lady Cheetah November 18, 2014 at 17:43

Too funny. Maybe not today but if it becomes an unsolved mystery, cold case or someone taking their dog out for a walk according to my intel, (The Next 48 hrs., Criminal Minds, GRIMM) they might be found. Just sayin…

      • 86 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 13:25

        Would I be blamed though?

      • 87 Lady Cheetah November 25, 2014 at 03:25

If you leave finger prints, yes.

      • 88 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2014 at 14:14

        I wear gloves! I think.

  9. 89 John W. Howell November 17, 2014 at 15:48

    Video? The Onion Fields maybe.

    • 90 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:19

Are there onions in the onion fields?

      • 91 John W. Howell November 19, 2014 at 13:44

        Just dead bodies

      • 92 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 13:30

        That sounds very creepy.

      • 93 John W. Howell November 24, 2014 at 14:07

        You think?

      • 94 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 22:05

Well, don’t you just a bit, bits, and little bits?

      • 95 John W. Howell November 25, 2014 at 00:01

        Yes it is true.

      • 96 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2014 at 14:04

        Still, I’d like to visit.

      • 97 John W. Howell November 25, 2014 at 14:14

The book “Onion Fields,” by Truman Capote tells a great story.

      • 98 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2014 at 14:17

        Is it horror?

      • 99 John W. Howell November 25, 2014 at 18:45

More of a trying to understand a couple of killers type book.

      • 100 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2014 at 20:49

That actually sounds really good. Serial-killers?

  10. 101 Susan P November 17, 2014 at 15:32

This made me think about Johnny Cash. You’re not going there, are you?

    • 102 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:18

Oh dear. Do you suppose so?

      • 103 Susan P November 18, 2014 at 19:24

        I know so.

      • 104 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 13:27

        But we don’t see how…

      • 105 Susan P November 24, 2014 at 15:13

        You are not supposed to.

      • 106 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 22:09

        Not fair, he screams.

      • 107 Susan P November 25, 2014 at 00:43

        He does not either.

      • 108 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2014 at 14:08

        I did!

      • 109 Susan P November 25, 2014 at 21:04

        I’m glad someone did.

      • 110 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2014 at 13:59

        *laughs*

      • 111 Susan P November 26, 2014 at 14:16

        :D

  11. 112 Painting Pundit November 17, 2014 at 15:12

I can see DS and company heading down these tracks to get into a bit of trouble!

    • 113 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:17

I know, right?! DS would be wearing a cowboy hat, too.

  12. 114 weggieboy November 17, 2014 at 15:07

I instantly thought, “Hmm. ‘Stand By Me’!”

    • 115 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:16

      The song?

  13. 116 Debbie November 17, 2014 at 14:58

Golly, Professor, I missed reading the PL Times this morning — funny how one gets used to certain routines, huh?

That said, I enjoyed seeing your photos. When Domer was little, trains were right up there with sliced bread! There’s something haunting about a train whistle, don’t you think?

Good luck with your “project,” whatever that is!

    • 117 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:16

Oh rats! It will be back–promise.

I do think! Especially if a ghost is ringing it.

      *bows* Many thanks.

  14. 118 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 17, 2014 at 14:55

*smiles* I love train tracks, Duketh. the professorish car, yes, well I spotted it and it is just perfect. You have the best of minds. *waves hello* Enjoy your day.

    • 119 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:16

You know, Audith, I’m beginning to think I’m mindless, too…is that bad?

      • 120 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 18, 2014 at 21:07

Mindless and heartless are both bad, but you seem to be good at both, so no worries.

      • 121 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 13:29

        Plus…souless!

      • 122 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 24, 2014 at 20:53

I can’t work under these conditions! You aren’t allowed to pile on, Duke.

      • 123 Professor VJ Duke November 24, 2014 at 22:15

*laughing* You do have your work cut out for you, madam!

      • 124 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 25, 2014 at 02:50

*starts a want ad for assistants* I didn’t sign up for this, you know. Pretty sure I’m sinking.

      • 125 Professor VJ Duke November 25, 2014 at 14:14

        Like the Titanic?

      • 126 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 26, 2014 at 06:06

If only my sinking could be done so romantically.

      • 127 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2014 at 14:09

That was hilarious, when they were freezing on that plank. She could have made room. *laughing lots*

      • 128 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 26, 2014 at 16:54

She should have made room. Jack is amazing…to have the love of an artist…I do love their story, though. *can’t imagine laughing*

      • 129 Professor VJ Duke November 26, 2014 at 20:36

She didn’t like him. She threw him away at the end, I believe. Though I’ve never seen the movie.

      • 130 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister November 26, 2014 at 22:30

Well, I suppose she did by not offering a spot on her board, but he wouldn’t have taken it if she had…in fact he tried and feared they would sink, so he stayed in the water watching her… *hands you a dagger* End me, Duke… what a sad story.

      • 131 Professor VJ Duke November 30, 2014 at 19:46

*laughing* He feared they’d sink! Think that already happened, dadblameit!

      • 132 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 1, 2014 at 04:17

Haha. I can’t argue that, actually.

      • 133 Professor VJ Duke December 2, 2014 at 20:00

        He could spit though.

      • 134 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 3, 2014 at 03:55

Let him try! I brought my camel with me.

      • 135 Professor VJ Duke December 3, 2014 at 15:44

        You have a camel?

      • 136 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 3, 2014 at 22:05

Yes, he sits on one of my tables this time of year.

      • 137 Professor VJ Duke December 4, 2014 at 19:04

        He’s a nutcracker, I bet!

      • 138 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 5, 2014 at 02:50

Well, no but send me one of those camels!!! My camel hangs out with three chaps who like to visit an infant with responsibilities!

      • 139 Professor VJ Duke December 6, 2014 at 20:03

Oh! *laughs* I get it! Cool. The wise dudes.

      • 140 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 7, 2014 at 04:50

        Yea…that’s those.

      • 141 Professor VJ Duke December 8, 2014 at 14:35

I’ve got a nativity! Did you see the movie Nativity?

      • 142 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 8, 2014 at 20:00

I haven’t seen it. Was it good?

I think it was. I like certain parts, that is.

      • 144 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 9, 2014 at 02:56

        Which parts, Sir?

      • 145 Professor VJ Duke December 9, 2014 at 21:32

Well, there’s a part with a snake in the water. That stands out.

      • 146 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 9, 2014 at 21:52

        Doubtful…

      • 147 Professor VJ Duke December 10, 2014 at 15:05

        I’m telling the truth!

      • 148 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 10, 2014 at 21:13

        *holds her ears*

      • 149 Professor VJ Duke December 10, 2014 at 15:05

You’d probably love the scene…’cause Joseph has to save Mary.

      • 150 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 10, 2014 at 21:13

        Sounds romantic.

      • 151 Professor VJ Duke December 11, 2014 at 19:03

        It is, yes.

      • 152 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 11, 2014 at 22:36

Thought so. *wonders why you would watch it*

      • 153 Professor VJ Duke December 13, 2014 at 18:04

I went to the movies to see it long ago. It’s not all romance. It’s the reason for the season as they say.

      • 154 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 13, 2014 at 19:00

Yes, exactly. I really never thought of the story as romantic, you know. You’ve shown me otherwise, which proves your romantic heart.

      • 155 Professor VJ Duke December 15, 2014 at 03:51

I bet they fell in love…especially after that trip to Egypt. I’m sure it was hard. Or again, they could have hated each other. Notice how Joseph sorta disappears…hey! You don’t suppose Mary bumped him off, do you?

      • 156 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 15, 2014 at 06:10

Oh, they were definitely in love and brought home quite the job, I’d say. Imagine how boring it was having such a perfect child…maybe all the time they had left over was used for arguing! We both know Joseph worked all the time and Mary did not bump him off…she was busy being thankful that Joseph was so forgiving, I’d say. *smiles* Imagine believing her story at the beginning.

      • 157 Professor VJ Duke December 15, 2014 at 21:03

*nods* I only wish I’d believe in Joe’s position. I probably would–I mean, if the angel came and all. But she had to live her whole life with that believed shame. What a wonder. I’d say it was probably worth it…I think. Maybe not.

      • 158 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 16, 2014 at 20:15

I mean if there’s an angel involved I don’t think anyone has a choice, correct? *smiles*
I’d say worth it. People’s opinions don’t matter!! *wishes she believed tthat with all her heart*

      • 159 Professor VJ Duke December 17, 2014 at 14:51

You’re right on. Believing…just convince yourself. Tell yourself it’s so.

      • 160 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 17, 2014 at 20:54

Makes sense to me, Duke. Hard, but doable.

      • 161 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2014 at 03:32

Yeah, I know. I go through this everyday.

      • 162 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 18, 2014 at 05:14

        Everyday? Duke…

      • 163 Professor VJ Duke December 18, 2014 at 20:07

*nods* I’m too stupid to remember, you see.

      • 164 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 18, 2014 at 22:59

If you’re stupid, what does that make me. I’m jello, now. I think you’re brilliant.

      • 165 Professor VJ Duke December 19, 2014 at 15:25

        *laughs* Then I’m…pudding!

      • 166 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 19, 2014 at 18:22

        Pudding…hmm. Okay!

      • 167 Professor VJ Duke December 19, 2014 at 22:00

        Cherry pudding!

      • 168 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 20, 2014 at 05:27

Is there such a thing as cherry pudding? I’ll be cherry jello. Suits a redhead, I think.

      • 169 Professor VJ Duke December 20, 2014 at 15:30

I’m not sure! You should invent it.

      • 170 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 20, 2014 at 18:23

Umm. No, I couldn’t possibly. It would involve liking science and I do not.

      • 171 Professor VJ Duke December 21, 2014 at 23:04

        Oh, come on!

      • 172 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 23, 2014 at 00:24

Nope. Not at all…I tried science today with one of my cookie recipes and it failed me. Science lies! Like you…

      • 173 Professor VJ Duke December 23, 2014 at 19:08

        I don’t lie neither!

      • 174 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister December 24, 2014 at 03:03

        Okay…

  15. 175 Angeline M November 17, 2014 at 14:40

I think the photos would be part of a great punchy video. And I do see your white car way back there; is that where you jump on the train? I hope things get finished to your satisfaction this week. I hope the Polar Express is just that…an express that whizzes through without stopping. Cuddle up.

    • 176 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:16

It is cold here. Yes! I jump on that train and usually bang my head. A tragedy, huh?

  16. 177 L. Marie November 17, 2014 at 14:36

Yes, that would be a lovely place for a video. It could either be zombie related or a western. Perhaps a train robbery? Or something along the Super 8 variety, which involved a train? (I recommend that movie if you haven’t seen it.)
Looking forward to a Punchy Lands Christmas. Or would it be a Very Punchy Christmas.

    • 178 Professor VJ Duke November 18, 2014 at 17:15

I haven’t seen it! *takes out list and writes it down* All good ideas. I could see John Wayne riding there, you know.

      *laughs* Both!
