Professorish Thoughts

What’s the first thing that pops into your mind when you see this?

DSC00960

For me, it depends on the day.

First day: “Wow, someone destructive scribbled all over that.”

Day 2: “The binder is really ugly.”

Third Day: “It’s in the key of D.”

Same sort of thoughts with this one.

DSC00959

Though you must admit it’s much neater. The binder is still ugly.

Now, this picture here is an interest.

DSC00961

The first thing this professor notices, personally, is the tissue; then, my mind is off thinking about tissues and how the world would be a better place if they were red.

I think something about clarinets first, and then I look for patterns in the notes, because that makes them easier to play.

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke March 26, 2015 at 20:24

      Spot on. Patterns always help.

      • 3 erinkenobi2893 March 27, 2015 at 13:43

Yes… I think composers call them “movements.”

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke March 28, 2015 at 13:54

        That’s right!

      • 5 erinkenobi2893 March 29, 2015 at 23:57

        I LOVE MUSIC! :-D

  2. 6 Hazy March 7, 2015 at 07:35

First: It looks messy! No way I can ever play that. It’ll take me weeks just to figure out the notes. Second: It looks neater, you’re right! It’ll take me days to figure out the notes. Third: I’m so bad at notes, it’s hopeless. I think I’ll have some ice cream.

    Is the chair comfy?

    • 7 Professor VJ Duke March 9, 2015 at 00:18

The chair is ridiculously uncomfortable! *laughs* That is a lot of notes. I need a map dude to help me with it.

      • 8 Hazy March 9, 2015 at 02:21

Haha, I figured as much. You should maybe buy a pillow for the chair. Do that much notes make you a bit dizzy sometimes?

      • 9 Professor VJ Duke March 10, 2015 at 00:48

It sure does! And it fatigues the left hand, too. I should get a pillow. A black one, mind you.

      • 10 Hazy March 11, 2015 at 12:48

Oh, I bet it does! So many notes, so little time. And they’re all so near each other! Do you warm up and stretch your left hand? Black, of course!

      • 11 Professor VJ Duke March 11, 2015 at 21:58

I do at times…I should stretch more!

  3. 12 Ms. Vee February 26, 2015 at 00:03

Hi Professor. I thought music and “dancing” LOL!

    • 13 Professor VJ Duke February 27, 2015 at 12:54

Oh no! Not dancing…are you sure?

      • 14 Ms. Vee February 27, 2015 at 12:59

Perhaps you can stick with music. It appears you’re adamant about refusing to dance!

      • 15 Professor VJ Duke February 27, 2015 at 13:07

Well you would be to if you had two left feet!

      • 16 Ms. Vee February 27, 2015 at 13:10

        👡 good thing I don’t. I love to dance👠

      • 17 Professor VJ Duke February 27, 2015 at 19:38

But…what if you step on someone or a tack?

      • 18 Ms. Vee February 27, 2015 at 21:43

Ouch! Well I certainly hope that doesn’t happen.

      • 19 Professor VJ Duke February 28, 2015 at 23:53

        Yes, tacs hurt something awful.

      • 20 Ms. Vee March 1, 2015 at 06:46

        Indeed they do!

      • 21 Professor VJ Duke March 2, 2015 at 12:33

        Beastly things.

      • 22 Ms. Vee March 2, 2015 at 13:27

Look out! They’re coming for ya!

      • 23 Professor VJ Duke March 2, 2015 at 19:05

        Help me!

      • 24 Ms. Vee March 2, 2015 at 19:47

I will, although I’m not sure what to do!

      • 25 Professor VJ Duke March 3, 2015 at 13:02

Well, I think we should burn them all.

      • 26 Ms. Vee March 3, 2015 at 13:51

Good idea. What are we going to use?

      • 27 Professor VJ Duke March 3, 2015 at 18:39

        Kerosene?

      • 28 Ms. Vee March 3, 2015 at 19:29

        Wow! You’re tough Professor!

      • 29 Professor VJ Duke March 4, 2015 at 13:41

Oh yes! A mean warrior, mind you.

      • 30 Ms. Vee March 4, 2015 at 13:46

I don’t want to get on the wrong side of you.

      • 31 Professor VJ Duke March 4, 2015 at 14:09

        It’s probably bumpy there.

      • 32 Ms. Vee March 4, 2015 at 14:10

Oh..I can handle it. I’ve been through many bumps!

      • 33 Professor VJ Duke March 4, 2015 at 23:35

        The biggest bumps imaginable?

      • 34 Ms. Vee March 4, 2015 at 23:43

        Yes and boulders!

      • 35 Professor VJ Duke March 5, 2015 at 00:11

        I’m impressed!

      • 36 Ms. Vee March 5, 2015 at 00:52

        I have skills!

      • 37 Professor VJ Duke March 5, 2015 at 12:40

        Katana skills?

      • 38 Ms. Vee March 5, 2015 at 13:36

        No, that’s much too bloody!

      • 39 Professor VJ Duke March 5, 2015 at 18:41

Well, we can hide the blood in cans, if you like.

      • 40 Ms. Vee March 6, 2015 at 19:14

How are we going to do that?

      • 41 Professor VJ Duke March 6, 2015 at 21:36

        Just slush it all up.

      • 42 Ms. Vee March 6, 2015 at 22:15

        Yulk! Sounds gross.😨

  4. 43 Heartafire February 22, 2015 at 17:35

    102 comments…well, damn.

    • 44 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 12:22

      Hollie! You swored!

      • 45 Heartafire February 23, 2015 at 14:09

I am sorry, I was delirious.

      • 46 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 21:19

*laughing* It’s from swimming with the barracuda, isn’t it?

      • 47 Heartafire February 23, 2015 at 22:17

        that will make one swear.

      • 48 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2015 at 13:52

*shivers* And you’re not allowed to do that.

      • 49 Heartafire February 24, 2015 at 14:49

I have started a “swear” jar and must donate a dollar every time I speak a naughty word. You are a great influence Prof.

      • 50 Professor VJ Duke February 25, 2015 at 00:07

Goodness me! But we all know I’m very wicked, Hollie. The professor, after all, is a wicked warrior. What will you do with the money?

      • 51 Heartafire February 25, 2015 at 00:10

Donate it to “save the English language” my favorite charity.

      • 52 Professor VJ Duke February 25, 2015 at 00:27

        *laughing* I’m ruining the language aren’t i?

  5. 53 Catherine February 20, 2015 at 02:36

I personally thought “what a lot of notes!” And they’re very intimidating looking notes, too.

    And red tissues? Why?

    • 54 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 02:40

There is a lot of notes there! Bach’s mean, huh?

Cooler! Isn’t everything cooler when red? Except me, of course.

      • 55 Catherine February 20, 2015 at 02:50

Ooh, yes, Bach is tough. (Though I’ve only ever listened to his music)

I suppose red is rather a cool color. But blue is cool, too, don’t you think?

      • 56 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2015 at 20:03

        Tough and cool!

I do like it lots! Do you?

  6. 57 Nancy Loderick February 19, 2015 at 20:29

    Hi Professor,

So red is your favorite color, I take it? Based on this post and the red muffin post. Perhaps the music would look better if it were printed on red paper, or with red ink? But then it would be really hard to read, wouldn’t it?

    Nancy

    • 58 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 02:34

That’s true…and I was just about to say that anything that is red is the best it could be. For instance, a red hat is tops.

  7. 59 Julie Harris February 19, 2015 at 00:38

The first thing that pops in my mind is – is this in the key of D major or B minor?

    • 60 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 01:46

Hey, Julie! It’s in D major…but this being Bach…I think the key must change every note.

  8. 61 Veronica February 18, 2015 at 23:59

That is one convoluted mess of noise.. I wonder what it is saying? Maybe the professor knows, on another day

    • 62 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:27

Hey Veronica! Good to see you. Well, I promise, it sounds better than that. It’s a fugue, you know.

      • 63 Veronica February 19, 2015 at 01:34

You’re talking about something I know nothing about. A fugue? A what? Sounds messy. You’ll have to enlighten me.

      • 64 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 01:49

*laughs* Well, a fugue is this thing that Bach wrote. More appropriately a fugue is a contrapuntal composition in which a short melody or phrase (the subject) is introduced by one part and successively taken up by others and developed by interweaving the parts. Sounds horrid, huh?

      • 65 Veronica February 20, 2015 at 03:12

you’ve completely lost me. actually I was gone at ‘contrapuntal’.. but thanks anyway

      • 66 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2015 at 20:05

I think I lost myself too. I got that from the internet. Confusing, huh?

      • 67 Veronica February 22, 2015 at 01:19

        Very.
If you’re confused, then there’s no hope for me.

      • 68 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 12:16

Nah, you’re giving yourself a bad rap.

      • 69 Veronica February 23, 2015 at 23:09

if you knew me, then you’d know what I say is true

      • 70 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2015 at 13:53

        *holds ears* Won’t believe it!

      • 71 Veronica February 24, 2015 at 20:49

        You should believe it

      • 72 Professor VJ Duke February 25, 2015 at 00:17

        Well, if you insist.

  9. 73 The Lite Rider February 18, 2015 at 23:39

The first thing? No way I could ever read this. Yikes. I’ll stick to my beginner lessons. I did notice the tissue right away. I suppost that makes me weird!

    • 74 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:26

Funnily enough, LR, that’s what I notice first too about the pic. Too many notes, huh?

      • 75 The Lite Rider February 19, 2015 at 14:10

It looked like crazy stuff to me.

      • 76 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 02:02

Oh, it is. I think it’s driven me insane.

  10. 77 Louis from VA February 18, 2015 at 22:38

    Hmm… red tissues… Why red?

1st thought: ooh, lots of notes!
2nd thought: that’s not piano music.
3rd thought: do we get to hear the Professor play this piece?

    • 78 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:26

Because the Trojans wore red? I admit, it’s a bad reason.

      Too many notes!

      It isn’t…no bass clef, huh?

      Would you like to?

      • 79 Louis from VA February 22, 2015 at 18:30

        Trojan tissues… :D
Hey, I’d listen to you play it!

      • 80 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 12:25

*laughs* See? They’d sell liken nothing else!

Aw, that’s very nice of you!

  11. 81 Nimmi February 18, 2015 at 20:51

Wow! What a thought, Professor ;) My thought for the first one, Looks like a full music note with a decent binder. Second one is little confusing music note ;) Why you want tissues in red… White itself is great ;) What you say?

    • 82 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:25

*laughs* Thanks, Nimmi! I guess you’re right: the binder isn’t half bad.

White is okay…but isn’t red cooler?

      • 83 Nimmi February 19, 2015 at 10:27

Any time :) Hmm, why you want it red? What you say about pink, a little light one :)

      • 84 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 02:01

        But isn’t pink a girl’s color?

      • 85 Nimmi February 20, 2015 at 16:33

Not so. However, I guess it look much better then the red. Don’t you think??? Or else, my today’s mood is saying light green look much better ;) And it’s not a girls color too :P What say??

      • 86 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2015 at 20:14

Well…but pink, Nimmi! Pink! Like hot pink…I’m sure that’s a girls color. I love light green. And red! And black! And blue! And maybe a bit of gray.

      • 87 Nimmi February 21, 2015 at 20:20

        Hahahaha :D And I like YOU ;)

      • 88 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2015 at 20:32

        Aw… *blushes* Are you sure?

      • 89 Nimmi February 21, 2015 at 20:37

        100% :D

      • 90 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 12:13

Aw! That’s very sweet of you.

      • 91 Nimmi February 23, 2015 at 12:21

        You are so cute :)

      • 92 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 12:27

        *blushes and hides*

      • 93 Nimmi February 23, 2015 at 12:54

        <3

  12. 94 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 18, 2015 at 20:43

I don’t even know what to make of the first picture. I think the 5 year olds got to these notes and mushed them around. The music, maybe every note we reach in our good morning songs….

The second picture looks like Duke has worked his guitar magic on the above paper and found a more suitable home for his revamped tune.

The third picture has a horribly uncomfortable chair for you to sit in. I need to fix that, I think. A red tissue can be purchased… *drives to the store* (Do you often have nose bleeds?)

Thank you for sharing these photos, Duketh.

    • 95 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:24

You sing songs in the morning? That’s nice. Well…they’re a bunch of right and left hand fingerings messing up the page!

Well, that one is Pach’s cannon. And I did arrange it. It’s such a fun one to play. You’re good at this!

I know…the chair isn’t the best, is it? But one has to concentrate and not be comfy. -_- Which isn’t fair. Red tissues! Thank you. (Nah, not often at all…how about you?)

My pleasure. I thought you’d be a bit interested.

      • 96 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 19, 2015 at 04:17

How many right and left hands? They look to be mighty busy… I’m in somewhat of an awe at the moment.

*proud sparkle* It looks like your handwriting, you know. I’d find you anywhere. Play it for me, Sir.

No, tis an old cafe chair, I think. I rather like it, as it looks like something of an antique. Makes me think of home. A chair of torture, I suppose, then Duke. Doesn’t seem fair, but one can’t help falling in love with the chair that suits them. I did that with a jacket once. Yes, you’re very welcome. Looks for them in the mail on Tuesday. (Ok. Never had one.)

        *sparkles again* Yes, I am.

      • 97 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 01:56

One each, promise. Yeah, that’s the PFA…it’s supposedly difficult, and it is. But it’s fun to play. It’s not that bad. See, for this competition, they’ll be expecting stuff like that…and I’ll give them some…but! I have to get them moving. That’s what Pach is for as well as some others I arranged.

I will, if you’d like. I’m still getting the nag of it.

It is a nice chair. You should burn it for me. Was the jacket red? (Oh….well, if you were here, you might get them. Happens in the colder weather I think.)

      • 98 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 21, 2015 at 19:26

That is all so crazy interesting, Duke. I like listening to you explain your work. Makes me smile. You’re a billiant man.

I think it would be nice…some time.

The jacket was teal, I think. Leather. Red would have been way better. (Yes, of course..I remember.)

      • 99 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2015 at 20:30

Nah! I just do lots of music. It’s all I’ve ever done. That’s for sure. Audith, do you go to a big church?

        And scary!

Leather is the best kind, I’d say. (That’s right, you would.)

      • 100 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 22, 2015 at 04:29

I do go to a big church, Duketh.

        Maybe for you.

Yes, I suppose it is. (Yep)

      • 101 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 12:18

        *laughs* I figured. How big?

      • 102 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 23, 2015 at 15:50

Veryish big. We have a main campus and two other locations within our Bay area. Clear Creek Community Church is the name. Bringing Jesus to people in the four B area. From the Beach, to the Bay, Beltway to Brazoria county. Giggles. What a deal, huh? You can watch our services online and the music is great. You’d love it. I do when I can sneak in the have a listen. But I didn’t always go to a big church. And why did you “figure”?? *wonders what that means*

      • 103 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 21:23

Well, see, I just recently got involved in a rather big church, too. And…I’m not sure why I figured. Probably because you’re in Texas. Lots of big churches there. So…you don’t go to the services? Probably serving somewhere, if I know you! Do you have a guitarist there?

      • 104 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 23, 2015 at 21:39

Yeah, Texas has a lot of them. Not all are good churches, however. *warns* I do go when I can, but yes I serve a bunch so sometimes they need me to stay. We have a lot of guitarists, actually. Fifteen maybe…but they all take turns and sometimes there are four different ones on stage at the same time. With a full set of drums, and a piano. My favorite guitarist is this man who must have played in the seventies…he’s awesome. Long ponytail in the back, tall and skinny…looks like a rocker from back in the day. Love it. When he gets a chance to have center stage he’s fun to watch. Seems your purple photo from today was on a stage similar to what we have.

      • 105 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2015 at 13:45

Wow! Lots of guitarists. (I know what you mean: the larger churches can get corrupted easily!) Any finger style solo guys? I’m just very curious, see.

*laughs* Yes! That was at my church, actually. For Christmas! I know it doesn’t look Christmas-y…but well, I wasn’t the decorator.

      • 106 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 24, 2015 at 21:08

Finger style solo guys like the professor. Nope. No way. Not even close. However, their is a Bluegrass group of men who play a few times a year…super cool banjos. *swoons* They probably pick pretty well solo style, but never on stage.

*sparkles* I’m proud of you. Very cool. I thought it looked festive. Aww. What did you play?

      • 107 Professor VJ Duke February 25, 2015 at 00:23

That’s nice of you to say! You should invite me over to play. They probably wouldn’t let me. Bluegrass! I like the sound of that. I have a banjo somewhere…

*smiles bigly* O Come All Ye Faithful, Away in a Manger, and Joy to the World. (If I didn’t know better, I’d say I was repeating myself. *laughing*) It was different from what I usually do…

      • 108 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 25, 2015 at 03:55

Invite you over, as if you’re just across the street. Smiles. Why wouldn’t they let you?! Come then! You have a banjo? I want to see it at once! *stomps her foot in disbelief*

All such fantastic choices! (And you did…I’m so sorry. Laughs.) I’m sure everyone was pleased to hear you play. I would have been.

      • 109 Professor VJ Duke February 25, 2015 at 13:16

Well, I’m not too far. Just like half a country or so. Because…the church is huge! I do…I’ve got a banjo, mandolin, and uke…

It was my arrangement too. But I just got sick of playing it. That’s what happens. I bore of it after I play it 3 times.

      • 110 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister February 26, 2015 at 21:48

Half a country is correct. Tis huge, I know. Why haven’t you ever told me that! Well..you have mentioned the uke…which I want to hear you play.
        3 times!! I could listen 300 times.

      • 111 Professor VJ Duke February 27, 2015 at 13:06

I thought I did! I’ll do a post next week just for you about all that, if you’d like. *sighs* I’m becoming an open book. Rats!

Wow! Well, I’m honored. But it wasn’t that good!

      • 112 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister March 1, 2015 at 18:56

You will? You don’t have to be an open book, you know. Your secrets are fine. I shan’t pull them out of you, as they only confuse me more anyway.
Was too! *throws a fit of rage about*

      • 113 Professor VJ Duke March 2, 2015 at 12:42

*laughing* You know, I think that’s what people who know me in person think to?

        Was…probably not!

      • 114 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister March 2, 2015 at 22:02

        *frowns* Those poor souls…

        It was!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *roars*

      • 115 Professor VJ Duke March 3, 2015 at 13:15

Why? I think they like me. They’re just…confused.

        *stops* You’re right the sudden!

      • 116 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister March 3, 2015 at 21:48

And you like them confused. Awesome. I have no doubt they like you. You’re likable, Duketh.

        I know I am.

      • 117 Professor VJ Duke March 4, 2015 at 13:51

Confused is perfect. Gives me an edge, see.

      • 118 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister March 4, 2015 at 14:37

        Sigh. Yes, it does, Duke.

  13. 119 Simply Skeptical February 18, 2015 at 19:25

Oh the how the professor’s mind works. Now, why a red tissue is that in case of a fight and a bloody nose results? Or perhaps it’s to hide all those red lip stick kisses from the lady’s or, or, shall I say it: “Amelia”? (inquisitive)

    • 120 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:22

      Hey!!!!!!!!!! I oughta slug you!

  14. 121 Bethy February 18, 2015 at 18:55

I think red tissues is a marvelous idea! Besides being my favorite color they would match your red nose when you use a lot of them!

    • 122 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:21

That’s true. One wouldn’t have to worry about that sort of thing. You have an awesome favorite color.

  15. 123 Angeline M February 18, 2015 at 18:22

Wow! The first one makes me dizzy and I think it would be fun to get some white-out and cover some of the notes to see what music you’d get. The second one is calmer, but I worry about those pens on the floor, why are they there, and that tissue is way over there if you should need it whilst sitting in the chair working up a sweat playing all those notes.

    • 124 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:21

Very true with regards to the tissue. Isn’t the room very green, though?

Well, if you put white on the page…my job would be easier, and I’d buy you a cake.

  16. 125 icedmocha34 February 18, 2015 at 18:07

It kinda hurts my brain, much like my algebra2 headaches.

    • 126 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:20

Oh no, not algebra2…but I did like that stuff. Just wait till you get into Calc!

      • 127 icedmocha34 February 19, 2015 at 17:53

        Don’t even… *starts retching*

      • 128 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 02:21

        You’ll do fine!

  17. 129 Debbie February 18, 2015 at 16:55

Well, gee, it looks like somebody has a LOT of work to do! You know, I always used to judge how hard a piece would be, based on how much black was on the page — more notes, more difficult. So I think the first selection looks MUCH harder than the second (of course, the second appears to have monotony going for it!)

I also can’t help noticing that you have THREE guitar cases in your practice room, Professor. Well done, sir! I know you can only play one at a time, but no sense not having a backup. It’s like carrying two or three tennis racquets with you to the courts (unless you like restringing them yourself, which I never did!)

As for the “tissue,” well, it looks more like a hanky to me, and I prefer to think you’ve used it for sweaty palms ;)

    • 130 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:19

*laughs* The first puts the hands in the weird positions, but the second is faster, and has two things going at once–if that makes sense.

One is a steel-string…one a nylon, and the other is the “stunt double.” You played tennis? I’m trying. But I stink badly.

It’s for wiping the guitars off!

      • 131 Debbie February 19, 2015 at 00:48

Good for you — keep practicing, tennis is a great game (I’ve played since I was 10 or so!)

Okay, yeah, I seem to remember Domer wiping his guitars down after playing, too. That makes sense. *growls* why didn’t I think of that??

      • 132 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 01:47

You need to teach me! That’s all there is to it, madam.

*laughing lots* You should have asked Mr. Domer first!

  18. 133 desertdweller29 February 18, 2015 at 16:34

Garbaldook. (Unfortunately my mind has exploded.)

    • 134 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:18

Do you need help cleaning it up? I feel responsible, see.

      • 135 desertdweller29 February 19, 2015 at 00:55

That would be nice. You are indeed responsible. I hadn’t expected that from the Professor. I expected some serene seascape or world view of PL. I can even handle the ugly plants you’ve posted before. But not Greek. No, no. My eyes needed a good uncrossing after that!

      • 136 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 01:48

What ugly pants?! *thinks about leaving her gardboobled*

      • 137 desertdweller29 February 20, 2015 at 15:56

Plants! Not pants! You’re pants are extrodinary, remember? Amelia has been chasing you as a result. …Well, I do recall an ugly plant many moons ago. It was ugly and HUGE! But I believe it was a weed… No more leaving me gardboobled! I will not stand for it! *laughs* Moral: We mock what we do not know. (I should have paid attention in music class.)

      • 138 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2015 at 20:11

*laughing lots and lots* I could have sworn you said…you changed it! That’s what happened. Nah…don’t worry about paying attention. You’re a writer, and that’s cooler! You’re right: there was a weed. I must try and find it again.

  19. 139 victoriablake92 February 18, 2015 at 14:54

Makes me think: I wish I could play music! Such a talent to have

    • 140 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:08

Aw…but there’s still time! Would you choose guitar? (You have to say yes.)

      • 141 victoriablake92 February 19, 2015 at 11:30

I tried for a while but I’m musically challenged! Of course guitar though! ..Or possibly piano.

      • 142 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 02:01

I’ll help you! Definitely guitar…it’s just…cooler! Would you do classical guitar?

      • 143 victoriablake92 February 20, 2015 at 10:55

        Yes! Sounds so good!

      • 144 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2015 at 20:08

Let me know if you do it! I’ll help, in any way I can.

  20. 145 Susan P February 18, 2015 at 14:50

    I think of my cello.

    • 146 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:07

The one that the Portuguese killed!

      • 147 Susan P February 19, 2015 at 15:23

Yep, that be the one. Arrrrr

      • 148 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 02:11

        What was his name again?

      • 149 Susan P February 20, 2015 at 23:07

        Ummmm…he was Blackbeards sidekick…

      • 150 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2015 at 20:26

        Johnson?

      • 151 Susan P February 22, 2015 at 00:01

No. That wasn’t it. We need to think harder.

      • 152 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 12:14

Nah, I lose my brain if we do.

      • 153 Susan P February 23, 2015 at 13:15

I doubt it. It seems perfectly well and fine right now.

      • 154 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 21:15

I’m surprised you think it’s fine.

      • 155 Susan P February 23, 2015 at 21:35

Of course it is fine. If one likes being different, of course. Was I wrong?

      • 156 Professor VJ Duke February 24, 2015 at 13:43

Susan is never wrong, you know. It’s just one of those things.

      • 157 Susan P February 24, 2015 at 20:47

Unless I’m not. Right. Sometimes I get on a roll and just keep rolling. Rats and a Heifer, you should get out more!

      • 158 Professor VJ Duke February 25, 2015 at 00:16

        But where should I go?

      • 159 Susan P February 26, 2015 at 01:10

Well, Maybe you should think of the places you should not go and to everywhere else.

      • 160 Professor VJ Duke February 27, 2015 at 12:56

        I’ll got to Portugal.

      • 161 Susan P February 28, 2015 at 01:12

That sounds like a good place to start. Do you have a passport? You probably needed on in California it being a foreign country.

      • 162 Professor VJ Duke February 28, 2015 at 23:59

It was like a foreign country…but no, I haven’t one.

      • 163 Susan P March 1, 2015 at 00:25

You will need one when you go to Portugal.

      • 164 Professor VJ Duke March 2, 2015 at 12:31

        Can’t you smuggle me in?

      • 165 Susan P March 2, 2015 at 18:37

Only if you want a quick trip back to the states.

      • 166 Professor VJ Duke March 2, 2015 at 19:20

Oh, they couldn’t catch the wily professor!

      • 167 Susan P March 2, 2015 at 20:15

I would not bet on that one, sir.

      • 168 Professor VJ Duke March 3, 2015 at 13:07

        *shows his fast moves*

      • 169 Susan P March 3, 2015 at 20:06

        What was that, sir?

      • 170 Professor VJ Duke March 4, 2015 at 13:42

        That’s ninja skill right there.

      • 171 Susan P March 4, 2015 at 13:45

        Hmmm…Did you take classes?

      • 172 Professor VJ Duke March 4, 2015 at 14:08

        Oh no. It comes natural!

      • 173 Susan P March 4, 2015 at 14:26

        Are you stringing me along?

      • 174 Professor VJ Duke March 4, 2015 at 23:41

        I wouldn’t do that!

      • 175 Susan P March 5, 2015 at 00:24

You do it all of the time with everyone. ;)

      • 176 Professor VJ Duke March 5, 2015 at 12:37

Well…well…it’s a gift of mind. *smiles proudly*

      • 177 Susan P March 5, 2015 at 13:29

        Uh-huh. Mr. Trickster.

      • 178 Professor VJ Duke March 5, 2015 at 18:39

Who? *looks behind him* He must’ve left.

      • 179 Susan P March 5, 2015 at 23:23

        Et tu, Professor?

      • 180 Professor VJ Duke March 6, 2015 at 21:33

        Oh, it can’t be me.

      • 181 Susan P March 8, 2015 at 00:01

Amelia said it was. She told me when we were out to lunch.

  21. 182 floridaborne February 18, 2015 at 14:46

I saw very blurry music, not enough to determine which key it was in. Yes, I used to play the piano and was at an advanced level, as long a it was Debussy. :-)

I think green and red tissues would be nice: One for hiding nose bleed and the other for hiding snot .

    • 183 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:07

Debussy is cool! Did you have a fav piece?

Well…there you are then. Plus we’d need a black one.

      • 184 floridaborne February 19, 2015 at 00:33

Yes. It’s been so long ago I can still feel my fingers playing it but I can’t remember the name at the moment. I used to go to a dusty ole bookstore in an ancient building where the floorwas like waves of wood instead of flat. It was a book of piano music printed in 1920. I gave it to my son along with all my music.

      • 185 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 01:46

That’s cool. Good memories. But the floor is a bit disconcerting.

  22. 186 FictionFan February 18, 2015 at 14:44

First Day: I think I’m going to have a migraine.
Day 2: I really must remember to buy ant spray.
Third Day: The aliens have landed!!

    • 187 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:07

*laughs* But that’s the music I’ve chosen for you to learn.

*laughing more* Notes are not ants. They don’t have fangs.

      • 188 FictionFan February 19, 2015 at 17:19

*gulps bravely and gets out kazoo* OK, hum the first note just to get me started…

Ants have fangs?!? Oh dear, I hope they never decide to get their own back on me… *shivers and trembles*

      • 189 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 02:13

*laughs* No, no! You have to learn guitar. I’ll teach you the basics.

Oh yeah. They sure do! Bullet fang ants. Wait…are you an ant-crusher?

      • 190 FictionFan February 20, 2015 at 18:00

*laughs* See, my recorder teacher started out with just that same level of confidence…

*faints* Eurrghh!! Why do you know so much about all these horrible creepy-crawlies?!? I’m an ant sprayer usually… why?

      • 191 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2015 at 20:16

        You must not practice then!

You do kill them! Well, isn’t that murder? Not sure, really, if they have fangs, but you must admit insects are an interest.

      • 192 FictionFan February 22, 2015 at 16:33

*obedient face* OK, I won’t then!

It’s self-defence! Insects are horrid! Except honeybees, obviously…

      • 193 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 12:20

        *laughing* Oh, you’re so wicked!

You must have never disturbed one of their nests!

  23. 194 PorterGirl February 18, 2015 at 14:19

For the first one I think – this looks rather jolly, I could dance to that.
The second one – That bit at the bottom looks noisy! Nice!
The third one – I just want to pick up the pens and electric tuner (I think) and roll around on the carpet. It looks all soft and furry. If I dribble I can wipe it up with the tissue. Also, that chair could do with a cushion. A red one.

    • 195 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:06

Oh no, Lucy, it’s a boring fugue. You’d be screaming in supreme boredom within about a minute.

It definitely is noisy! Now that one you could dance to.

*laughing lots* It is an electric tuner! You’re good. But one of the pens is a file. And carpet is nice and soft, but I must admit I’ve been dropping metal shards on it by accident as of late. *looks guilty* I need a cushion for that horrid chair!

      • 196 PorterGirl February 19, 2015 at 06:03

Maybe a little dance would liven it up? (I tried to play it but I can’t! )
        I like noisy bits.
Metal shards?! Eek! I won’t be rolling on it until they have gone, I am delicate. Use Rommel as a cushion!

      • 197 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 01:59

I think you could be right about that. (Good for you! You’ll get it…if you stay with it. Bach delights in absurd music. *thinks about killing him, but he’s already dead*)

Well, it’s from a dumbbell. *laughs* Okay!

      • 198 PorterGirl February 20, 2015 at 06:08

I am not so very musically gifted but I shall try! I do a stunning version of Three Blind Mice, though. (Dig him up and curse his remains!)
A dumbbell? That makes it acceptable completely. (Poor Romnel! But he does look cozy)

      • 199 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2015 at 20:07

You’re better then you give yourself credit for! (I’ll have too…that’s cool.) That’s what I was thinking. Metal shards…what the heck. Oh well.

  24. 200 InfiniteZip February 18, 2015 at 14:07

Looks like my guitar lesson many many years ago, and the pages, my piano lessons…many many years ago….no red tissues….how about golden?

    • 201 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:05

Zippy, you must take up guitar again. What say you? Golden is perfect!

      • 202 InfiniteZip February 19, 2015 at 17:23

The old fifty year old Gibson with ivory inlay or my goofy forest green one?

      • 203 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 02:14

Both! Do you have a fifty year old gibson? *eyes of unsure-ness*

      • 204 InfiniteZip February 20, 2015 at 10:10

A wedding gift to my mother from my father….brother plays it so he has it at his house…but I could play if I wanted…guitar lessons made my fingers bleed..not fun.

      • 205 Professor VJ Duke February 21, 2015 at 20:08

You have to just work up callouses is all. I thought I had them! Till I really started practicing for a competition. Now I really do have them!

      • 206 InfiniteZip February 22, 2015 at 12:56

Are you any good? What music do you play?🎸

      • 207 Professor VJ Duke February 23, 2015 at 12:18

Lots of classical guitar music. Can get tiring, but I love it. I’m okay, I’d say.

  25. 208 L. Marie February 18, 2015 at 13:46

The first I think of is someone composing music or changing the key of something already composed. And then I think about the need to eat chocolate.

    • 209 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:04

I love how your mind works! The need for something sweet is something I go through a lot down in that room.

  26. 210 walt walker February 18, 2015 at 13:26

The first thing I thought of was the Emperor in Amadueus saying “too many notes.”

In the second one it looks like too many of one note for most of it, then an earthquake hit at the end. But I trust that Johannes knows what he’s doing.

    • 211 Alastair Savage February 18, 2015 at 13:58

They’re before and after pictures, aren’t they? The first is a miserable mess of scribbles, and the second is the neater, edited version. Music works like that. I know these things. I learned the recorder at school. Although my music teacher moved me on to the xylophone because I was so poor…

      • 212 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:04

Well…but…isn’t the xylophone harder to play than the recorder? This must be so.

      • 213 Alastair Savage February 19, 2015 at 07:48

It has the letters and things written on the keys so you don’t have to learn any of those squiggly tadpole things to play it.

      • 214 Professor VJ Duke February 20, 2015 at 02:00

Now, Mr. Savage…that’s cheating and you know it!

    • 215 Professor VJ Duke February 19, 2015 at 00:03

*laughs* Well, that second one, Mr. Walt…I must take full responsibility for it. That earthquake was my idea. *smiles proudly*
