Professorish Bookshelves

So, the professor has been doing some organizing. This is the result:

DSC01015

Now, this shelf contains Tassie (on the way left; a gift from my great friend Jennifer who lives in Australia), and that bear. It also has some of the first music writings I ever did. The weed is very important.

DSC01016

The top shelf here contains professorish study books. The shelf right below that shelf is full of favorite professorish fiction books.

DSC01017

These next two shelves are devoted to music books–in their entirety. First up, are professorish arrangements books. Next up, loads of…I suppose other music books.

DSC01018

Lastly and probably leastly, are more music books. Oboe stuff on the left, clarinet stuff on the right.

DSC01019

What an organizer the professor is–the sudden.

The sudden – so much information about the professor lately. I feel the need to pay better attention!

    • 2 Professor VJ Duke April 3, 2015 at 12:57

*laughing* I”m an open book now, huh?

      • 3 Me, Myself and DIY April 4, 2015 at 12:45

        Not quite. HA.

      • 4 Professor VJ Duke April 4, 2015 at 22:40

        Am so, dadblameit!

  2. 5 Jennifer April 1, 2015 at 23:52

Hey! Tassie looks really good up there, taking charge I hope, and keeping that bear in order. Where is Tiges…not gone MIA already?
You know they’re extinct here and you have what may well be the very last one ever..

    • 6 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 13:05

Jennifer! Isn’t he tops up there? He’s my favorite ever.

The last one? How cool. Tiges…actually sits right above my computer. Would you like a picture?

      • 7 Jennifer April 2, 2015 at 13:07

Yes please. And thanks for such kind words.

      • 8 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 13:08

I’ll get you one here… (I’m so happy to have them!!!)

      • 9 Jennifer April 2, 2015 at 13:10

Ooh ~happy dance~!! Was my pleasure to send them, knowing how much you love them.

      • 10 Professor VJ Duke April 3, 2015 at 12:46

Love them to death! Both of them. (And the postcards!)

  3. 11 Julie Harris April 1, 2015 at 19:05

Stupendous job, professor! I’m afraid I am seriously lacking the skill of organization. Whenever I try, it ends up looking worse than it did when I started!!

    • 12 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 12:48

*laughing* It can be tough for sure. And it’s only so important, so don’t worry about it too muchly much.

  4. 13 Nancy Loderick April 1, 2015 at 19:04

    Hi Professor,

I must say I am impressed by your organization! I thought all professors were rather absent-minded and disorganized.

I can just imagine what the “before” pictures looked like. :)

    Nancy

    • 14 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 12:47

*laughs* Nah, I’m somewhat organized to be honest. It’s in the professorish blood, see.

  5. 15 Jackie April 1, 2015 at 18:00

Well done on organizing, Professor! I love to organize – it makes things so much easier to find.

    • 16 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:44

Doesn’t it, though? Plus…it makes a professor look good, you know.

      • 17 Jackie April 2, 2015 at 12:51

        Oh absolutely! I agree 100%.

      • 18 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 13:07

        *laughing* Thanks bunches!

  6. 19 Simply Skeptical April 1, 2015 at 17:31

I always feel good when I organize my organized. Can’t do enough of this. So you didn’t mention much about “the bear”. Do you think the devil minds sharing a shelf with him?

    • 20 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:44

I think they keep each other warm, wouldn’t you say?

  7. 21 desertdweller29 April 1, 2015 at 15:47

So that is Tassie, eh, Professor? What a cuddly little devil. I spent a lot of time looking for a weed in there until L. Marie cleared that up. I know you often have weeds growing in your yard. I thought they might have overrun the place! Must you make me feel guilty for not tackling my spring cleaning yet?

    • 22 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:38

That is Tassie! Did you know he has fangs that a very sharp? (But not sharper than the katana.) I do have weeds all the time. But isn’t it a weed?

*laughs* I’m sorry, but get to work, madam!

      • 23 desertdweller29 April 1, 2015 at 22:57

Hah! Indeed… I must get back to work. I’m prone to distractions when I’m writing. It’s terrible! I need a Tassie to growl at me to get to work. One that eats scorpions too.

      • 24 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 13:04

Ooo! How cool. And maybe even nip at your feet.

  8. 25 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 1, 2015 at 15:38

Now, Duke, those books are too small. I cannot read the titles. Hand me your glasses, please. Still no better… I can’t believe you cleaned and organized. How unlike you… *laughs* I need more info, I think. Nice Tassie..

    • 26 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:36

Unlike me?! *laughing* I fear I’m a very ordered person. I take after Mr. Magi that way, see. What titles are you curious about? *prepares to read them to Audith* More info?

(Debbie found something I thought is cute: Tassie.)

      • 27 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 1, 2015 at 21:42

*belly laughs* How long did that little bookcase take you, Duke? All day? What was the hardest part? I suppose where to put your fiction. All my important stuff goes at eye level, so I can keep a close eye on it. *giggles at her joke* Tis true. I like when you compare yourself to Magi. *raises her eyebrows and wiggles them* What titles? I cannot read any of them, so how, prey tell do I tell you which ones. *wiggles her nose*

(Yay, Debbie. Makes sense to think a Tassie gift, from a good friend named Jennifer, as cute. Australians are cute.)

      • 28 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 13:02

Well…maybe it did take all day, dadblameit! The hardest part…bringing the shelf in. *laughs* Well…how about the ones all the way on the left? All Mark Twain, see.

(I love my Tassie, you know.)

      • 29 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 2, 2015 at 19:45

Well the shelf looks nice and I do hope it keeps you better organized. Yes, I see those Twain books. Nice. (As you should!)

      • 30 Professor VJ Duke April 3, 2015 at 12:56

It will. I had all my books outside my office. So, this is an improvement, mind you.

      • 31 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 3, 2015 at 13:51

It’ll be nice having them all centrally located. Spring cleaning can be quite therapeutic. I think the shelves look great all kidding aside. Well done.

      • 32 Professor VJ Duke April 4, 2015 at 22:27

Many thanks, Audith. *looks at it proudly* It’s definitely professorish.

      • 33 Audrey Dawn - Oldest Daughter Redheaded Sister April 6, 2015 at 04:08

        *nods*

  9. 34 Debbie April 1, 2015 at 14:28

Ah, nothing like a good Spring cleaning to make a person feel all organized and tidy! ‘Tis my nature to do this sort of thing on a regular basis — out with the old, in with the new. Looks MUCH better, don’t you think?!

So that’s the famous Tassie! What a cutie — so much better looking than that hideous thing pictured on Google!! Mr. Bear shouldn’t turn his back on a new friend, though (especially one that could easily take his leg off if provoked, ha!!)

Lots of professorish books there, Professor. Either someone has a lot of work yet to do, or someone is finished with that work and moving on to other work. By the way, how’s the practicing coming?? Oh, and what’s that little white square thingy on your second shelf from the top? That’s an interest the sudden!!

    • 35 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:35

Yes, MUCH better is exactly right! What’s Dallas think of spring organizing?

*laughing* Well, Tassie might certainly try to do that! He is a cutie, I admit. There. You found something I think is cute. (I was just telling Audrey that there was nothing I thought was cute.)

I think I’ve read most of them… *scratches head* Great! Thanks for asking. I’ve been at it. And the pieces are all coming together nicely. *a bit nervous* You know, I think that square thing is, in fact, a video cassette. See how old I am?

      • 36 Debbie April 1, 2015 at 18:45

Dallas NEVER organizes — even his toy box is a disaster!

Looking closer at Tassie, I like his toofies! Good thing he’s on the highest shelf, or your two German beasts might think he’s a toy!

I thought the square thingy was a clock. Perhaps your explanation is better. *growls* I do like the sign on your top shelf and the “weed” looks like a Palm Sunday branch to me.

    • 37 Jennifer April 1, 2015 at 23:56

Nooo, not hideous at all..but definitely be wary, he will take more than your leg if you dont keep a keen eye out.

      • 38 Debbie April 2, 2015 at 00:40

Tassie the toy is cute; the photos of the real Devils are scary! They didn’t call them “devils” for nothing, I imagine! By the way, nice to meet you, Jennifer!

      • 39 Jennifer April 2, 2015 at 00:44

Oh, you should hear them when they’re feeding, or fighting..very gruesome. But still totally cute. And pleased to meet you too Debbie :-)

      • 40 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 13:06

        They’re awesome! Just because!

      • 41 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 13:05

Haha…that’s what we love about him…

  10. 42 L. Marie April 1, 2015 at 14:15

Lovely. And how nice that some stuffed friends preside over your neat shelves. My bookshelves are collapsing, so you wouldn’t want to see photos of them.

It seems you need to clarify the weed/reed aspect. :-)
(I see you have the Matthew Henry Study Bible. I have the Matthew Henry Commentary.)

    • 43 desertdweller29 April 1, 2015 at 15:43

Ah, weed/reed! I was completely garbadoodled by that one.

    • 44 Susan P April 1, 2015 at 16:07

I have that commentary as well. Mine belonged to my grandfather.

      • 45 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:38

That’s very special. Do you like it, Susan?

      • 46 Susan P April 1, 2015 at 21:52

I do like it, actually. That was a job of work writing that.

      • 47 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 13:04

        I know! They’re huge volumes.

      • 48 Susan P April 2, 2015 at 13:14

And I need a magnifying glass. Have you seen mine?

      • 49 Professor VJ Duke April 3, 2015 at 12:49

I have not, madam! Are they small?

      • 50 Susan P April 3, 2015 at 22:04

The print is small. Very small. Teenie. Small.

      • 51 Professor VJ Duke April 4, 2015 at 22:36

        Goodness. Well, that’s nice.

      • 52 Susan P April 5, 2015 at 00:46

Apparently he had a lot to say. It’s an interest how someone can write so much in one lifetime. How many words have you written in your oh-so-long life?

      • 53 Professor VJ Duke April 6, 2015 at 20:41

        Probably five million?

      • 54 Susan P April 6, 2015 at 21:22

hard to say, but he wrote a lot.

      • 55 Professor VJ Duke April 7, 2015 at 17:22

        He was quite prolific.

      • 56 Susan P April 7, 2015 at 17:55

        Didn’t I just say that?

      • 57 Professor VJ Duke April 8, 2015 at 12:13

I was talking about the professor!

      • 58 Susan P April 8, 2015 at 13:24

I’ve got my eye on you, Professor. You are a slippery one you are.

      • 59 Professor VJ Duke April 9, 2015 at 11:59

        Aren’t I? I’m so rotten, too.

      • 60 Susan P April 9, 2015 at 16:28

Not that I know of. Why?

      • 61 Professor VJ Duke April 9, 2015 at 20:21

Well, that’s what Bethy tells me.

      • 62 Susan P April 9, 2015 at 22:58

She does not either. Good grief. What made you say something that can’t possibly be so?

      • 63 Professor VJ Duke April 12, 2015 at 22:30

That’s what she said she said, I think.

      • 64 Susan P April 12, 2015 at 23:15

        Ai caramba!

    • 65 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:33

*laughing* I just had to throw out a shelf that was collapsing. They do that, dadblame bookshelves! I would be curious though…

Well, it’s definitely a weed…wouldn’t you say? (Oh! Nice. Do you like them? I was thinking about getting them.)

      • 66 L. Marie April 1, 2015 at 21:04

I recommend the commentary if you can find it.

      • 67 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 12:56

*nods* Okay…I’ll see what I can do.

  11. 68 FictionFan April 1, 2015 at 14:14

I’m so excited to see so many empty spaces on these shelves! I’ve done a rough calculation and I reckon you should be able to fit at least another 50 novels on there… I am drawing up a list! Tassie’s awfully sweet – no wonder the bear’s looking a bit huffy…

    • 69 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:32

Empty? Why…it’s jam packed with things! Just look. Not a single place. *hurriedly fills it up* Did you notice all the FEF books on there?

Isn’t Tassie something? I wanted to call him Devil, though.

      • 70 FictionFan April 1, 2015 at 20:30

Too late!! Plenty of room for more! I was proud to see The Martian and Dune on there, but it gets awfully fuzzy when zoomed so I can’t read lots of the titles *sad face* Do I see Kidnapped? Did you like it? It’s on my TBR – I’m ashamed to say I’ve never read it.

He is! Very wicked looking. I hope he doesn’t come alive at night… *fears for the Professor*

      • 71 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 12:52

It is kidnapped! And I liked it a bit. Probably something you’d like more than this professor. And, of course, a whole bunch of Twain there…

He might, but I’ll beat his behind if he gets vicious! See, isn’t that what the weeds for?

      • 72 FictionFan April 2, 2015 at 16:08

Oh – that doesn’t sound like a ringing endorsement. I thought I’d tactfully not mention Twain…

But he might sneak up on you while you’re asleep! Hopefully Kody will protect you…

      • 73 Professor VJ Duke April 3, 2015 at 12:50

It’s not. Coolest thing is the fellows blunderbuss in the beginning! *laughing* You’ll hate him forever now…

I bet Kody would. Plus, my katana is within reaching distance. Isn’t that cool?

      • 74 FictionFan April 3, 2015 at 16:11

Oh dear! I think I’ve started it before and given up – which doesn’t sound good either. *nods* I think I will…

Just make sure you don’t accidentally behead Kody! *gasps and then sobs* Ooh, I wish I hadn’t said that!

      • 75 Professor VJ Duke April 4, 2015 at 22:30

Aha! See…it’s that old English stuff…hard to read at times. But the blunderbuss…

I wouldn’t do that! *looks at him* I think he is mad you suggested it.

      • 76 FictionFan April 6, 2015 at 15:50

Blunderbusses are fun – it’s a shame they’ve gone out of fashion. I wonder why they’re called that…

Please offer him my sincere apologies! And a tummy tickle…

      • 77 Professor VJ Duke April 6, 2015 at 20:52

They are… You’re getting close to letting me have my 1911!

        I never tummy tickle him!

      • 78 FictionFan April 7, 2015 at 15:32

It’s too old-fashioned for you – you need something modern, like a laser-gun…

Awwww! Poor, poor Kody! What a terrible sad life! Oh, give him one tummy tickle, please… I can’t bear it! *sobs brokenly*

      • 79 Professor VJ Duke April 7, 2015 at 17:34

*nods* I see the sense in that. But I’m old-fashioned remember. You forgot about that.

I’m not even sure how to go about it…

      • 80 FictionFan April 7, 2015 at 21:57

Yes, my memory’s failing because I’m not a woman of today. *throws out wrinkle cream*

Oh, just roll him on his back and tickle!! How hard can it be?? If you don’t get a move on, I shall have to come over there and do it myself – I can’t bear the thought of him all tickleless!

      • 81 Professor VJ Duke April 8, 2015 at 12:25

*laughs* I’m not a man of today either! You’re in bad company, see.

Will not! He’ll shred me with his claws.

      • 82 FictionFan April 8, 2015 at 21:10

        True! You are timeless!

Wuss! Just get the job done! Wear gauntlets…

      • 83 Professor VJ Duke April 9, 2015 at 12:11

A gauntlet! I’d like to wear one, I think. I”ll send him to you for the tickling. How about that?

      • 84 FictionFan April 9, 2015 at 17:04

I shall send him virtual tickles… *concentrates hard*

      • 85 Professor VJ Duke April 9, 2015 at 20:25

        *laughs* It’s working. He’s squealing.

      • 86 FictionFan April 10, 2015 at 14:28

        *laughs* Good!

      • 87 Professor VJ Duke April 12, 2015 at 22:41

I must needs shut him up.

      • 88 FictionFan April 13, 2015 at 16:01

        *fears for Kody*

  12. 89 John W. Howell April 1, 2015 at 12:42

Very nice. I love the recycled briefcase on the chair to the right.

    • 90 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:32

      You mean the brown one?

      • 91 John W. Howell April 1, 2015 at 20:28

I prefer to call it Earthtone.

      • 92 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 12:50

*laughs* You’re so right. Earthtone. Much better.

      • 93 John W. Howell April 2, 2015 at 13:02

        Where is the handle?

      • 94 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 13:08

I think Tassie bit it off, would you believe it.

      • 95 John W. Howell April 2, 2015 at 20:55

Nice piece of natural twine can work.

      • 96 Professor VJ Duke April 3, 2015 at 12:56

You’re quite right. I should get some and have at it.

      • 97 John W. Howell April 3, 2015 at 22:45

You could also put a Gucci logo on it.

      • 98 Professor VJ Duke April 4, 2015 at 22:37

        It is a nice logo?

      • 99 John W. Howell April 5, 2015 at 00:57

        It is pretty nice

      • 100 Professor VJ Duke April 6, 2015 at 20:44

        *bows*

  13. 101 erinkenobi2893 April 1, 2015 at 12:31

It looks very organized. (I’m working on organizing my magazines so I can fit everything on my shelves.)

    • 102 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:31

Let me know how it goes. Took me some time. Do you have hundreds of magazines?

      • 103 erinkenobi2893 April 2, 2015 at 16:27

Maybe not hundreds, but certainly dozens. :-P

      • 104 Professor VJ Duke April 3, 2015 at 12:55

Yeah, magazines tend to build up.

      • 105 erinkenobi2893 April 3, 2015 at 13:16

        They do indeed!

  14. 106 masgautsen April 1, 2015 at 12:13

Very organized of you! Looking neat and good now. But where are the before photos?

    • 107 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:31

Ohhhhhhhhh…but you’d be horrified to see those!

  15. 108 PorterGirl April 1, 2015 at 12:05

Very neat and tidy! And what a delight to see Tassie. But wait – ‘the weed is very important’ – I mean, what sort of weed are we talking about here, dear Professor?!

    • 109 walt walker April 1, 2015 at 12:13

Yes, I’ve questions regarding the weed myself. It’s an interest.

      • 110 PorterGirl April 1, 2015 at 12:14

I am not one to judge, of course, but it just seemed a little… unlikely, in the Professor’s case.

      • 111 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:31

*laughing lots and lots and lots* Someone’s very wicked the sudden.

      • 112 PorterGirl April 1, 2015 at 20:24

A wicked someone? Not possibly me *laughing lots*

      • 113 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 12:49

*laughs* Of course not…but then again…!

      • 114 PorterGirl April 2, 2015 at 13:14

*winks* I am a good and wicked girl, after all.

      • 115 Professor VJ Duke April 3, 2015 at 12:48

You’re the only one, too. Two seemingly contradicting things…you make it work!

      • 116 PorterGirl April 6, 2015 at 08:40

I thank you so much! *is proud*

      • 117 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:30

Well, Mr. Walt, I do sorta forget where I go it. Maybe it’s like a punishing stick?

    • 118 Bethy April 1, 2015 at 12:42

It’s for the clarinet of course!

      • 119 PorterGirl April 1, 2015 at 13:20

Oh! I thought that was a reed, like a saxophone. My mistake. Thank you, Bethy!

    • 120 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:30

Thank you, Lucy! Yes, isn’t Tassie something? He’s got fangs! *impressed with the fangs*

Oh, the weed… *laughing* Well…umm…any guesses?

      • 121 PorterGirl April 1, 2015 at 20:24

Fangs! I am also impressed, mightily so. I have been told that the weed is for the clarinet… so that must be it!

      • 122 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 12:49

Well…but isn’t it a bit too big for that?

      • 123 PorterGirl April 2, 2015 at 13:14

It is rather on the large side. Maybe you have a giant one, hidden away somewhere *laughs* Is the weed for poking people with?

      • 124 Professor VJ Duke April 3, 2015 at 12:47

I have done that! I forget where it came from. Maybe a palm branch? But I thought it would look nice in the collection.

      • 125 PorterGirl April 6, 2015 at 08:39

It is a marvellous thing, certainly!

      • 126 walt walker April 2, 2015 at 00:26

I’m very confused, but here is what I know. “Reed” is for the banks of streams, or for wind instruments. “Weed” is for gardens (or rather not for them),or for hippies. I still require clarity regarding what exactly is on the bookcase.

      • 127 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 13:06

Well…what that Colonel Mustard carry from the Clue board game?

  16. 128 Princess Kick-ass April 1, 2015 at 11:52

The professor is indeed a great organizer!

    • 129 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:29

      *smiles proudly* Isn’t it something?

  17. 130 Bethy April 1, 2015 at 11:48

    Organizing is my favourite!

    • 131 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:29

Hey, Bethy! I know you probably love that. Though I’m guessing the Princess might not.

      • 132 Bethy April 1, 2015 at 20:29

Oh the Princess loves it even more then I do. She is not allowed to organize my kitchen!!!!

      • 133 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 12:50

Does she really? *laughing* Does she try to do that at times?

      • 134 Bethy April 2, 2015 at 13:59

Oh yes she does. I think she’s my mini me–she would love to be exactly like me (scary thought really) and therefore imitates every little thing I do. Only when she organizes stuff I can’t find a thing and she can’t remember what she did with it usually.

      • 135 Professor VJ Duke April 3, 2015 at 12:49

*laughing lots and lots* That’s a good thing! Except she can’t remember. Now that’s a vexing problem. I bet she’ll remember in time. Maybe she hasn’t quite caught that organizing doesn’t mean rearranging things for just fun’s sake!

      • 136 Bethy April 7, 2015 at 13:16

I bet that’s it. We’re trying to pair down what we own also so that will help with that problem too!

      • 137 Professor VJ Duke April 7, 2015 at 17:29

*nods and laughs* I’m sure that’s it.

  18. 138 Susan P April 1, 2015 at 11:47

The sudden indeed. I usually start in the sudden and lose momentum somewhere along the way. Maybe you can help me…

    • 139 Professor VJ Duke April 1, 2015 at 18:29

*laughing* That’s a common problem. Well, when you lose momentum do you sit down, take a break, eat a snack, cut the grass, or pet George?

      • 140 Susan P April 1, 2015 at 21:51

I do sit down, take a break, eat a snack and wuzzle George. He purrs which keeps me there longer. Of course, my job is mostly sitting in a chair.

      • 141 Professor VJ Duke April 2, 2015 at 13:03

Wuzzle! That’s an interest of a word. Does George still play soccer?

      • 142 Susan P April 2, 2015 at 13:14

Currently, he is practicing for spring field and track meets. He is a sprinter. Can you picture that? Sometimes I only see him before he starts and after he stops.

      • 143 Professor VJ Duke April 3, 2015 at 12:47

I can! Bet he’s faster than a mole and a mouse.

      • 144 Susan P April 3, 2015 at 22:06

I’ve never put in a competition. Should I put him in one?

      • 145 Professor VJ Duke April 4, 2015 at 22:36

I think you should. He’d win gold.

      • 146 Susan P April 5, 2015 at 00:44

What if someone gave him some of his favorite food halfway down the race?

      • 147 Professor VJ Duke April 6, 2015 at 20:40

He’d quit faster than a turkey.

      • 148 Susan P April 6, 2015 at 21:23

He might. Sometimes he turns his nose up when I feed him just to let me know who is boss.

      • 149 Professor VJ Duke April 7, 2015 at 17:22

        What a…little bugger!

      • 150 Susan P April 7, 2015 at 17:56

Yes, well…a cat is a cat for all that.
